Numbers Role in the Bible
Although few of us are in the nation of Israel's position today, the stories in Numbers still serve as a good example to us. Paul teaches that the events in Numbers are recorded for our instruction, that we may endure and escape temptation (
1 Cor 10:11-13
)
Numbers tell the story of Israels wanderings
the wilderness en route to the promised land of Cannan.
Numbers begins with Moses and Aaron taking a census of the whole nation, which is how the book gets its name.
It is the 4th movement in the Pentateuch (the 5 books of Moses)
They reach the promised land, but doubt God's promises when they see the land's mighty inhabitants.
Because they do not believe God, he prevents them from entering the land for another 40 years.
Numbers 14:11
"The LORD said to Moses, "How long will this people spurn Me? And how long will they not believe in Me, despite all the signs which I have performed in their midst?"
Numbers show us how a holy God dwells with his people. Israel rebels against God, and even Moses disobeys Him., but God is faithful to bring this nation to the promised land.
God keeps his promises: the promises He made to Abraham in Genesis along with His promises to bless and punish Israel.
1 Corinthians 10:11-13 (NLT)
11 These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age.
12 If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall.
13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

2. Commands concerning the priests and tabernacle (Num 5:1 - 9:14)
3. Israel journeys from Sinai to Canaan (Num 9:15 - 12:16)
4. Israel doubts God and is prohibited from entering Canaan (Num 13-14)
5. Israel wanders in the wilderness for 40 years (Num 15-25)
6. Moses prepares the people to enter the land (Num 26-36)
How do I apply this?
We can take away from Numbers not only a thorough history Israel's early days but also a renewed sense of God's delight in obedience. He is our God, too and He wants us to live righteously, worshiping Him through our words and works.
The journey of the Israelites through the wilderness earned the apostle Paul's notice when he penned his first letter to the Corinthian church. "
These things happened
", he worte in 1 Cor 10:6, "
as an example for us, so that we would not crave evil things as they also craved.
"

Book of Numbers
The Book of Numbers (from Greek Ἀριθμοί, Arithmoi; Hebrew: בְּמִדְבַּר, Bəmiḏbar, "In the desert [of]") is the fourth book of the Hebrew Bible, and the fourth of five books of the Jewish Torah.
Numbers begins at Mount Sinai, where the Israelites have received their laws and covenant from God and God has taken up residence among them in the sanctuary. The task before them is to take possession of the Promised Land. The people are numbered and preparations are made for resuming their march. The Israelites begin the journey, but they "murmur" at the hardships along the way, and about the authority of Moses and Aaron. For these acts, God destroys approximately 15,000 of them through various means. They arrive at the borders of Canaan and send spies into the land, but upon hearing the spies' fearful report concerning the conditions in Canaan the Israelites refuse to take possession of it, and God condemns them to death in the wilderness until a new generation can grow up and carry out the task. The book ends with the new generation of Israelites in the Plain of Moab ready for the crossing of the Jordan River.

Bible
The Bible (from Koine Greek τὰ βιβλία, tà biblía, "the books") is a collection of texts sacred in Judaism and Christianity. It is a collection of scriptures written at different times by different authors in different locations. Jews and Christians consider the books of the Bible to be a product of divine inspiration or an authoritative record of the relationship between God and humans.
There is no single canonical "Bible"; many Bibles have evolved, with overlapping and diverging contents. The Christian Old Testament overlaps with the Hebrew Bible and the Greek Septuagint; the Hebrew Bible is known in Judaism as the Tanakh. The New Testament is a collection of writings by early Christians, consisting of narratives, letters and apocalyptic writings. Among Christian denominations there is some disagreement about the contents of the canon, primarily in the Apocrypha, a list of works that are regarded with varying levels of respect.
Attitudes towards the Bible also vary amongst Christian groups. Roman Catholics, Anglicans and Eastern Orthodox Christians stress the harmony and importance of the Bible and sacred tradition, while Protestant churches focus on the idea of sola scriptura, or scripture alone. This concept arose during the Protestant Reformation, and many denominations today continue to support the use of the Bible as the only source of Christian teaching.

