The data link layer or layer 2 is the second layer of the seven-layer OSI model of computer networking. This layer is the protocol layer that transfers data between adjacent network nodes in a wide area network (WAN) or between nodes on the same local area network (LAN) segment. The data link layer provides the functional and procedural means to transfer data between network entities and might provide the means to detect and possibly correct errors that may occur in the physical layer.
The data link layer is concerned with local delivery of frames between devices on the same LAN. Data-link frames, as these protocol data units are called, do not cross the boundaries of a local network. Inter-network routing and global addressing are higher-layer functions, allowing data-link protocols to focus on local delivery, addressing, and media arbitration. This way, the data link layer is analogous to a neighborhood traffic cop; it endeavors to arbitrate between parties contending for access to a medium, without concern for their ultimate destination. When devices attempt to use a medium simultaneously, frame collisions occur. Data-link protocols specify how devices detect and recover from such collisions, and may provide mechanisms to reduce or prevent them.

The transport layer implements reliable internetwork data transport services that are transparent to upper layers. Transport-layer functions typically include flow control, multiplexing, virtual circuit management, and error checking and recovery. Flow control manages data transmission between devices so that the transmitting device does not send more data than the receiving device can process. Multiplexing enables data from several applications to be transmitted onto a single physical link. Virtual circuits are established, maintained, and terminated by the transport layer. Error checking involves creating various mechanisms for detecting transmission errors, while error recovery involves taking an action, such as requesting that data be retransmitted, to resolve any errors that occur. ...

Cities are not mere physical and organizational devices: they are informational landscapes where places are shaped more by the streams of contents and less by the traditional physical evidences. Two layers coexist: a thick and dynamic layer of digital traces – the informational membrane – grows everyday on top of the material layer of the territory, the buildings and the infrastructures. The observation, the analysis and the representation of these two layers combined provides valuable insights on how the city is used and lived. The age-old mystery of why otherwise healthy dolphins, whales and porpoises get stranded along coasts worldwide deepens: After a collaboration between NASA scientists and marine biologists, new research suggests space weather is not the primary cause of animal beachings — but the research continues. The collaboration is now seeking others to join their search for the factors that send ocean mammals off course, in the hopes of perhaps one day predicting strandings before they happen. Scientist have long sought the answer to why such animals get beached, and one recent collaboration hoped to find a clear cut solution: Scientists from a cross-section of fields pooled massive data sets to see if disturbances to the magnetic field around Earth could be what confuses these sea creatures, known ...

With Urbano you can calculate layer volumes for a multi-pipe trench. You can set trench and layer data by using cross sections. You can create any number of cross sections along the pipe channel. Draw cross sections with several methods, e.g. on constant distance or in specific alignment points. The definition of a cross section is stored in a configuration, so you can use it in other projects as well. Equal to plan and profile, cross sections are completely dynamic. This means that any change in plan or profile is automatically updated in cross sections, and the other way around. To find out more, go to http://www.studioars.com

Canaan recently hosted our West Coast edition of FinTech Central (FTC) to discuss the current state of infrastructure in fintech. FTC, which launched in 2015, is our quarterly panel discussion about trends in the fintech ecosystem. At our first FTC, marketplace lending for XYZ and bitcoin were hot. Fast forward two years and we’ve seen a compression in global fintech investment. The data show that the first wave of fintech was focused primarily on consumer facing products, and after the panel, we now know that the underlying infrastructure of finance is horribly broken. The next generation of fintech products must take on the core of financial products, which, in turn, will improve the consumer experience. At our FTC West Coast on April 6th, we were fortunate enough to be joined by a cros...
In this video we move up to the distribution layer of our new network and configure trunking, routing, HSRP, SVIs, and tune spanning tree. The goal here is to get our switches setup so if one fails the other can take over as the gateway for all of our hosts we have in the access layer. I also go over what I left out in the last video and guess what... I left something out in this one as well. I swear I don't mean to do this, but it happens in every video. I'lll just see if anyone catches it.
Google Tech Talk February 12, 2013 (more info below) Presented by Jeff Hawkins. ABSTRACT The neocortex works on principles that are fundamentally different than traditional computers. In this talk I will describe recent advances in understanding the neocortex and how we are applying them to model millions of high velocity data streams. The talk will start with a description of sparse distributed representations, which are the fundamental units of information in brains. I will then discuss how these representations are learned and how the brain processes them to build predictive models from sensory data. Numenta has built a product called Grok that emulates these capabilities of the neocortex. Grok is being used to understand high velocity machine generated data in many different doma...

Very detailed overview and a full tear-down of a Cisco 3750G-24TS-S gigabit Layer 3 switch. Since these switches are highly successful, they are used in a large number of companies and organisations as a distribution layer switch. This is why I though that it would be interesting and informative to do an educational video on the Cisco 3750G from the perspective of the CCNA certification and also for repair technicians. The video is divided in three main sections: 1.) in the first portion I go over the ports, feature sets, Stackwise and related informations 2.) the middle section of the video shows the dismantled motherboard looking at it like a CCNA candidate would, going into the boot process and trying to give a short brainstorming on what happens to a packet using the OSI model 3.) i...

Jeff Hawkins, Co-Founder, Numenta Abstract: In this talk I will describe a theory that sensory regions of the neocortex process two inputs. One input is the well-known sensory data arriving via thalamic relay cells. We propose the second input is a representation of allocentric location. The allocentric location represents where the sensed feature is relative to the object being sensed, in an object-centric reference frame. As the sensors move, cortical columns learn complete models of objects by integrating sensory features and location representations over time. Lateral projections allow columns to rapidly reach a consensus of what object is being sensed. We propose that the representation of allocentric location is derived locally, in layer 6 of each column, using the same tiling prin...
DOWNLOAD PROJECT FILES AT http://www.VideoFort.com. In this tutorial VideoFort Don shows you how to track 2D Element onto an eye. In the first step you need to find a good spot to track, VideoFort Don chose a shadow on the eye that stayed consistent through the shot. If the track slips you can tweak the tracking to smooth everything. Next create a null object name it "tracker data" then go to edit target for the tracking and set the layer to tracker data. Now create a new white solid name it mask and create a mask around the whites of the eye. Make sure to parent the mask layer to the tracker data layer. You can animate the mask to the blink by keyframing it. Then you will the 2D elements underneath the white mask layer and set a Luma Matte. Lets move on to animating the 2D element. Open ...
