Donald Christopher 'Chris' Barber (born 17 April 1930) is a British jazz musician, best known as a bandleader and trombonist. As well as scoring a UK top twenty trad jazz hit, he helped the careers of many musicians, notably the blues singer Ottilie Patterson, who was at one time his wife, and vocalist/banjoist Lonnie Donegan, whose appearances with Barber triggered the skiffle craze of the mid-1950s and who had his first transatlantic hit, "Rock Island Line", while with Chris Barber's band. His providing an audience for Donegan and, later, Alexis Korner makes Barber a significant figure in the British rhythm and blues and "beat boom" of the 1960s.
Barber was born in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, the son of a statistician father and headmistress mother. He was educated at Hanley Castle Grammar School, Malvern, Worcestershire, to the age of 15, then St Paul's School in London and the Guildhall School of Music.
Barber and Monty Sunshine (clarinet) formed a band in 1953, calling it Ken Colyer's Jazzmen to capitalise on their trumpeter's recent escapades in New Orleans: the group also included Donegan, Jim Bray (bass), Ron Bowden (drums) and Barber on trombone. The band played Dixieland jazz, and later ragtime, swing, blues and R&B. Pat Halcox took over on trumpet in 1954 when Colyer moved on after musical differences and the band became "The Chris Barber Band".
Duke of Burgundy (Fr.: duc de Bourgogne) was a title borne by the rulers of the Duchy of Burgundy, a small portion of traditional lands of Burgundians west of river Saône which in 843 was allotted to Charles the Bald's kingdom of West Franks. Under the Ancien Régime, the Duke of Burgundy was the premier lay peer of the kingdom of France.
Beginning with Robert II of France, the title was held by the Capetians, the French royal family. It was granted to Robert's younger son, Robert, who founded the House of Burgundy. When the senior line of the House of Burgundy became extinct, it was inherited by John II of France through proximity of blood. John granted the duchy as an appanage for his younger son, Philip the Bold. The Valois Dukes of Burgundy became dangerous rivals to the senior line of the House of Valois. When the male line of the Valois Dukes of Burgundy became extinct, it was confiscated by Louis XI of France.
Today, the title is used by the House of Bourbon as a revived courtesy title.
Burgundy (French: Bourgogne, IPA: [buÊ?.ɡɔɲ]) is a historical territory and a former administrative region of east-central France. Since 1 January 2016, it is part of the new region Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Burgundy comprises the following four departments: Côte-d'Or, Saône-et-Loire, Yonne and Nièvre.
Historically, "Burgundy" has referred to numerous political entities, including kingdoms and duchies spanning territory from the Mediterranean to the Low Countries.
Burgundy takes its name from the Burgundians, a Germanic people.
Burgundy was inhabited in turn by Celts, Romans (Gallo-Romans), and in the 4th century, the Romans who were then allied with the Burgundians, a Germanic people possibly originating in Bornholm (Baltic Sea), who settled there and established their own kingdom. However, Agathias identifies Burgunds (ΒουÏ?ουγουνδοι) and Ultizurs as Bulgaric people of Hunnic circle tribes, near relatives of Cotrigurs and Utigurs. This Burgundian kingdom was conquered in the 6th century by another Germanic tribe, the Franks, who continued the kingdom of Burgundy under their own rule.
A Duke or Grand Duke is a title of nobility for aristocrats of very high rank.

The Duke of Burgundy is a 2014 British drama film written and directed by Peter Strickland, and starring Sidse Babett Knudsen and Chiara D'Anna.
The film was screened at various film festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival, the London Film Festival, and the International Film Festival Rotterdam, to positive critical reviews.
Evelyn is studying lepidopterology under the older Cynthia, who frequently lectures on her studies. Evelyn is romantically involved with Cynthia and works as a maid in her home, where she is subject to strict behavioural expectations and high standards for cleanliness. When Evelyn does not complete tasks to Cynthia's satisfaction, she is punished.
As Cynthia increasingly falters in her dominance, it becomes apparent that Evelyn is orchestrating Cynthia's role in the relationship by writing instructions and scripts for specific scenes, which the couple acts out in the same way each day. While Evelyn finds the scenes to be sexually exciting, Cynthia only acts them out to sate her lover. She attempts to please Evelyn by ordering a carpenter to construct a bed with a drawer underneath for Evelyn to sleep in as a punishment; however, Evelyn is unhappy with the length of time it will take to produce the bed, and ultimately refuses the gift.

