Joe Berlinger
Joseph "Joe" Berlinger (born October 30, 1961) is an American documentary film-maker.
Career
In collaboration with Bruce Sinofsky, has created such films as Paradise Lost about the West Memphis 3, Brother's Keeper, Some Kind of Monster, Crude and Whitey: United States of America v. James J. Bulger.
Berlinger is best known for the Paradise Lost Trilogy, a series of three feature length documentary films shot over two decades that led to the release of the West Memphis Three after 18-plus years of wrongful conviction. Although Berlinger primarily is known for documentaries, he has made a number of films, such as Blair Witch 2. Berlinger's original plan for the film was more of a psychological thriller and mystery that was intended to cause the viewer to question whether or not the characters in the film were insane, hysterical with hype or truly possessed, and to blur the distinction between fiction and reality. However, prior to the film's release, the studio, Artisan, was not confident in the film's subtle approach, and forced Berlinger to add a number of random scenes of violence into the film, which is one of its biggest criticisms. Indeed, Berlinger's original version of the film was held in a much higher regard for being more complex and intelligent.

Whitey Bulger
James Joseph "Whitey" Bulger, Jr. (born September 3, 1929) is an American convicted murderer and a former organized crime boss of the Boston Irish Mob crew known as the Winter Hill Gang. United States federal prosecutors indicted Bulger for 19 murders based on grand jury testimony from Kevin Weeks's former associates. Bulger is the brother of William "Billy" Bulger, former President of the Massachusetts Senate.
Bulger served as an informant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) beginning in 1975, according to the FBI. Bulger denies this. However, as a result, the Bureau largely ignored his organization in exchange for information about the inner workings of the rival of the Winter Hill Gang and the Flanagan Gang, the Italian American Patriarca crime family. Beginning in 1997, the New England media exposed criminal actions by federal, state, and local law enforcement officials tied to Bulger. For the FBI especially, this caused great embarrassment. Bulger fled Boston and went into hiding on December 23, 1994, after being tipped off by his former FBI handler about a pending indictment under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO). For 16 years, he remained at large. For 12 of those years, Bulger was on the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.

The Venice Film Festival is the oldest major festival. The Melbourne International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the oldest in the world. A 2013 study found 3,000 active films festivals worldwide—active defined as having held an event in the previous 24 months.
