Games discussed in depth this month include:
LORDS OF HELLAS
New to the list is a game that, admittedly, wasn’t on my radar until I learned about the twist it puts on its theme: Lords of Hellas. Lords of Hellas is set in the Dark Ages, where ancient Greece is ruled by mighty gods. But instead of supernatural abilities, these gods gain their powers by wielding advanced technology. In the game, players will control heroes with various, asymmetric abilities. Victory can be achieved through several different strategies as well. Players will need to place and use their armies wisely, while they and their hero also deal with random events, which will require the players to join together in either a vote or taking action. The end of the game is triggered when one of a variety of victory conditions is met, as opposed to tracking points. The game’s seemingly original twists on theme and gameplay make this one that I’m personally keeping an eye on. Are others out there doing the same? Well, we’ll see in the months to come if Lords Of Hellas stays on the countdown or fades into obscurity like an ancient myth.
THIS WAR OF MINE: THE BOARD GAME
Historically, board games based on video games can be very tricky to pull off successfully. Slot number eight goes to This War of Mine: The Board Game, the tabletop adaptation of the award-winning video game that tells the tale of a group of survivors trapped within the confines of a conflict-ridden city, enduring hardships that often test the essence of their very humanity. While the developers of the board game state that it is designed to retain much of the feel and struggle of the video game - improving their environment by day and protecting it by night - they say that the board game significantly broadens the video game’s universe by adding the element of an overall, unveiling plot, while keeping its main focus on the interpersonal interactions that will need to be balanced between each individual’s survival instinct and group decision-making. The designers are hoping to produce an “instant play” game, with no need for reading the manual before starting the adventure. It will be interesting to see how that develops.
SWORD & SORCERY
And rounding out this month’s Top 10 in spot number ten is the dice-rolling dungeon crawler, Sword & Sorcery. The publisher says that Sword & Sorcery is an epic-fantasy cooperative board game in which 1-5 players fight together against the forces of evil, which are controlled by the game system itself. Each player controls one or more heroes – legendary characters brought back to life by powerful sorcery. Weakened by the resurrection, they grow stronger during their story-driven quests. By acquiring soul points during battles, the heroes' souls regenerate, restoring their legendary status with multiple powers, magic and soul weapons, and powerful artifacts. This game seems to be getting some traction due to several factors: it’s a dungeon crawl with an estimated 60-90 minute play time, the AI system that’s been designed to control the monsters (allowing all the players to take part in the adventure), the level of character customization, and an emphasis on its artwork and minis. Will all of these factors result in longevity for the game, or will it vanish as quickly as it appeared on people’s radar?

Board game
A board game is a tabletop game that involves counters or pieces moved or placed on a pre-marked surface or "board", according to a set of rules. Games can be based on pure strategy, chance (e.g., rolling dice), or a mixture of the two, and usually have a goal that a player aims to achieve. Early board games represented a battle between two armies, and most modern board games are still based on defeating opposing players in terms of counters, winning position, or accrual of points (often expressed as in-game currency).
There are many varieties of board games. Their representation of real-life situations can range from having no inherent theme (e.g., checkers), to having a specific theme and narrative (e.g., Cluedo). Rules can range from the very simple (e.g., Tic-tac-toe), to those describing a game universe in great detail (e.g., Dungeons & Dragons) – although most of the latter are role-playing games where the board is secondary to the game, serving to help visualize the game scenario.

Pair Of Dice Paradise
Pair Of Dice Paradise is the name of the video podcast and web series that focuses on board game products and culture. The series was created by Chaz Marler, and most episodes feature a variety of different characters played by Chaz and his daughter, VeeBug.
Episodes cover a variety of topics, including product reviews, tips for building a board gaming group, and the challenges of gaming while struggling with social anxiety.
Characters
During the course of the series, Chaz has appeared as several different characters, each with their own distinct personality and costume. The first costumed persona to appear onscreen was Professor Riley Naught, M.E., in episode 6, Napoleon Dynamite: It's Pretty Much My Favorite Animal Game. Chaz added the professor to the episode at the last minute after a scheduling conflict prevented his previously scheduled guest from appearing in the episode.

