Germany (/ˈdʒɜːrməni/; German: Deutschland [ˈdɔʏtʃlant]), officially the Federal Republic of Germany (German: Bundesrepublik Deutschland, listen ), is a federal parliamentary republic in West-Central Europe. It includes 16 constituent states and covers an area of 357,021 square kilometres (137,847 sq mi) with a largely temperate seasonal climate. Its capital and largest city is Berlin. With about 81.5 million inhabitants, Germany is the most populous member state in the European Union. After the United States, it is the second most popular migration destination in the world.
Various Germanic tribes have occupied northern Germany since classical antiquity. A region named Germania was documented before 100 AD. During the Migration Period the Germanic tribes expanded southward. Beginning in the 10th century, German territories formed a central part of the Holy Roman Empire. During the 16th century, northern German regions became the centre of the Protestant Reformation.

Black and German: news anchor Jana Pareigis has spent her entire life being asked about her skin color. What is it like to be black in Germany? What needs to change? “Where are you from?” Afro-German journalist Jana Pareigis has heard that question since her early childhood. And she’s not alone. Black people have been living in Germany for around 400 years, and today there are an estimated one million Germans with dark skin. But they still get asked the latently racist question, "Where are you from?” Jana Pareigis is familiar with the undercurrents of racism in the western world. When she was a child, the Afro-German TV presenter also thought her skin color was a disadvantage. "When I was young, I wanted to be white,” she says. With Congress back in session, debate over reforming the American health care system is once again in full swing. Supporters of universal health care want the U.S. system to be more like those in Europe, with the government taking an active role to guarantee coverage for everyone. Those who oppose drastic changes in the U.S. system say greater government involvement and universal coverage guarantees will push the U.S. toward socialism. Germans have the oldest universal health care system in Europe - its origins go back more than a century - and they are generally pleased with the care they receive. Is there a lesson there for America? VOA's Sonja Pace reports from the German capital, Berlin.

--- Important --- This video is not supposed to be a toplist - there is no correct order of the stackers. This is a video I liked when I first got included into tobiassteglichs Video. I wanted to do one aswell here is the result. The only part I am not happy about is the picture thing in the beginning. The pictures look pretty bad in my opinion(qualitywise). There are some german stackers I missed - for a simple reason. I wanted to take stackers who are 100% stacking currently and going to tournaments. I took their best times with a good quality and here we go! This is enough for a description and that´s all I had to say. Hope you enjoy the video :) Song: Unison - Aperture

Welcome to Berlin, the capital city of Germany. The first documentation of Berlin appears in the 13th century, and it has a long history of importance—it’s been the capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg and the Kingdom of Prussia, among others. The lengthy history encompassing the city often manifests in its eclectic collection of architecture, which you should certainly include on your Berlin tour. From the towering classical lines of Charlottenburg Palace, built for the Hohenzollern family in the 17th century, to the sleek mirrored sides of the Bahn Tower, you’re bound to find plenty to look at in the city’s downtown area. Fancy a real German lager? Stop by Prater Garten for a brew—built in 1837, it’s one of the handful of buildings that has survived both World Wars. You can sit ou...

Germany is situated in the middle of Europe and is a land of diverse culture and tradition, from Bavarian homeliness in the south, and mediaeval splendour within its centre, to its flourishing lifestyle in the east and large commercial cities in the north, it is a country which extends from the Alps to the North Sea. The episcopal city of Passau nestles between hills at the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz. High above the rivers and strategically perched on a rock is the castle complex of Veste Oberhaus, imposing and impregnable. The salt trade enriched the town and Italian baroque masters were allowed to create the cityscape of the historic old town. Beginning in Würzburg On The Main, the Romantic Road leads to various well known historic cit...

