We were sitting at a meal recently with Gen Z's from three continents. Seven countries other than the USA were all facing me, all young believers. I had just covered Genesis 1-9 that morning and one bright, NextGeneration missionary-in-training asked me, "Now you said the OT & NT JUST recorded capital punishment, NOT that GOD ADVOCATED such, right?" Wow, did that ever lead to a wonderful hour-long Bible study at that meal! They had NO CLUE that you could derive BIBLICAL CONVICTIONS. They had CULTURAL convictions and didn't even know their CULTURE WAS WRONG!
Point One—Biblical Convictions start with the Bible Because we are Citizens of Heaven—Living on Earth. Our starting place for Biblical Convictions is Romans 13.
As Paul sat to write perhaps the clearest words to frame the Biblical convictions of a Citizen of Heaven, living on earth—he was sitting in Corinth. Looking down across the city must have grieved his soul. Paul lived around gymnasiums filled with nude men who were wrestling, boxing, and sprinting.
In the distance, seeing the men and women going into the bathhouses, brothels, and heading up the trail to the shrine prostitutes up on the acro-Corinthos, must have even more grieved his Spirit-filled heart. Just as it grieved the Lord He served.
Just a couple of days by ship from Corinth was the center of the Earth in Paul’s day—Rome. Swarming with soldiers, citizens, slaves, and commercialism, Rome reigned over nearly the entire known world of Paul’s day.
How were Christians to live in the world of the New Testament? Especially in the capital city of Rome--rife with homosexuality, abortions, gambling, infanticide, slavery, oppression of the poor, egalitarianism, and every form of the occult?
Paul sits down to write to that very city where saints had to live, work, and vote.
He writes the seven verses that summarize their responsibilities of citizenship on earth.
We often forget that the Roman World had much citizen involvement. There was a long history in Rome of elected bodies that variously guided, counseled, and at times legislated the Roman World. Although there was an Emperor who ruled, there was still much about daily life that was determined by a very advanced and regulated representative government. Some of the arenas of power during various eras of Roman life were: 1 The Centuriate Committee; 2 The Committee of the Tribal Peoples; 3 The Council of the People; 4 And the most enduring, known, and powerful – The Roman Senate.
So into this advanced and thriving world of nearly worldwide power—what were Paul’s instructions? Look with me to Romans 13. This passage has long been regarded as the ultimate statement of the Biblical Responsibilities for a Christian and their relationship to whatever government they are under.

The words “QUEEN of HEAVEN” are found in five verses in the Bible (Jeremiah 7:18; 44:17-19, 25). “The Two Babylons” by Alexander Hislop. The worship of Semiramis throughout history has often had these elements:
Semiramis was called the Queen of Heaven;
Semiramis was worshipped by the offering of a wafer, or cake;
Semiramis began the practice of 40 days of weeping over Tammuz before the feast of celebrating his resurrection.
These mystery cults around Semiramis also had purgatory, which they taught and believed and adhered to.
PERGAMOS to ROME: Three hundred years later, Rome moved into power, Julius Caesar had all the priestesses and priests of Semiramis moved from Pergamos to Rome. That's history. You can read that yourself. Julius Caesar had a great idea about having more power if he could combine a false religion with his system. You see, he knew what every good conqueror knows; you've got to get the people religiously. When the worship of Semiramis arrived in Rome, the chief priest of the Mystery Religions in Rome took the title Pontifex Maximum and it was imprinted on his miter. The title had to do with the worship of a god called Dagon the Fish-god. From then on, every emperor in Rome wore the title Pontifex Maximum.
CONSTANTINE & CHRISTIANITY: During the year A. D. 306 a Roman emperor named Constantine was threatened by a very powerful enemy army. Realizing that his uneasy troops needed confidence, Constantine claimed to have seen a vision on the eve of the battle. He saw a large blue flag with a red cross on it and heard a mighty voice that said In hoc signo vinces -- “in this sign conquer.”
Babylonianism to The Church: In 381 A.D., the Roman emperor Gratian refused to wear the paraphernalia of Babylonianism, but he passed it to the Roman Pope Damasus. Since Damasus, every Pope of Rome has worn the garb of Babylon--the fish hat, the crosier, and the keys of Janus and Cybele. In our days, Pope John Paul II and his most recent successor, Pope Benedict XVI, wears the garb of Babylonian idolatry. As the pagans had worshipped their gods (icons of their deceased pontiffs) in their pantheons and temples, they now worshipped their patron saints and their lcons in cathedrals and churches.

John Barnett
John Barnett (July 15, 1802 – April 16, 1890) was an English composer and writer on music.
Life
Barnett was the eldest son of a Prussian Jew named Bernhard Beer, who changed his surname on settling in England as a jeweller. According to some he was a cousin of the composer Giacomo Meyerbeer. Barnett was born at Bedford, and at the age of eleven sang at the Lyceum Theatre stage in London. His good voice led to his being given a musical education, and he soon began writing songs and lighter pieces for the stage.
In 1834 he published a collection of Lyrical Illustrations of the Modern Poets. His opera The Mountain Sylph - with which his name is nowadays most associated - received a warm welcome when produced at the Lyceum on 25 August 1834, as the first modern English opera, and was given over 100 performances, which was an unusual success. It was followed by Fair Rosamond in 1837, and Farinelli in 1839, but Barnett never again achieved the success that he had enjoyed with The Mountain Sylph. Disappointed with his reception as a composer, Barnett retired to the country. He had a large connection as a singing-master at Cheltenham, and published Systems and Singing-masters (1842) and School for the Voice (1844). Barnett wrote several songs for the theatre with the actor, playwright and theatre manager John Baldwin Buckstone, and also some instrumental works, including three string quartets and a violin sonata.