Game
A game is structured form of play, usually undertaken for enjoyment and sometimes used as an educational tool. Games are distinct from work, which is usually carried out for remuneration, and from art, which is more often an expression of aesthetic or ideological elements. However, the distinction is not clear-cut, and many games are also considered to be work (such as professional players of spectator sports or games) or art (such as jigsaw puzzles or games involving an artistic layout such as Mahjong, solitaire, or some video games).
Key components of games are goals, rules, challenge, and interaction. Games generally involve mental or physical stimulation, and often both. Many games help develop practical skills, serve as a form of exercise, or otherwise perform an educational, simulational, or psychological role.

Games discussed in depth this month include:
LORDS OF HELLAS
New to the list is a game that, admittedly, wasn’t on my radar until I learned about the twist it puts on its theme: Lords of Hellas. Lords of Hellas is set in the Dark Ages, where ancient Greece is ruled by mighty gods. But instead of supernatural abilities, these gods gain their powers by wielding advanced technology. In the game, players will control heroes with various, asymmetric abilities. Victory can be achieved through several different strategies as well. Players will need to place and use their armies wisely, while they and their hero also deal with random events, which will require the players to join together in either a vote or taking action. The end of the game is triggered when one of a variety of victory conditions is met, as opposed to tracking points. The game’s seemingly original twists on theme and gameplay make this one that I’m personally keeping an eye on. Are others out there doing the same? Well, we’ll see in the months to come if Lords Of Hellas stays on the countdown or fades into obscurity like an ancient myth.
THIS WAR OF MINE: THE BOARD GAME
Historically, board games based on video games can be very tricky to pull off successfully. Slot number eight goes to This War of Mine: The Board Game, the tabletop adaptation of the award-winning video game that tells the tale of a group of survivors trapped within the confines of a conflict-ridden city, enduring hardships that often test the essence of their very humanity. While the developers of the board game state that it is designed to retain much of the feel and struggle of the video game - improving their environment by day and protecting it by night - they say that the board game significantly broadens the video game’s universe by adding the element of an overall, unveiling plot, while keeping its main focus on the interpersonal interactions that will need to be balanced between each individual’s survival instinct and group decision-making. The designers are hoping to produce an “instant play” game, with no need for reading the manual before starting the adventure. It will be interesting to see how that develops.
SWORD & SORCERY
And rounding out this month’s Top 10 in spot number ten is the dice-rolling dungeon crawler, Sword & Sorcery. The publisher says that Sword & Sorcery is an epic-fantasy cooperative board game in which 1-5 players fight together against the forces of evil, which are controlled by the game system itself. Each player controls one or more heroes – legendary characters brought back to life by powerful sorcery. Weakened by the resurrection, they grow stronger during their story-driven quests. By acquiring soul points during battles, the heroes' souls regenerate, restoring their legendary status with multiple powers, magic and soul weapons, and powerful artifacts. This game seems to be getting some traction due to several factors: it’s a dungeon crawl with an estimated 60-90 minute play time, the AI system that’s been designed to control the monsters (allowing all the players to take part in the adventure), the level of character customization, and an emphasis on its artwork and minis. Will all of these factors result in longevity for the game, or will it vanish as quickly as it appeared on people’s radar?

