Gabriela (1983 film)

Gabriela is a 1983 Brazilian romance film directed by Bruno Barreto. It was shot in the cities of Paraty, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, and in Garopaba, Santa Catarina.

Plot

It is 1925. Nacib (Mastroianni) is the owner of bar in a small town. He meets Gabriela (Braga), a sensual girl, who he is immediately attracted to. Taken by her, he hires her on as a cook. However, Nacib soon grows annoyed by the attention she receives. He proposes to her in the hopes that the attention quells.

After their marriage, he insists that she dress and behave more prudishly so that men are not so enamored of her. Unfortunately, Gabriela cannot help but stray and Nacib is forced to annul the marriage when he finds her in bed with his friend Tonico (Cantafora). Later, as both Nacib and the town begin to undergo a transformation, Nacib takes in Gabriela as his mistress.

Gabriela (1950 film)

Gabriela is a 1950 West German musical drama film directed by Géza von Cziffra and starring Zarah Leander, Carl Raddatz and Vera Molnar. It was Leander's comeback film after a seven-year absence from filmmaking . In 1943 when the Nazi leadership had demanded she take German citizenship, she had broken her contract with UFA and returned to her native Sweden. In the immediate post-war era she was banned from appearing in German films because of her previous association with the Nazi hierarchy. From 1949 this was relaxed, and she was able to make films once more.

It was the third highest-grossing film at the West German box office in 1950.

León is the second largest city in Nicaragua, after Managua. It was founded by the Spanish as Santiago de los Caballeros de León and rivals Granada, Nicaragua, in the number of historic Spanish colonial churches, secular buildings, and private residences. As of 2012, the city had an estimated population of 201,100. which increases sharply during university season with many students coming from other regions of Nicaragua. León is located along the Río Chiquito, some 90 kilometres (56 miles) northwest of Managua, and some 18 km (11 miles) east of the Pacific Ocean coast. León has long been the political and intellectual center of the nation and its National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN) was founded in 1813, making it the second oldest university in Central America. León is also an important industrial, agricultural, and commercial center for Nicaragua, exporting sugar cane, cattle, peanut, plantain, and sorghum. The city has been home to many of Nicaragua's most noteworthy poets including Rubén Darío, Alfonso Cortés and Salomón de la Selva.

León, Guanajuato

León (Spanish pronunciation: [leˈon]) is a city and municipality in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. It is part of the macroregion of Bajío within the Central Mexican Plateau. It has a strong leather industry, offering shoes, boots, belts, jackets, and other leather accessories both to national and international markets.

In the 2015 preliminary census the National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Data Processing (INEGI) reported 1,578,626 people living in the municipality of León, and 1,887,703 in the metropolitan area of León making it the seventh most populous metropolitan area in Mexico. Although not the capital of the State, is considered the "Capital" for Social, Commercial and Government services. The municipality, of which Leon city is only a part, rose to 4th most populous nationwide.

Its first-class services and hotel industry make it one of the most important centers in Mexico with numerous opportunities for entertainment, gastronomy, leisure activities, arts and recreation. It is also considered one of the most environmentally friendly cities in Mexico and has a high number of cyclists, in part because of the integration a network of bike lanes into the SIT system.

León, Spain

León (/leɪˈɒn, -ˈoʊn/; Spanish: León [leˈon]; Leonese: Llión [ʎiˈoŋ]) is the capital of the province of León, located in the northwest of Spain. Its city population of 131,680 (2012) makes it the largest municipality in the province, accounting for more than one quarter of the province's population. Including the metropolitan area, the population is estimated at 494,451 (2012).

Founded as the Roman military encampment of the Legio VI Victrix around 29 BC, its standing as an encampment city was consolidated with the definitive settlement of the Legio VII Gemina from 74 AD. Following its partial depopulation due to the Umayyad conquest of the peninsula, León was revived by its incorporation into the Kingdom of Asturias. 910 saw the beginning of one its most prominent historical periods, when it became the capital of the Kingdom of León, which took active part in the Reconquista against the Moors, and came to be one of the fundamental kingdoms of medieval Spain. In 1188, the city hosted the first Parliament in European history under the reign of Alfonso IX, due to which it was named in 2010, by the professor John Keane, the King of Spain and the Junta of Castile and León, as the cradle of Parliamentarism, and the Decreta of León were included in the Memory of the World register by UNESCO in 2013. The city's prominence began to decline in the early Middle Ages, partly due to the loss of independence after the union of the Leonese kingdom with the Crown of Castile, consolidated in 1301.