John Barnett (rugby)
John Thomas "Towser" Barnett (19 January 1880 – 2 October 1918) was a pioneer Australian rugby union and rugby league player and won an Olympic gold medal winning in rugby at the 1908 Summer Olympics. He was one of Australia's early dual-code rugby internationals.
Rugby union career
A hooker/prop with the Newtown Rugby Union club in Sydney, Barnett was selected a total of 5 international rugby times to play for Australia. His debut game was against New Zealand, at Sydney, on 20 July 1907. Barnett was selected to the first Wallaby 1908-09 Australia rugby union tour of the British Isles and France, the squad captained by Herbert Moran. That side competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics in London and Barnett was a member of the Australia national rugby union team captained by Chris McKivat which won the gold medal.
On his return to Australia he joined the fledgling code of rugby league along with fourteen of his Olympic teammates.
Rugby league career
Barnett and five other gold medal winning Wallabies joined the Newtown club in Sydney in 1910 where he played the next six seasons. He was a member of the premiership winning Newtown side in 1910. He was selected in both Ashes Tests against Great Britain in 1910 when Australia hosted the tourists.

John Barnett (Australian rules footballer)
John Barnett (born 15 August 1975) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne and Collingwood in the Australian Football League (AFL).
Barnett played for Endeavour Hills and the Hawthorn Under 19s prior to joining North Melbourne. He had also appeared for Hawthorn in the 1992 Foster's Cup, the league's pre-season competition, when he was only 16. Hawthorn traded Barnett to North Melbourne during the 1993 AFL Draft, in return for the 56th draft pick, which they used on Rayden Tallis.
A forward, he could only manage six appearances in his first two seasons and didn't play any games in 1996. He also failed to have an impact at Collingwood, who had acquired him in a trade.

In our days, Pope John Paul II and his most recent successor, Pope Benedict XVI, wears the garb of Babylonian idolatry. As the pagans had worshipped their gods (icons of their deceased pontiffs) in their pantheons and temples, they now worshipped their patron saints and their lcons in cathedrals and churches.

We were sitting at a meal recently with Gen Z's from three continents. Seven countries other than the USA were all facing me, all young believers. I had just covered Genesis 1-9 that morning and one bright, NextGeneration missionary-in-training asked me, "Now you said the OT & NT JUST recorded capital punishment, NOT that GOD ADVOCATED such, right?" Wow, did that ever lead to a wonderful hour-long Bible study at that meal! They had NO CLUE that you could derive BIBLICAL CONVICTIONS. They had CULTURAL convictions and didn't even know their CULTURE WAS WRONG!
Point One—Biblical Convictions start with the Bible Because we are Citizens of Heaven—Living on Earth. Our starting place for Biblical Convictions is Romans 13.
As Paul sat to write perhaps the clearest words to frame the Biblical convictions of a Citizen of Heaven, living on earth—he was sitting in Corinth. Looking down across the city must have grieved his soul. Paul lived around gymnasiums filled with nude men who were wrestling, boxing, and sprinting.
In the distance, seeing the men and women going into the bathhouses, brothels, and heading up the trail to the shrine prostitutes up on the acro-Corinthos, must have even more grieved his Spirit-filled heart. Just as it grieved the Lord He served.
Just a couple of days by ship from Corinth was the center of the Earth in Paul’s day—Rome. Swarming with soldiers, citizens, slaves, and commercialism, Rome reigned over nearly the entire known world of Paul’s day.
How were Christians to live in the world of the New Testament? Especially in the capital city of Rome--rife with homosexuality, abortions, gambling, infanticide, slavery, oppression of the poor, egalitarianism, and every form of the occult?
Paul sits down to write to that very city where saints had to live, work, and vote.
He writes the seven verses that summarize their responsibilities of citizenship on earth.
We often forget that the Roman World had much citizen involvement. There was a long history in Rome of elected bodies that variously guided, counseled, and at times legislated the Roman World. Although there was an Emperor who ruled, there was still much about daily life that was determined by a very advanced and regulated representative government. Some of the arenas of power during various eras of Roman life were: 1 The Centuriate Committee; 2 The Committee of the Tribal Peoples; 3 The Council of the People; 4 And the most enduring, known, and powerful – The Roman Senate.
So into this advanced and thriving world of nearly worldwide power—what were Paul’s instructions? Look with me to Romans 13. This passage has long been regarded as the ultimate statement of the Biblical Responsibilities for a Christian and their relationship to whatever government they are under.

John Barnett
John Barnett (July 15, 1802 – April 16, 1890) was an English composer and writer on music.
Life
Barnett was the eldest son of a Prussian Jew named Bernhard Beer, who changed his surname on settling in England as a jeweller. According to some he was a cousin of the composer Giacomo Meyerbeer. Barnett was born at Bedford, and at the age of eleven sang at the Lyceum Theatre stage in London. His good voice led to his being given a musical education, and he soon began writing songs and lighter pieces for the stage.
In 1834 he published a collection of Lyrical Illustrations of the Modern Poets. His opera The Mountain Sylph - with which his name is nowadays most associated - received a warm welcome when produced at the Lyceum on 25 August 1834, as the first modern English opera, and was given over 100 performances, which was an unusual success. It was followed by Fair Rosamond in 1837, and Farinelli in 1839, but Barnett never again achieved the success that he had enjoyed with The Mountain Sylph. Disappointed with his reception as a composer, Barnett retired to the country. He had a large connection as a singing-master at Cheltenham, and published Systems and Singing-masters (1842) and School for the Voice (1844). Barnett wrote several songs for the theatre with the actor, playwright and theatre manager John Baldwin Buckstone, and also some instrumental works, including three string quartets and a violin sonata.
