Poema (musical group)
Poema is an American acoustic singer-songwriter duo from Albuquerque, New Mexico. The group, was formerly signed with Tooth & Nail Records and has released two EPs and a full-length album with them.
History
Elle and Shealeen Puckett, sisters born and raised in the American Southwest, comprise the band Poema. The female duo has been playing music ever since they can remember. At ten and twelve, the equal and opposites would walk to the local gas station to play Elvis covers for anyone filling up that day until they made enough money to buy candy. They were surrounded by music their entire lives, starting with their parents being in bands to playing music since pre-adolescence. The sisters never planned to be professional musicians until an extremely positive reception following a benefit show in 2008 in their hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico. After pondering shortly after the show, the sisters formed Poema, won a "Battle of the Bands" competition and recorded two demos.

Ney Matogrosso
Ney de Sousa Pereira, known as Ney Matogrosso (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈnej matoˈɡɾosu]; born August 1, 1941, in Bela Vista, Mato Grosso do Sul), is a Brazilian singer who is distinguished for his uncommon countertenor voice. He was ranked by Rolling Stone as the third greatest Brazilian singer of all time, and by the same magazine as the 31st greatest Brazilian music artist of all time.
Biography
Matogrosso enlisted in the Brazilian Air Force at the age of 17, being later transferred to Brasília. Within a few years, Matogrosso started singing in a vocal quartet, performing at college festivals throughout Brazil. With the hope of becoming a stage actor, Ney moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1966, where he lived as a hippie and made ends meet by selling arts and crafts. In 1971, he moved to São Paulo, adopting the artistic name Ney Matogrosso, and joined the glam rock group Secos & Molhados, which in less than 18 months became a phenomenon, selling 1 million records. Endowed with a unique counter-tenor voice and a striking stage presence, Ney’s career soared.

we can highlight the First Prize of the National Composition Contest "Guarnieri" (2005), with the opening Symphony "Brasilia," for orchestra. This work was recently published by the Brazilian Academy of Music and had its premiere at the Sala São Paulo by
OSUSP. In September 2007, he started his PhD in Music - Composition at City University, London, with a scholarship from
CAPES/MEC, conducting research on Contemporary Opera under the supervision of Professor Rhian Samuel. He has served as
Visiting Lecturer for Composition classes at that Institution. His latest compositions have been performed at City University, St.
Luke's LSO (Barbican Centre), Royal Festival Hall, St. James' Church Piccadilly, London Warehouse, Korzo Theatre (The Hague),
Sala Cecilia Meirelles (Rio de Janeiro), Royal Academy of Music, by musicians of Trinity College, the symphony orchestras of
London and City University, London Sinfonietta, The Nieuw Ensemble of Amsterdam, The Contemporaneous (USA), among
others.
Mario started using the guitar in his works in 2008, in two chamber works composed for the Nieuw Ensemble of Amsterdam: the
first was Vitral, to a big set of instruments, followed by Yard, for flute and guitar. In Yard he has begun to explore more expressive
technical resources that the guitar could provide, and to follow a way just a few composers are willing to: to really get to know the
guitar, its resources, its limits, and finally, the expressive essence of the instrument. However, for composers who are not
guitarists, such knowledge can only come after much research, listening, analysis of major works, and that's what Mario Ferraro
did, composing shortly after with the Pequena Suite Candanga, for the 50 years of Brasilia.
Inspired by the new expressive discoveries, Poema Torto (Tortuous Poem) was composed, dedicated to Fabrício Mattos, and Mario Ferraro here attests his knowledge on the guitar, experimenting and taking risks to compose passages of extreme technical difficulty and great musical result. The work already starts boldly, mischaracterizing the sound of the guitar, and forming a texture of percussive possibilities, which slowly becomes the natural sound of the guitar. The percussion in its many forms remains a constant structural element throughout the piece, with a strong allusion to berimbau, an instrument of African origin used in capoeira dance.
Mario brings in this work a mixture of musical experiences: it is music that stands for asymmetry in its phrases and periods (as the
title already mentioned), but in a carefully structure symmetrically arranged; and the harmony and counterpoint are used in a very
personal and sometimes surprising way. It is a work that offers great musical and technical challenges, exploring the guitar in much of its expressive possibilities, and that contains specific characteristics of Ferraro’s creative work.

