The Coen brothers said in a statement, confirming they are writing, directing and producing a new series, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, for the streaming platform Netflix.
"We are streaming motherf---ers," the Coens said in a statement, effectively confirming the deal.
The series is described as a "western anthology" and the six one-hour episodes will contain six stories set in "the American frontier".
On the big screen, the Coen brothers are best known for films such as Fargo (1996), The Big Lebowski (1998), No Country for Old Men (2007) and True Grit (2010).
Tim Blake Nelson (left), who featured in the Coens' O Brother, Where Art Thou?, will star in the series.
This is theĀ first television series for the four-time Oscar winners..
Speculation about the project first surfaced in January; at the time it was described as a miniseries and the Coens indicated they were exploring ways to release it in cinemas.
It is to be filmed partly on location in New Mexico and the Nebraska Panhandle, the westernmost corner of the US state of Nebraska.
The Coens have previously shot projects in New Mexico, including the films No Country for Old Men and True Grit.