In Munich, where locals specialize in good living, we visit boisterous markets and go-for-Baroque palaces, while office workers surf in the Isar River. Heading into the foothills of the Alps, we tour the fairy-tale castles of "Mad" King Ludwig, and climb to the highest point in Germany atop the Zugspitze. Then we cross into Tirol to conquer a desolate ruined castle. © 2002 Rick Steves' Europe
License Video: dissolve.com/products?media_type=video&producer;=Pete+R&sort;_by_date=true Last month, I went to Germany alone. I entered the country as lonely as a solo traveler could be. I ate alone, drank alone, and walked alone. But along the way, I met people, made new friends and rekindled old ones. By the time I left the country, I was no longer alone. I had the opportunity to be hosted by several German friends around the country, I partied with them, drink with them, and hung out with them. I experienced the alternative culture in Berlin. I lost my bag in Cologne (http://blog.bucketlistly.com/post/132467427542/bag-stolen-germany-cologne). I celebrated my Birthday with a Pool match and a rap battle concert in Dresden. It was a hell of a ride. As the saying goes, "Happiness is onl...

Berlin, the capital of Germany, lies on the banks of the River Spree. The city has an eclectic mix of architectural styles; everything from the modern dome of the Reichstag to that of the old Berlin Cathedral. The Chapel of Reconciliation is the spiritual heart of the Berlin Wall Memorial. The DDR Museum shows what life was like in East Germany during Socialist rule. Checkpoint Charlie was the Cold War's most famous border crossing; today the adjacent museum describes the clever ways in which Berliners defected from East to West. Berlin's East Side Gallery is one of the largest outdoor art exhibits in the world. The Holocaust Memorial serves as a poignant reminder of World War II. Rolling out before the Brandenburg Gate are the lawns and canals of the Tiergarten. Highlight here inclu...

As students of the Köln International School of Design (Cologne, Germany) we recognized that many incoming students enjoy studying here, but often it takes a while to find the exciting things the city has to offer. By the end of the semester, when they leave again, they often just settled in and found their favorite spots. We wanted to change thi...

If you have done an exchange to Germany (or anywhere really) and developed a culture related habit, tell us about it in the comments. Content Clarifications: #6 - Yes, Tomato is a fruit. Duly noted, I misspoke in the video, my bad. #8 - Huge emphasis on the word "Arbitrary" in regards to German "small-talk." By this, I mean topics that don't really have much weight to them, such as a discussion about the weather. Cruising the Rhine River, we dodge riverboat traffic and the legendary Lorelei. After climbing castles and descending into dungeons, we relax with Rhine wine. We tour Burg Eltz — a lived-in castle where the noble lady still puts out fresh flowers. Then we enter the walled town of Rothenburg for Germany's best wood carving, a vivid dose of medieval punishment, and a tour with the night watchman of the town's lamp-lit ramparts. © 2002 Rick Steves' Europe

Well I thought...
That I meant something to you
But now I see that it's untrue
I guess you must have slept
With every guy you ever met
But I'm gonna get you back
If its the last thing I ever do
The stains on your mattress cannot hide
The fruits of your labor stuffed inside
But, while your in la-la land
Whispering the name of another man
I'm gonna turn my back
And leave your cheating ass behind
I'm gonna run away with your money
And buy a ticket to Germany
I'm gonna sleep with every single slut on the River Bohn
And I'll be surfing down the River Rhine (Whoo--oo--ooo)
And you'll be standing in the Welfare line
You're money and you're honey
Are long gone!
It's nothing personal
You saw to that
You're just a person
Who does her best work on her back
But if you're 'wakend
By an obscene call
I sprayed your number on the Berlin wall
I've seen the soldiers as they pass it all around
Imagine all the dick that you once missed
Because you couldn't find the Communists
East or West
Your still the best deal in town
I'm gonna run away with your money
And buy a ticket to Germany
I'm gonna sleep with every single slut on the River Bohn
And I'll be surfing down the River Rhine (Whoo--oo--ooo)
And you'll be standing in the Welfare line
You're money and you're honey
Are long gone!
You're money and you're honey
Are long gone!