Grantchester Meadows is a Roger Waters song, originally performed solo on the ‘Ummagumma’ album, that celebrates the English countryside, as in other compositions such as ‘Time’. This special group performance, taped for the BBC, with acoustic guitars and vocals from Roger Waters and David Gilmour, plus additional piano from Richard Wright and taped songbirds, successfully evokes a summer’s day in Grantchester, a small village close to Cambridge, England. Grantchester’s famous former residents include the Edwardian poet Rupert Brooke, who moved there and subsequently wrote a poem of homesickness entitled ‘The Old Vicarage, Grantchester’. Taken from ‘The Early Years 1965 – 1972’.

Jazz guitarist, composer and arranger André Condouant, respected by the Americans, well-known also in Europe, was born in Guadeloupe (French West Indies) September 6, 1935. He started performing in 1949 in Guadeloupe as a double-bass player and drummer with local orchestras like the BRUNEL AVERNE ORCHESTRA (EL CALDERON), EL CALZADO and the ROBERT MAVOUNZY ORCHESTRA, with the latter he toured through Indonesia. After moving to Paris in 1957, he had his first engagement as a bass player at 'La Cigale' with the ALBERT LIRVAT ORCHESTRA, where he met American musicians like BART TAYLOR and ERROLL GARNER and entered into the world of Jazz. During their engagement at the 'Crazy Horse Saloon', he changed from bass to guitar.
In 1959 André toured Africa, again with AL LIRVAT and with BENNY BENNETT´s Latin dance-orchestra he toured through Tunisia. Back in Paris in 1960, he met ROBERT MAVOUNZY and AL LIRVAT again, playing at the 'Olympia' in JOSEPHINE BAKER´s revue 'Paris Mes Amour'. Towards 1962 André went to Stockholm with GÉRARD LAVIGNY, where he met IDREES SULIEMAN and LEO WRIGHT (former flutist and saxophonist of Dizzy Gillespie). Leo offered him to join his band for a tour to Czechoslovakia (playing at the first Jazz-Festival Prague) and Germany in 1964. From his homebase in Berlin, André toured through Europe with the LEO WRIGHT QUARTET and the LOU BENNETT TRIO during the following years. In 1970 he performed at the Barcelona Jazz Festival with SLIDE HAMPTON and ART TAYLOR and also played concerts with MEMPHIS SLIM, JOHN LEE HOOKER and ROOSEVELT SYKES.
Shortly after recording his first solo album 'Brother Meeting' in Paris in 1970, he toured Canada with MARIUS CULTIER, meeting FREDDIE HUBBARD. After longer stays in Montreal, Guadeloupe and Martinique he went back to Paris again in 1978, playing concerts with RHODA SCOTT. Between 1979 and 1984 André worked with his own band, the ANDRÉ CONDOUANT QUARTET, featuring: ALAIN JEAN-MARIE, GEORGE BROWN and ALBY CULLAZ, playing concerts in clubs in Paris and through France. During the next years André played concerts and performed at several Jazz Festivals in the West Indies (with AL LIRVAT, FREDDIE HUBBARD and STANLEY TURRENTINE). Between 1992 and 1994 he played concerts at the 'Petit Opportun' in Paris and at 'La Cave on First' in New York City.

