Global means of or referring to a globe and may also refer to:
Information (shortened as info) is that which informs. In other words, it is the answer to a question of some kind. It is also that from which data and knowledge can be derived, as data represents values attributed to parameters, and knowledge signifies understanding of real things or abstract concepts. As it regards data, the information's existence is not necessarily coupled to an observer (it exists beyond an event horizon, for example), while in the case of knowledge, the information requires a cognitive observer.
At its most fundamental, information is any propagation of cause and effect within a system. Information is conveyed either as the content of a message or through direct or indirect observation of some thing. That which is perceived can be construed as a message in its own right, and in that sense, information is always conveyed as the content of a message.
Information can be encoded into various forms for transmission and interpretation (for example, information may be encoded into a sequence of signs, or transmitted via a sequence of signals). It can also be encrypted for safe storage and communication.
Data (/ˈdeɪtə/ DAY-tə, /ˈdætə/ DA-tə, or /ˈdɑːtə/ DAH-tə) is a set of values of qualitative or quantitative variables; restated, pieces of data are individual pieces of information. Data is measured, collected and reported, and analyzed, whereupon it can be visualized using graphs or images. Data as a general concept refers to the fact that some existing information or knowledge is represented or coded in some form suitable for better usage or processing.
Raw data, i.e. unprocessed data, is a collection of numbers, characters; data processing commonly occurs by stages, and the "processed data" from one stage may be considered the "raw data" of the next. Field data is raw data that is collected in an uncontrolled in situ environment. Experimental data is data that is generated within the context of a scientific investigation by observation and recording.
The Latin word "data" is the plural of "datum", and still may be used as a plural noun in this sense. Nowadays, though, "data" is most commonly used in the singular, as a mass noun (like "information", "sand" or "rain").
Information technology (IT) is the application of computers and telecommunications equipment to store, retrieve, transmit and manipulate data, often in the context of a business or other enterprise. IT is considered a subset of information and communications technology (ICT). In 2012, Zuppo proposed an ICT hierarchy where each hierarchy level "contain some degree of commonality in that they are related to technologies that facilitate the transfer of information and various types of electronically mediated communications.". Business/IT was one level of the ICT hierarchy.
The term is commonly used as a synonym for computers and computer networks, but it also encompasses other information distribution technologies such as television and telephones. Several industries are associated with information technology, including computer hardware, software, electronics, semiconductors, internet, telecom equipment, engineering, healthcare, e-commerce and computer services.
Humans have been storing, retrieving, manipulating and communicating information since the Sumerians in Mesopotamia developed writing in about 3000 BC, but the term information technology in its modern sense first appeared in a 1958 article published in the Harvard Business Review; authors Harold J. Leavitt and Thomas L. Whisler commented that "the new technology does not yet have a single established name. We shall call it information technology (IT)." Their definition consists of three categories: techniques for processing, the application of statistical and mathematical methods to decision-making, and the simulation of higher-order thinking through computer programs.
The World Economic Forum's Networked Readiness Index (NRI), also referred to as Technology Readiness, measures the propensity for countries to exploit the opportunities offered by information and communications technology (ICT). It is published in collaboration with INSEAD, as part of their annual Global Information Technology Report (GITR). The report is regarded as the most authoritative and comprehensive assessment of how ICT impacts the competitiveness and well-being of nations.
The index was originally developed by the Information Technology Group, which worked at Harvard University's Center for International Development until 2002. It seeks to better understand the impact of ICT on the competitiveness of nations and is a composite of three components:

Denmark and the Nordic countries again dominate the rankings in the Global Information Technology Report, but this year the United States and South Korea make progress in the Networked Readiness Index (NRI) for 2007-2008, which covers a record number of 127 developed and developing economies around the world. Global Information Technology Report 2007-2008 cover"Today with the benefit of seven years of data, we have concrete, hard data to support the statement that technology does in fact make a country more competitive," says Soumitra Dutta, the Roland Berger Chaired Professor in Business and Technology at INSEAD, who co-authored the report which is published by the World Economic Forum.
http://www.weforum.org/ The World Economic Forum releases its new edition of the Global Information Technology Report. Soumitra Dutta, INSEAD, author of the report, explains the report's methodology, while Benat Bilbao, World Economic Forum, discusses the year's rankings. Per-Ola Karlsson, Booz and Company, and Bill Davidson, Qualcomm, provide an industry perspective.
Information is Beautiful have created a global map showing what every country on earth is top for. Categorising the data points into “Commodity”, “Psychology”, “Ecology”, “Gastronomy”, “Economy”, “Nicety”, “Humanity”, “Technology” and “Nasty” shows the best and worst of our planet – ‘Because every country is the best at something’. Data was gathered from multiple sources including the CIA, UN, BBC, Reuters and the Guinness Book of World Records. For the optimists out there the leaders in positivity, wellbeing, happiness and scrabble players will be a refreshing ray of sunshine compared with murder, car crashes and spam emails. The map was compiled by David McCandless and colleagues at InformationisBeautiful.net. Full list here: https://www.disruptivetech.tv/news/global-data-what-every...

Miro Cupak presents this session at Index - San Francisco 2018. The sensitive nature of genetic data causes a major concern in genetics - a lot of life-saving information, despite having been collected, is inaccessible. Data discovery is believed to be the key to new breakthroughs. In the session, we tell the story of the Beacon Network, the largest search and discovery engine of human genomic data in the world. The system is a result of years of collaboration between developers, researchers and scientists on a global scale, and the flagship project of the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health. We describe the architecture and technologies behind the system with focus on the technical decisions that allowed us to scale and disrupt the perception of genetic data.

Final Oral Examination of: Afshin Dehghan For the Degree of: Doctor of Philosophy (Computer Science) Firstly, a new framework for multi-target tracking that uses a novel data association technique employing the Generalized Maximum Clique Problem (GMCP) formulation is presented. The majority of current methods, such as bipartite matching, incorporate a limited temporal locality of the sequence into the data association problem. On the other hand, our approach incorporates both motion and appearance in a global manner. The proposed method incorporates the whole temporal span and solves the data association problem for one object at a time. GMCP is used to solve the optimization problem of our data association. GMCP leads us to a more accurate approach to multi-object tracking; however, it...
Data is being hoovered from our connected devices every day. But when it emerged that that information could be used to manipulate our political views for money, regulators around the world started paying attention. It's called psychosocial profiling and it's put Facebook and the business of big data in the spotlight. Facebook makes money out of selling digital advertising space - with an annual revenue of $40bn. Over 1.4 billion people log into Facebook every day, but we don't know what they're selling about us, and it's totally unregulated. Last week, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had to answer accusations that 50 million users had their data harvested and passed on to a UK political consultancy. Cambridge Analytica is accused of using that data to target US voters during the 2016 US e...
