Segovia (/sɪˈɡoʊvɪə/; Spanish pronunciation: [seˈɣoβja]) is a city in the autonomous region of Castile and León, Spain. It is the capital of Segovia Province.
The name of Segovia is of Celtiberian origin. The first inhabitants named the city Segobriga. This name comes from two terms of the Celtiberian language of the Celtic branch of Indo-European. The term Sego means «victory» (the prefix is also present in other city names such as Segeda and Segontia, cf. German "Sieg") and the suffix -briga would mean «city» or «strength». So the name might be translated as "City of the victory" or "Victorious city".
Under the Romans and Arabs, the city was called Segovia (Σεγουβία, Ptolomeo ii. 6. § 56) and Šiqūbiyyah (شقوبية) respectively.
Segovia is located on the plains of Old Castile, near Valladolid and the Spanish capital, Madrid.
Segovia is one of nine provinces that make up the autonomous region of Castile and León. Burgos and Valladolid lie to the north, Ávila to the west, Madrid and Guadalajara to the south, and Soria to the east. The altitude of the province varies from 750 metres (2,461 feet) in the extreme northwest to a maximum of 2,430 m (7,972 ft) at Peñalara peak in the Sierra de Guadarrama.
Andrés Segovia Torres, 1st Marquis of Salobreña (Spanish: [anˈdɾes seˈɣoβja ˈtores]) (21 February 1893 – 2 June 1987), known as Andrés Segovia, was a virtuoso Spanish classical guitarist from Linares, Spain. Regarded as one of the greatest guitarists of all time, he is seen as the grandfather of the classical guitar. Many professional classical guitarists today are students of Segovia, or students of his students.
Segovia's contribution to the modern-romantic repertoire not only included commissions but also his own transcriptions of classical or baroque works. He is remembered for his expressive performances: his wide palette of tone, and his distinctive musical personality, phrasing and style.
Segovia was born in Linares, Jaén, Spain. He was sent at a very young age to live with his uncle Eduardo and his wife María. Eduardo arranged for Segovia's first music lessons with a violin teacher after recognizing that Segovia had an aptitude for music. This proved to be an unhappy introduction to music for the young Segovia because of the teacher's strict methods, and Eduardo stopped the lessons. His uncle decided to move to Granada to allow Segovia to obtain a better education; after arriving in Granada, Segovia recommenced his musical studies. Segovia was aware of flamenco during his formative years as a musician but stated that he "did not have a taste" for the form and chose instead the works of Sor, Tárrega and other classical composers. Tárrega agreed to give the self-taught Segovia some lessons but died before they could meet and Segovia states that his early musical education involved the "double function of professor and pupil in the same body".
A surname or family name is a name added to a given name. In many cases, a surname is a family name and many dictionaries define "surname" as a synonym of "family name". In the western hemisphere, it is commonly synonymous with last name because it is usually placed at the end of a person's given name.
In most Spanish-speaking and Portuguese-speaking countries, two or more last names (or surnames) may be used. In China, Hungary, Japan, Korea, Madagascar, Taiwan, Vietnam, and parts of India, the family name is placed before a person's given name.
The style of having both a family name (surname) and a given name (forename) is far from universal. In many countries, it is common for ordinary people to have only one name or mononym.
The concept of a "surname" is a relatively recent historical development, evolving from a medieval naming practice called a "byname". Based on an individual's occupation or area of residence, a byname would be used in situations where more than one person had the same name.
JS or js may refer to:
E minor is a minor scale consisting of the pitches E, F♯, G, A, B, C, and D. Its key signature has one sharp. The E harmonic minor raises the note D to D♯.
Its relative major is G major, and its parallel major is E major.
Much of the classical guitar repertoire is in E minor, as this is a very natural key for the instrument. In standard tuning (E A D G B E), four of the instrument's six open (unfretted) strings are part of the tonic chord. The key of E minor is also popular in heavy metal music, as its tonic is the lowest note on a standard-tuned guitar.

Segovia belongs to the three historical metropolises around Madrid, next to Avila and Toledo. Segovia has a long and varied history that began in the 1st millennium before Christ. From here, the Vaccaei, who settled here already in Celtic-Iberian time, organized their resistance against Romans. The city was expanded by the Romans into an important military base. After the decline of the Roman Empire, Segovia became part of the Visigoth kingdom. From 13 to 15 century, Segovia was the royal residence. please read more: https://blog.myvideomedia.com Segovia zählt neben Avila und Toledo zu den drei historischen Metropolen rund um Madrid. We roam the region of Castile, starting in Toledo — so well-preserved and packed with cultural wonder that the entire city has been declared a national monument, on to Segovia for a festive day out with the locals, then to Ávila for a dose of medieval architecture, finishing with a traditional stroll in Salamanca's Plaza Mayor. © 2004 Rick Steves' Europe
Segovia Travel Video - Unesco World Heritage--listed Segovia has always had a whiff of legend about it, not least in the myths that Segovia was founded by Hercules or by the son of Noah. It may also have something to do with the fact that nowhere else in Spain has such a stunning monument to Roman grandeur (the soaring aqueduct) survived in the heart of a vibrant modern city. Or maybe its because art really has imitated life Segovia-style -- Walt Disney is said to have modelled Sleeping Beautys castle in Californias Disneyland on Segovias Alcázar. Whatever it is, the effect is stunning: a city of warm terracotta and sandstone hues set amid the rolling hills of Castilla and against the backdrop of the Sierra de Guadarrama. Take a tour of The Alcázar of Segovia in Spain -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions series by GeoBeats. In central Spain, a mighty, ship-like palace towers above the landscape. Segovia's Alcazar has over a thousand years of history. The current structure was designed in the 12th century. The castle served as a royal palace until the 17th century. It later became a prison, and then an artillery school. The ornately decorated Alcazar houses many halls of art and military memorabilia. Impressive architecture makes it a natural draw for tourists from around the world.
Citywalk Segovia. Have a Piglet for lunch and visit Plaza Mayor, the Alcázar and of course the immense roman aquaduct. See how well these Romans could pile up stones without any cement : it holds for almost 2000 years

Take a tour of Segovia Cathedral in Spain -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions series by GeoBeats. The dozens of spires of the impressive Segovia Cathedral all direct the eye heavenwards. The elegant sand-colored cathedral is an awe-inspiring sight to look upon. The bell-tower is the building's highest point, reaching nearly 300 feet at the spire. The cathedral dates back to the 16th century and took roughly 52 years to complete. As beautiful as the exterior is, the arches, naves, and paintings inside are perhaps more so. Don't miss the Segovia Cathedral's courtyards or its golden exterior at night.
