Betty Cuthbert, 1938-2017

Betty Cuthbert (1938-2017) was an Australian athlete and an Olympic champion. She set world records in the 60 metres, the 100 yards, 200 metres, 220 yards and 440 yards, becoming known as Australia's "Golden Girl".

Betty Cuthbert competed at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games, the 1960 Rome Olympic Games and the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. She was also one of four female, champion Australian athletes to carry the Olympic torch through Olympic Stadium to the cauldron in the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympic Games.