An overview of the book of Numbers narrative spans 40 yrs. The story begins at Mt. Sinai (after the Levitical law is delivered), and follows the children of Israel through the wilderness Numbers concludes with the Israelites on the plains of Moab, just across the river from the promised land. This is where Moses gives his final commision to the people - which is recorded in the next book, Deuteronomy . Theme verse of Numbers Numbers Role in the Bible Although few of us are in the nation of Israel's position today, the stories in Numbers still serve as a good example to us. Paul teaches that the events in Numbers are recorded for our instruction, that we may endure and escape temptation ( 1 Cor 10:11-13 ) Numbers tell the story of Israels wanderings the wilderness en route to the promised land of Cannan. Numbers begins with Moses and Aaron taking a census of the whole nation, which is how the book gets its name. It is the 4th movement in the Pentateuch (the 5 books of Moses) They reach the promised land, but doubt God's promises when they see the land's mighty inhabitants. Because they do not believe God, he prevents them from entering the land for another 40 years. Numbers 14:11 "The LORD said to Moses, "How long will this people spurn Me? And how long will they not believe in Me, despite all the signs which I have performed in their midst?" Numbers show us how a holy God dwells with his people. Israel rebels against God, and even Moses disobeys Him., but God is faithful to bring this nation to the promised land. God keeps his promises: the promises He made to Abraham in Genesis along with His promises to bless and punish Israel. 1 Corinthians 10:11-13 (NLT) 11 These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age. 12 If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. 13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. Quick outline of Numbers 1. Moses numbers the people (Num 1-4) 2. Commands concerning the priests and tabernacle (Num 5:1 - 9:14) 3. Israel journeys from Sinai to Canaan (Num 9:15 - 12:16) 4. Israel doubts God and is prohibited from entering Canaan (Num 13-14) 5. Israel wanders in the wilderness for 40 years (Num 15-25) 6. Moses prepares the people to enter the land (Num 26-36) How do I apply this? We can take away from Numbers not only a thorough history Israel's early days but also a renewed sense of God's delight in obedience. He is our God, too and He wants us to live righteously, worshiping Him through our words and works. The journey of the Israelites through the wilderness earned the apostle Paul's notice when he penned his first letter to the Corinthian church. " These things happened ", he worte in 1 Cor 10:6, " as an example for us, so that we would not crave evil things as they also craved. " Do you see any resemblance between grumbling, rebellious Israelites and yourself? How can you avoid following their example? With humility and sincerity, pray for a soft heart, open to God's guiding hand -

Numbers Role in the Bible
Although few of us are in the nation of Israel's position today, the stories in Numbers still serve as a good example to us. Paul teaches that the events in Numbers are recorded for our instruction, that we may endure and escape temptation (
1 Cor 10:11-13
)
Numbers tell the story of Israels wanderings
the wilderness en route to the promised land of Cannan.
Numbers begins with Moses and Aaron taking a census of the whole nation, which is how the book gets its name.
It is the 4th movement in the Pentateuch (the 5 books of Moses)
They reach the promised land, but doubt God's promises when they see the land's mighty inhabitants.
Because they do not believe God, he prevents them from entering the land for another 40 years.
Numbers 14:11
"The LORD said to Moses, "How long will this people spurn Me? And how long will they not believe in Me, despite all the signs which I have performed in their midst?"
Numbers show us how a holy God dwells with his people. Israel rebels against God, and even Moses disobeys Him., but God is faithful to bring this nation to the promised land.
God keeps his promises: the promises He made to Abraham in Genesis along with His promises to bless and punish Israel.
1 Corinthians 10:11-13 (NLT)
11 These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age.
12 If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall.
13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

Numbers show us how a holy God dwells with his people. Israel rebels against God, and even Moses disobeys Him., but God is faithful to bring this nation to the promised land.
