Man charged over 'machete' incident in Perth CBD

Police have charged a man over an incident in the Perth CBD on Friday after he allegedly made threats armed with a machete.

It will be alleged around 10.20am police saw the man carrying a machete as he walked near Barrack and Wellington Streets in Perth.

Police attempted to apprehend him but he ran from them, before he tried to enter a number of cars stopped near the intersection.

Members of the public also tried to help stop the man.

He then ran into the McDonalds fast food restaurant near the Barrack and Murray Street intersection.

It will be further alleged the man grabbed a 23-year-old female staff member while armed with the machete and made threats towards her.

Police deployed a Taser, which caused him to drop the machete. He was then arrested by officers.

Perth Detectives have charged the 43-year-old of no fixed address with being armed in a way that may cause fear, carried a controlled weapon and threaten to kill.

He will appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday.