Games discussed in depth this month include:
LORDS OF HELLAS
New to the list is a game that, admittedly, wasn’t on my radar until I learned about the twist it puts on its theme: Lords of Hellas. Lords of Hellas is set in the Dark Ages, where ancient Greece is ruled by mighty gods. But instead of supernatural abilities, these gods gain their powers by wielding advanced technology. In the game, players will control heroes with various, asymmetric abilities. Victory can be achieved through several different strategies as well. Players will need to place and use their armies wisely, while they and their hero also deal with random events, which will require the players to join together in either a vote or taking action. The end of the game is triggered when one of a variety of victory conditions is met, as opposed to tracking points. The game’s seemingly original twists on theme and gameplay make this one that I’m personally keeping an eye on. Are others out there doing the same? Well, we’ll see in the months to come if Lords Of Hellas stays on the countdown or fades into obscurity like an ancient myth.
THIS WAR OF MINE: THE BOARD GAME
Historically, board games based on video games can be very tricky to pull off successfully. Slot number eight goes to This War of Mine: The Board Game, the tabletop adaptation of the award-winning video game that tells the tale of a group of survivors trapped within the confines of a conflict-ridden city, enduring hardships that often test the essence of their very humanity. While the developers of the board game state that it is designed to retain much of the feel and struggle of the video game - improving their environment by day and protecting it by night - they say that the board game significantly broadens the video game’s universe by adding the element of an overall, unveiling plot, while keeping its main focus on the interpersonal interactions that will need to be balanced between each individual’s survival instinct and group decision-making. The designers are hoping to produce an “instant play” game, with no need for reading the manual before starting the adventure. It will be interesting to see how that develops.
SWORD & SORCERY
And rounding out this month’s Top 10 in spot number ten is the dice-rolling dungeon crawler, Sword & Sorcery. The publisher says that Sword & Sorcery is an epic-fantasy cooperative board game in which 1-5 players fight together against the forces of evil, which are controlled by the game system itself. Each player controls one or more heroes – legendary characters brought back to life by powerful sorcery. Weakened by the resurrection, they grow stronger during their story-driven quests. By acquiring soul points during battles, the heroes' souls regenerate, restoring their legendary status with multiple powers, magic and soul weapons, and powerful artifacts. This game seems to be getting some traction due to several factors: it’s a dungeon crawl with an estimated 60-90 minute play time, the AI system that’s been designed to control the monsters (allowing all the players to take part in the adventure), the level of character customization, and an emphasis on its artwork and minis. Will all of these factors result in longevity for the game, or will it vanish as quickly as it appeared on people’s radar?

Games discussed in depth this month include:
LORDS OF HELLAS
New to the list is a game that, admittedly, wasn’t on my radar until I learned about the twist it puts on its theme: Lords of Hellas. Lords of Hellas is set in the Dark Ages, where ancient Greece is ruled by mighty gods. But instead of supernatural abilities, these gods gain their powers by wielding advanced technology. In the game, players will control heroes with various, asymmetric abilities. Victory can be achieved through several different strategies as well. Players will need to place and use their armies wisely, while they and their hero also deal with random events, which will require the players to join together in either a vote or taking action. The end of the game is triggered when one of a variety of victory conditions is met, as opposed to tracking points. The game’s seemingly original twists on theme and gameplay make this one that I’m personally keeping an eye on. Are others out there doing the same? Well, we’ll see in the months to come if Lords Of Hellas stays on the countdown or fades into obscurity like an ancient myth.
THIS WAR OF MINE: THE BOARD GAME
Historically, board games based on video games can be very tricky to pull off successfully. Slot number eight goes to This War of Mine: The Board Game, the tabletop adaptation of the award-winning video game that tells the tale of a group of survivors trapped within the confines of a conflict-ridden city, enduring hardships that often test the essence of their very humanity. While the developers of the board game state that it is designed to retain much of the feel and struggle of the video game - improving their environment by day and protecting it by night - they say that the board game significantly broadens the video game’s universe by adding the element of an overall, unveiling plot, while keeping its main focus on the interpersonal interactions that will need to be balanced between each individual’s survival instinct and group decision-making. The designers are hoping to produce an “instant play” game, with no need for reading the manual before starting the adventure. It will be interesting to see how that develops.
SWORD & SORCERY
And rounding out this month’s Top 10 in spot number ten is the dice-rolling dungeon crawler, Sword & Sorcery. The publisher says that Sword & Sorcery is an epic-fantasy cooperative board game in which 1-5 players fight together against the forces of evil, which are controlled by the game system itself. Each player controls one or more heroes – legendary characters brought back to life by powerful sorcery. Weakened by the resurrection, they grow stronger during their story-driven quests. By acquiring soul points during battles, the heroes' souls regenerate, restoring their legendary status with multiple powers, magic and soul weapons, and powerful artifacts. This game seems to be getting some traction due to several factors: it’s a dungeon crawl with an estimated 60-90 minute play time, the AI system that’s been designed to control the monsters (allowing all the players to take part in the adventure), the level of character customization, and an emphasis on its artwork and minis. Will all of these factors result in longevity for the game, or will it vanish as quickly as it appeared on people’s radar?
