Tokyo (東京, Tōkyō, "Eastern Capital") (Japanese: [toːkjoː], English /ˈtoʊki.oʊ/), officially Tokyo Metropolis (東京都, Tōkyō-to), is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan, and is both the capital and largest city of Japan. The Greater Tokyo Area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world. It is the seat of the Emperor of Japan and the Japanese government. Tokyo is in the Kantō region on the southeastern side of the main island Honshu and includes the Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands. Formerly known as Edo, it has been the de facto seat of government since 1603 when Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu made the city his headquarters. It officially became the capital after Emperor Meiji moved his seat to the city from the old capital of Kyoto in 1868; at that time Edo was renamed Tokyo. Tokyo Metropolis was formed in 1943 from the merger of the former Tokyo Prefecture (東京府, Tōkyō-fu) and the city of Tokyo (東京市, Tōkyō-shi).
Tourism in Tokyo is a major industry. In 2006, 4.81 million foreigners and 420 million Japanese visits to Tokyo were made; the economic value of these visits totaled 9.4 trillion yen according to the government of Tokyo. Many tourists visit the various downtowns, stores, and entertainment districts throughout the neighborhoods of the special wards of Tokyo; particularly school children on class trips, a visit to Tokyo Tower is de rigueur.
Cultural offerings include both omnipresent Japanese pop culture and associated districts such as Shibuya and Harajuku, subcultural attractions such as Studio Ghibli anime center, as well as museums like the Tokyo National Museum, which houses 37% of the country's artwork national treasures (87/233). No buildings in Tokyo are World heritage sites and only the Jizo Hall of Shofuku-ji, a suburban temple, is a National treasure. Other popular attractions include the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, and Sensō-ji, a popular temple. Finally, many tourists, particularly foreign tourists, visit Tsukiji Fish Market, as the time-zone difference leads to foreign visitors waking up very early local time.
The transport network in Greater Tokyo includes public and private rail and highway networks; airports for international, domestic, and general aviation; buses; motorcycle delivery services, walking, bicycling, and commercial shipping. While the nexus is in the central part of Tokyo, every part of the Greater Tokyo Area has rail or road transport services. The sea and air transport is available from limited number of ports for the general public.

Keywords: rural-settingDid you know that Tokyo has islands? Yes, the prefecture (province/state) of Tokyo has a volcanic chain of islands called the Izu Seven Islands group. We stayed at Shikinejima (Shikine-jima), which is a small island 3 km long by 2.5 km wide that is located 160 km south of the city of Tokyo. To get there, we took an overnight ferry, where we slept on a carpeted floor. I'm heading back to Tokyo via Ferry from Hachijojima Island. The trip takes about 11-12 hours and costs ¥10,060 (about $92) for 2nd class B tickets (the cheapest one). There are vending machines galore onboard as well as a restaurant, buy tickets from the vending machine and find your own seat, cafeteria style. I flew from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Hachijojima 10 days ago (1 hour / ¥13,500 or $120) but boat is convenient if you want to camp. The ferry pier at Hachijojima is only a 200 meter walk to the free camping area. Tokyo has tropical islands and it's public transportation extends beyond trains and subways to this helicopter service between Hachijojima and Aogashima. After a week on Aogashima, I filmed my experience flying back to Hachijojima. Aogashima is a wonderful island filled with friendly people, some of whom say me off and waved good bye as my helicopter departed. Info: The helicopter service takes 20 minutes from lift off to landing. Cost is ¥11,500 / 5kg of baggage is free of charge then ¥250 per each kg. Reservations start a month in advance so book early! URL: http://tohoair-tal.jp You can also take a ferry to Aogashima but the boat service doesn't run everyday and is sometimes canceled due to weather, dangerous waves at the port. Footage has emerged of a new island being formed in a volcanic chain some 1000km south of Tokyo. The 200 metre wide spit of land will probably not survive for long, as most volcanic islands are either destroyed during their creation or sink below the waves shortly after. If it survives, it will be the first new island in the area since 1974. We were in Tokyo for 7 days, and vlogged our whole trip! This is Day 1, where we journey from Narita Airport to our AirBNB house in western Tokyo. It was my first time being back in Japan, my home country, in 17 years! For our first day, Marie and I were awake for about 21 hour straight. We spent many hours commuting... and were finally glad to check into our AirBNB in Hounancho, a quick 15 minute trip west of Shinjuku Station. Once we dropped off our bags, we just wanted to get out and eat some real Japanese food, and what's better than some authentic Japanese ramen! To answer many questions, no, I'm not Japanese. I am Korean-American. My mother is from Seoul. My father is from Chicago. I was born and raised in Japan, and grew up on U.S. Navy bases there. My father was in the ...

Website Post: http://bit.ly/LWIFXEP17 Steady-ish shots: For those wondering, the stabilizer used is the Zhiyun Crane. It allowed me to capture scenes I normally wouldn't as I was walking from one place to another. It's not completely smooth though, as a lot of footage has some bounce if you pay attention. If I would have walked with a more ninja-like step, I probably could have cut it down somewhat. People not staring: The nice thing about the handheld stabilizer, is that it wasn't as obvious when I ...

Take my hand
Rob me for a while of my sight
Don't let me stand
Here underneath the red light
Oh touch my face
Feel the fascination as love grows
Your embrace
Eases the pain that only Tokyo knows
Where were you when I was cold
And all the world was out to get me
(Chorus)
Tokyo
Why can't I ever say no
Tokyo
Sense the chill
Of silent nights on my skin
Feel the thrill
As these four walls just cave in
Taste the rain
Splashes down on my roof
Seek in vain
For you will never know the real truth
This human heart beats much too fast
For comfort or for love in Tokyo
(Repeat Chorus)
Elvis Presley
Me and Yoko
Keo Plazo
