The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP /ˈæskæp/) is an American not-for-profit performance-rights organization (PRO) that protects its members' musical copyrights by monitoring public performances of their music, whether via a broadcast or live performance, and compensating them accordingly.
ASCAP collects licensing fees from users of music created by ASCAP members, then distributes them back to its members as royalties. In effect, the arrangement is the product of a compromise: when a song is played, the user does not have to pay the copyright holder directly, nor does the music creator have to bill a radio station for use of a song.
In 2012, ASCAP collected over US$941 million in licensing fees and distributed $828.7 million in royalties to its members, with an 11.6 percent operating expense ratio. As of July 2013, ASCAP membership included over 460,000 songwriters, composers, and music publishers.
In the United States, ASCAP competes with two other PROs — Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) and the Society of European Stage Authors and Composers (SESAC).
Dwan Howard (born January 23, 1985), better known by his stage name Curtiss King is an American hip hop recording artist and record producer based out of the Inland Empire. Signed to independent label, Black Cloud Music, King is also known for his productions credits with artists such as Murs Noa James, Top Dawg Entertainment recording artist Ab-Soul, Glasses Malone, Mack 10 and more.
Curtiss King was born on January 23, 1985 in Bellflower, CA. King grew up as a shy child, particularly while attending Curtiss Middle school, he found ways to combat his insecurities by listening to music and getting lost in 90s sitcoms; giving him his stage name Curtiss King. From the beginning, with the help of a high school friend, YouTube, and a library card, Curtiss King set out to teach himself how to produce, engineer and write his own records, edit his own videos, design his own album covers, script his own websites, and build his brand from the ground up.

In this clip from www.artistshousemusic.org - Todd Brabec is the Vice President and Director of Membership for the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). He talks about the differences between ASCAP and BMI. One of the main differences is the reason each organization was founded. ASCAP is a writer and publisher owned organization dedicated to enforcing the copyright law. BMI is a corporation owned by the broadcasting industry. The two organizations also differ in other ways such as payment formulas. Also in this segment, Brabec stresses the affiliation regulations. Writers have to join one or the other. However, writers are free to switch to the other organization. The significance of a good relationship with foreign societies is covered as well. Brabec also focuse...

They make sure you are protected in music business dealings and ensure who did what on each song. Also they make sure payments and royalties through them are dispersed accordingly and that everyone is earning their proper percentage on each song. Basically, the music industry can get down right nasty at times, just like any other industry. Organizations such as ASCAP and BMI are important so all the art...

Another place
Another time
Another way out
Another face
Another line
Another cop out
Still I don't know what I am looking for
Another day
Another way
Another reason
Another week
Another month
Another season
Still I don't know what I am looking for
Shout it out to the world
I will fight to be heard
I'll show you what I'm made of
I face the clock
I face my fears
I face my own fate
I face the shock
I face my peers
I face my own mistakes
Still I don't know what I am looking for
If I start to change
I'll find my place
I'll try my best to find my way
Then I might start to find what I am looking for
Shout it out to the world
I will fight to be heard
I'll show you you what I'm made of
Shout as loud as I can
I will fight till the end
I'll show you you what I'm made of
Put myself to the test
Lift the weight off my chest
Stand up to separate myself from the rest
Settle for nothing less
Keep all my fears in check
Stand up to separate myself from the rest
Another place
Another time
Another way out
Shout it out to the world
I will fight to be heard
I'll show you you what I'm made of
Shout as loud as I can
I will fight till the end
I'll show you you what I'm made of
