Watch aficionados descended on Sydney's Mercado restaurant on Thursday evening to see three Bulgari watches that have set world records for the thinness of a mechanical watch with various complications.
A crowd of about 70 attended the event, hosted jointly by Bulgari and The Australian Financial Review Magazine.
Bulgari Australia chief executive Brad Harvey said it was the first time the three record-breaking watches had been shown together in Australia.
"It reflects the sophistication of the market for watches here," said Mr Harvey. "Traditionally, high-net-worth individuals have gone overseas to buy watches of this type, because many brands don't bring watches with these complications and at this level of price point to Australia."
"But limited editions of watches that hold world records –the Australian market loves things like that."
The watches include the Octo Finissimo Automatic, which appeared at the Baselworld watch fair in Switzerland in March. It is the slimmest ultra-thin self-winding watch on the market, with a total thickness of just 5.15mm. The Finissimo's self-winding movement is just 2.23mm.
The Octo Finissimo is on display along with the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon, released in 2014 and the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater, released in 2016. Both hold the world record for thinness of a watch with their respective complication.
The watches are on display in the Bulgari boutique in Sydney's Castlereagh Street. They will be in the country until the end of August.
