In computer science, real-time computing (RTC), or reactive computing describes hardware and software systems subject to a "real-time constraint", for example from event to system response. Real-time programs must guarantee response within specified time constraints, often referred to as "deadlines". Real-time responses are often understood to be in the order of milliseconds, and sometimes microseconds. A system not specified as operating in real time cannot usually guarantee a response within any timeframe, although actual or expected response times may be given.
A real-time system has been described as one which "controls an environment by receiving data, processing them, and returning the results sufficiently quickly to affect the environment at that time." The term "real-time" is also used in simulation to mean that the simulation's clock runs at the same speed as a real clock, and in process control and enterprise systems to mean "without significant delay".
Real-time software may use one or more of the following: synchronous programming languages, real-time operating systems, and real-time networks, each of which provide essential frameworks on which to build a real-time software application.
http://www.xmarter.com - Here you will learn about the concept of real-time computing. What does it mean when we say a system is real-time, and what benefits will you get from that type of system? You will see a demo of the mixing of Menthos and Diet Coke in this video! This video is part of The Xmarter TIBCO Architect Series presented by Chief TIBCO Architect Jazon Samillano of Xmarter, Inc. Although, you will find Jazon talking a lot about TIBCO Software, he is actually not an employee of TIBCO.

A real-time system is one that must process information and produce a response within a specified time, else risk severe consequences, including failure. That is, in a system with a real-time constraint it is no good to have the correct action or the correct answer after a certain deadline: it is either by the deadline or it is useless. There are three different types of real time system Hard Real time Firm Real time Soft Real time

Events are detected in real-time in embedded platforms using optimized computer vision and machine learning algorithms. The detection process is based on the ability to detect and track individuals, and analyze their different trajectory and motion patterns. A calibration process helps to provide 3D context to the scene and therefore increasing the detection performance by reducing the number of False Positives. Part of the developments were carried out in the framework of the EU FP7 project P-REACT (www.p-react.eu). The developments are included in the Viulib libraries. University of Colorado at Boulder, ECEN 5623 Real-Time Embedded Systems Fall 2011. Independent 2 dimensional control system using servos. Objective was to define a set point and then place a marble on the platform and have the system bring the ball to the set point. Any disturbance of the ball will elicit negative feedback and the control system will then bring the ball back to the set point. Pentium 4 processor running the real time operating system VxWorks. The servos do not have feedback encoders, all feedback of the system comes from the video camera located above the platform. All code for this project was written in C. The camera was running at a frame rate of 30 Hz. Thus the servos could be updated in intervals at 33.3 milliseconds. The platform was built using Legos. Ro...
We present a novel method for combining developmental tree models with turbulent wind fields. The tree geometry is created from internal growth functions of the developmental model and its response to external stress is induced by a physically-plausible wind field that is simulated by Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH). Our tree models are dynamically evolving complex systems that (1) react in real-time to high-frequent changes of the wind simulation; and (2) adapt to long-term wind stress. We extend this process by wind-related effects such as branch breaking as well as bud abrasion and drying. In our interactive system the user can adjust the parameters of the growth model, modify wind properties and resulting forces, and define the tree's long-term response to wind. By using graphics...

Physical objects can be mapped to highly detailed graphic objects to create a tangible connection point between the tactile and the virtual. In this example, a transparent globe is controlling a rendered version of earth in real time. The points on the screen indicate real-time seismic data as it occurs across the planet.
Wearable Computing has been supposed to be the megatrend of emerging technologies for several years. However a real breakthrough seems to be a long time coming though. What might be the reason? This question has been followed up during a specialized research during summer 2010 with a result of some ideas and visions for possible applications.
Implementation of an agent based flocking algorithm and a neighbour search algorithm for creating adaptive structural networks. 100.000 agents simulated in real time with CUDA on an Nvidia Quadro K6000 and frames rendered externally with Arnold.
An environment for creative collaboration is significant for enhancing human communication and expressive activities, and many researchers have explored different collaborative spatial interaction technologies. However, most of these systems require special equipment and cannot adapt to everyday environment. We introduce Second Surface, a novel multi-user Augmented reality system that fosters a real-time interaction for user-generated contents on top of the physical environment. This interaction takes place in the physical surroundings of everyday objects such as trees or houses. Our system allows users to place three dimensional drawings, texts, and photos relative to such objects and share this expression with any other person who uses the same software at the same spot. Banks and insurance companies lose billions of dollars each year to fraud, and investigating fraud often involves identifying suspicious patterns among mountains of uninteresting transactional data. Increasingly sophisticated fraudsters have developed a variety of ways to elude discovery, both by working together, and by leveraging various other means of constructing false identities. Graph databases offer new methods of uncovering fraud rings and other sophisticated scams with a high-level of accuracy, and are capable of stopping advanced fraud scenarios in real-time. This provides an enhanced degree of insight, compared to fraud detection algorithms that use basic statistical analysis and pattern recognition. Project web page: http://www.itn.liu.se/mit/research/computer-graphics-image-processing/real-time-noise-aware-tone-mapping?l=en Real-time high quality video tone mapping is needed for many applications, such as digital viewfinders in cameras, display algorithms which adapt to ambient light, in-camera processing, rendering engines for video games and video post-processing. We propose a viable solution for these applications by designing a video tone-mapping operator that controls the visibility of the noise, adapts to display and viewing environment, minimizes contrast distortions, preserves or enhances image details, and can be run in real-time on an incoming sequence without any pre-processing. To our knowledge, no existing solution offers all these features. Our novel contributions are...

Microsoft Computer Vision Summer School 2011. Talk by Vincent Lepetit about real-time computer vision algorithms, part1.
Static spectrum allocation has resulted in low spectrum efficiency in licensed bands and poor performance of radio devices in crowded unlicensed bands. To remedy these problems, we have been exploring ways of exploiting the concept of spectrum
Microsoft Computer Vision Summer School 2011. Talk by Vincent Lepetit about real-time computer vision algorithms, part 2.
The essence of near-real-time stream processing is to compute huge volumes of data as it is received. This talk will focus on creating a pipeline for collecting huge volumes of data using Kafka and processing for near-real time computations using Storm.

Lost in your eyes this betrayal it consumes me makes
Me blind to all the times i've been let down
Now with these thoughts i hide away in my world
From your apathy it's killing me, it's forever
Can't you see the walls are falling down on me
They're closing in can't breathe and life itself
Is killing me one more life, i'll waste it why can't
You help me through this please give me, one more
Chance and i'll get it right i sweat it
Thoughts of the past drown in my mind, real time
Seems so far how could i not see this through
So leave me behind for the times that i left you
