Miguel Gonzalez's arm, Tim Anderson's bat lead White Sox over AL-leading Astros

The White Sox are going all 2005 World Series on the Astros.

The Sox trounced the Astros 7-1 on Wednesday night at Guaranteed Rate Field for their second consecutive triumph over the franchise they swept en route to the '05 championship. Miguel Gonzalez was sharp on the mound and Tim Anderson had a big night at the plate to help give the Sox their 10th victory in the last 14 meetings between the teams dating back to 2015.

Gonzalez pitched eight strong innings for the Sox while Anderson went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Nicky Delmonico added three hits and two runs scored and Yolmer Sanchez and Leury Garcia each knocked in two.

The Sox battered Astros starter Collin McHugh for seven runs in the right-hander's 5 1/3 innings of work. Gonzalez allowed one run on five hits while walking one and striking out four to up his record to 6-10.

"Our offense, defense, everything was going the way we want it," said Gonzalez, who earned his 50th career victory. "It was a great game overall."

Derek Fisher ended Gonzalez's shutout bid with a homer in the top of the eighth for the Astros.

The Sox improved to 43-68 on the season and are one victory away from completing their second series sweep of a team this season — they managed that feat April 24-26 against the Royals.

"It's great to have these two victories here," Sox manager Rick Renteria said. "They have been few and far between but it hasn't been because (our players) haven't tried. These last two games have been pretty clean for us."

Name game: Major League Baseball revealed the jerseys players will wear during Players Weekend on Aug. 25-27. Players were allowed to choose what nicknames would appear on the back and the Sox came up with some unique ones, including "Yo Yo" for Yoan Moncada, "El Meteorico" for Gregory Infante, "Mal Tiempo" for Jose Abreu, "Szmydth" for Kevan Smith, "Dutch" for Derek Holland, "Big Pelf" for Mike Pelfrey and "Los" for Carlos Rodon.

Anderson will have "B Moss" on his jersey to honor his close friend, Branden Moss, who was shot and killed in Alabama in May.

Minor move: The Sox acquired right-handed pitcher Steve Johnson from the Orioles in exchange for cash considerations. The 29-year-old Johnson, who went 1-2 with a 5.30 ERA in 19 games with Triple-A Norfolk this season, will report to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.