With his album 'Clean And Class', recorded in 1997 with pianist ALAIN JEAN-MARIE, he returned to classical Jazz. His latest album, entitled 'Gospel Swing', with JOCELYN MÉNARD (sax) on two tracks, was recorded for a local church in 2002. For the label Disque Celiny André achieved arrangements for IBO SIMON, and he directed the orchestra on SIMONE PAULIN´s first album. His compostions have been recorded by other (not only Jazz-) musicians, for example by AL LIRVAT and Caribbean singers KLOD FOSTIN and TANYA SAINT-VAL.
At the International Guitar Festival in Martinique in 1985, André was honored with the special composition award by SACEM & CMAC, in March 2002 he was honored by SACEM for his lifetime-achievements. His private life is as eventful as his musical one: André has been living in Paris, Sweden, Montreal and Berlin for several years, he is married for the third time and has a daughter and two sons. Between 1988 and 2000 André has taught music at a private music school in Guadeloupe, where he still lives and works.

The act of mixing genres, once regarded as blasphemy, has become really common nowadays. Two styles of music used particularly often in such a fusion of different worlds are folk and metal. One could describe Uaral (to knowledge pronounced as oo-areál) as a folk metal band. Could, but should not. The Chilean duo has a very unique style far off the cliche of adding folk melodies to death or power metal. Their style is more acoustic doom.
The first characteristic of their music you might notice could be, that they add extreme vocal styles (death-metal growls and black metal screams) to mostly acoustic music. Calling it "folk" would definitely be a downplay, since they masterfully blend Chilean and Spanish folklore with "latin" music and neoclassicism. In contrast to most neofolk projects, Uaral's music is rhythmically interesting due to the use of triplets, syncopation, rubato playing and rhythmic displacement. Also, they manege to create a symbiosis of acoustic music and extreme vocals without sounding out of place or having the ridiculousness of "acoustic black metal".
"Lamentos a Poema Muerto" is their second full length album and the first to be released through "Octagon Music Group" in 2007. It features 7 tracks, 6 out of which was actual compositions and 3 of whom were released previously on demo ep's.

For many this album may seem short, with "only" 44 minutes of playing time, yet it is very intense. So intense even, that any prolongation would water it down or feel unnecessary. On a scale from 1 to 100, this album is a solid 92 because of its atmosphere, melodies and arrangements as well as the instrumental and vocal mastery.

Be concerned about doing good work and protect your work." The American singer, poet and photographer Patti Smith (b. 1946) is a living punk rock legend. “When people say fuckin‘ shit, they don‘t think of a big turd, or two people makin‘ it anymore” - Patti Smith in May 1976, as told to Mick Gold In the spring of 1976, Patti Smith made her debut in London. She wasn't even 30, yet. We're going inside her hotel, the Portobello, a Bohemian place popular with the fashion biz and musicians. Several journalists are inside the room asking Patti questions. For nearly two hours Patti holds court on her love of the French poet Rimbuad that spawned her creative path while still a young woman in New Jersey, her publicized relationship with Bob Dylan once she arrived on the scene, and her ability to dip into her unconscious pretty much anytime she wanted to. Grantchester Meadows is a Roger Waters song, originally performed solo on the ‘Ummagumma’ album, that celebrates the English countryside, as in other compositions such as ‘Time’. This special group performance, taped for the BBC, with acoustic guitars and vocals from Roger Waters and David Gilmour, plus additional piano from Richard Wright and taped songbirds, successfully evokes a summer’s day in Grantchester, a small village close to Cambridge, England. Grantchester’s famous former residents include the Edwardian poet Rupert Brooke, who moved there and subsequently wrote a poem of homesickness entitled ‘The Old Vicarage, Grantchester’. Grantchester Meadows is a Roger Waters song, originally performed solo on the ‘Ummagumma’ album, that celebrates the English countryside, as in other compositions such as ‘Time’. This special group performance, taped for the BBC, with acoustic guitars and vocals from Roger Waters and David Gilmour, plus additional piano from Richard Wright and taped songbirds, successfully evokes a summer’s day in Grantchester, a small village close to Cambridge, England. Grantchester’s famous former residents include the Edwardian poet Rupert Brooke, who moved there and subsequently wrote a poem of homesickness entitled ‘The Old Vicarage, Grantchester’. Taken from ‘The Early Years 1965 – 1972’.
