My mom had some very close friends there and we would stay with them often when we were visiting the NYC. They lived in Greenwich, a beautiful town, with lots of money, big houses, lush green forests and windy roads. Coming from a small middle class city in Maine I was always taken back by Greenwich and an impression of what I thought Connecticut was had been permanently imprinted on my brain, that was until I ventured out to explore for my project. My first stop was Bridgeport Connecticut, a far cry from the luxuries of Greenwich, most of Bridgeport had seemed to have fallen into disrepair. Once a bustling industrial town Bridgeport seemed to be struggling for any traction to get back on it's feet, a trend I've seen repeated over and over again. It was here in Bridgeport I found the Remington Electric Shaver Plant, a sprawling factory complex all for me to explore. Although it was huge, most of the machinery had been removed and a lot of the complex consisted of employ warehouse space. There were a number of areas that could make for some pretty awesome photos for my project, but I was excited to see what else Bridgeport had to offer. My next stop was a place I have come to know as the Bridgeport Brass Company. I never felt a hundred percent sure they did a lot of brass work in a building like this but my research kept bringing me back to this place with the name Bridgeport Brass so I went with it. Anyway I didn't think this place was gong to be all that exciting, but I found some really awesome scenes for my project here. There had been many games of paintball played here, gobs and gobs of paint splattered and crusted all over the walls, adding the extra texture I love so much. In the end I found a lot more to work with here than I had expected and found it to be a real contender. Lastly I came across an old recycling plant in Stratford Connecticut. This place was massive and I was really excited to check it out. I love industrial decay and this place was sure to be full of it, and it was! However there were a few problems that came up as I explored. It was very dark on the main floor where all the equipment was, and it's my preference to use natural light. It was also filthy, and not the dry, 5 second rule kinds of filthy, more of an wet, oily filth you can never really get off you skin. Its something I have to consider when working with nude models. So the decision was tough, each place had a lot to offer and each place had its draw back, but one place kept standing out in my mind, that was the Bridgeport Brass building. I was very fortunate to get linked up with Haylan Victoria, a very beautiful and talented model out of Hartford. She was amazing and down to get the job done, I couldn't have asked for a better combination for the Connecticut photo shoot!
