Tales of Vesperia PS3 - New Game Speed Run in 5:26:40 (With Commentary)

Fanatic and I were doing a run at the same time too while commentating (not really a race, but yeah). This is a Single Segment (Run done on 1 sitting), New Game (No Grade Shop Bonuses), Single Player and Any % Speed Run of the PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia. The main reason why this was done on the PS3 version was the skip cutscene feature. While the game runs better on the 360 and bosses are easier to deal with due to not as much tech outs, skipping cutscenes just saves a lot more time overall. Also its worth to mention that the in-game clock (the one that is showed on your save files and menus) is INACCURATE on the PS3 version due to it using the same in-game clock as the 360 version but with the lower performance (lower frame rate) it makes the clock stay behind by some frames each second, if you are gonna time yourself doing a run of this version of the game you are gonna have to use a real time clock for better comparison. Just to give you an example of what I mean with the clock. The run was done on 5:26:40 on real time, but the game showed that I beat the game in 4 hours and 40ish minutes. Thats a big gap in time. Timer Starts When I select "New Game" Timer Ends when Duke's 2nd Form is defeated. Terms and Stuff you need to know about the Run: Run is done on EASY MODE since, its a speed run, you want to kill bosses fast. This is not to say that it ain't challenging, the lack of levels and equipment starts catching up on Part 2 of the game and you can easily get a game over if you aren't carefull or the bosses decide to troll you. So the skill and strats (and luck -_-) of the player is put to the test nonetheless. Gattuso = Gattuso on Easy Mode was programmed to NOT MOVE untill his HP goes below 15K (His max HP is 18K on easy mode). This also applies on the 360 version and really saved our butts cause killing the cubs without Gattuso killing us in the process is kinda hard on this type of run lol Bosses on the PS3 version = Bosses on the PS3 version recieve a major change in mechanics compared to the 360. While they are able to tech out of combos on the 360, they don't do it as often as on the PS3 version. On this version its really hard to be able to combo a boss and in the case of the run really hard to hit them with Combination 1 (scroll down for explanation) before they interrupt you. Some bosses like Baitojoh (AKA F****** Sushi) are just troll to the max, that boss is probably the worst boss of the run (Yes, even worse than Alexei and Duke lol) FRC = Free Run Cancel. Basicaly play in Manual Mode and Free Run after you do an attack in the direction you are attacking and you will be able to cancel the recovery of the attack. While you are on Free Run here you can't attack, so you have to use the guard button to quickly cancel the Free Run animation. This feature helps a lot and its available to everyone on the PS3 version. On the 360 version only Repede can do it and he needs a skill for it. Winged Boots = Boots that let you move faster on the overworld, dungeons and towns. We want those boots, saddly we need to farm items in order to synth them when they become available on a New Game file (Dahngrest, 1st visit). Thats why you see us fighting enemies cause we need 2 small feathers, 2 medium feathers, 1 Mane and 1 Grimoire Page for them. Aditional to that we also need items for the Seduction Costume Scene which is obligatory in the game (1 small feather, 1 Soft Tail [I call it Poliwog lol] and 1 Basilisk Scale). We also need materials for OVL Trio (1 Fire Stone and 1 Frost Stone) and OVL Quad (1 Geo Stone and 1 Air Stone) Combination 1 & 2: These skills basicaly give a damage boost of x2 or x4 respectively to the first hit of the Arcane Arte that you use on a specific chain (3 attacks - base - arcane & 3 attacks - base - altered - arcane). Really usefull for the 2nd half of the run. This took over a month of planning and a lot of Practice Runs and Run attempts and my main goal was getting below 5:30:00 and I did it, so I'm really happy with this run. It ain't perfect by any means. A lot of bosses trolled, there were some brain farts so the time is beatable, but I'm happy with the run overall.