Cecily Neville, one of the prominent, but forgotten queens of England. Today we celebrate her 601st birthday and on this very occasion I wanted to make a video ilustrating her not only as a great lady, but also a woman with all her weaknesses. She was born in Raby Castle, and for this reason and her beauty, she was later called "the Rose of Raby". She was married to Richard, the duke of York, at the age of 14, who was a great-grandson to king Edward III. Since that point Cecily understood the role she would have to play in the line of succession, also sue to her own background (her mother, Joan Beaufort, was daughter to John of Gaunt, from whom decended the two Plantagenet dynasty lines: the Yorkist and the Lancastrians). She gave birth to ca. 13 children, of which 7 survived infancy - A...

FULL INTERVIEW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1d6b2pmVuig Peter Strickland's small resume has been a fascinating one. The man fearlessly explores the nooks and crannies of filmmaking few have the guts to admit, such as Cinema of Transgression, Giallo, Avant Garde, and sprinkles in influence from noise music, namely, Nurse with Wound. However, his films bring more than just a visit to those days of experimental film. Strickland mixes stark imagery, grating sound, and at times, space and beauty to tell stories that grasp the inner-most emotions. Hey, let's be buds @CinemanSteve or Facebook.com/CinemanSteve

This eight foot long document was written by the Jean Chousat, the receiver general of finances to Duke Philip the Bold. It accounts the items bought and services rendered for the funeral procession of Duke Philip the Bold of Burgundy, which took place in 1404. The body of the Duke was embalmed and placed in a 700lb. lead coffin. This itself was placed on a chariot and pulled by six horses. This chariot was followed by 60 torchbearers wearing black mourning attire and bearing the arms of the Duke, as well as members of the Duke's family, household, retainers and allies. This ensemble took a journey of c. 520 km as the crow flies. It first went from Halle to Douay, passing through several towns in the low countries. After resting for ten days in Douay, it headed to Dijon. Arriving at Sain...

Margaret of Burgundy was Duchess of Bavaria as the wife of Duke William II.Margaret was the third child and first daughter out of nine children born to Philip II, Duke of Burgundy, and Margaret III, Countess of Flanders.Margaret's father used the marriages of his children to achieve far-sighted goals. In keeping with this strategy, Margaret and her brother John were wedded in a double marriage to William of Bavaria and his sister Margaret. ---Image-Copyright-and-Permission--- About the author(s): Anonymous License: Public domain ---Image-Copyright-and-Permission--- This channel is dedicated to make Wikipedia, one of the biggest knowledge databases in the world available to people with limited vision. Chris Barber: Jeep's Blues / Strange Things Are Happening Every Day (with Ottilie Patterson) This is a recording I made in 1958 from the live broadcast of a trad concert. The BBC had started FM (mono) transmissions only a year or two before and it was probably a while before line-of-sight transmitters reached the far west of Cornwall, where I lived, arriving not long before this recording was made. There were several bands in the concert and I think Chris Barber had the concluding spot.

I created this video for the Epsom & Ewell U3A Classic Jazz Group meeting in July 2012 from clips on YouTube of Acker Bilk, Humphrey Lyttleton, Chris Barber and Kenny Ball to illustrate the sound of the popular jazz music of the decade. The essentials were a front line of trumpet or cornet, clarinet and trombone, and a rhythm section consisting of banjo, string double bass, and drums, or traps as they sometimes named them. Acker and Kenny Ball also used a piano, whereas Chris Barber rarely had one. Saxes and guitars were generally disliked, to the extent that many people would show their anger if either were produced. Fortunately, these days we now prepared to tolerate a wider range of instruments, even the flugle horn, violin, flute and penny whistle, as long as the musicians don't push t...
