Chilean people are natives of and long-term immigrants to Chile. Chileans are mainly of Spanish, and Amerindian descent with small, albeit important, degrees of 19th- and 20th-century European immigrant ancestry. There is a strong correlation between Chilean people's ancestry or ethnicity and socioeconomic situation: a marked continuum exist between the lower classes of high Amerindian ancestry and the upper classes of mainly European ancestry. Indigenous inheritance (cultural or genetic) is most visible in rural areas and in aspects of culture such as Chilean cuisine and Chilean Spanish. Although post-independence immigrants never made up more than 2% of the population, there are now hundreds of thousands of Chileans with German, British, French, Croatian, Italian or Palestinian ancestry.
Though the majority of Chileans reside in Chile, significant communities have been established in multiple countries, most noticeably Argentina and the United States. Other large Chilean communities are in Australia, Canada and Sweden. Although small in number Chilean people make up a substantial part of the permanent population of Antarctica and the Falkland Islands (see: Chileans in the Falkland Islands).
Chilean Spanish (Spanish: español chileno, español de Chile or castellano de Chile) is any of several varieties of Spanish spoken in most of Chile. Chilean Spanish dialects have distinctive pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and slang usage that differ from those of standard Spanish.
In Chile, there are not many differences between the Spanish spoken in the northern, central and southern areas of the country, although there are notable differences in zones of the far south—such as Aysén, Magallanes (mainly along the border with Argentina), and Chiloé—and in Arica in the extreme north. There is, however, much variation in the Spanish spoken by different social classes. In rural areas from Santiago to Valdivia, Chilean Spanish shows the historical influence of the Castúo dialects of Extremadura (Spain), but some authors point to the Spanish province of Andalusia and more specifically to the city of Seville as an even greater influence on the historical development of Chilean Spanish.

Chile (/ˈtʃɪli/;Spanish: [ˈtʃile]), officially the Republic of Chile (Spanish: República de Chile ), is a South American country occupying a long, narrow strip of land between the Andes to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. It borders Peru to the north, Bolivia to the northeast, Argentina to the east, and the Drake Passage in the far south. Chilean territory includes the Pacific islands of Juan Fernández, Salas y Gómez, Desventuradas, and Easter Island in Oceania. Chile also claims about 1,250,000 square kilometres (480,000 sq mi) of Antarctica, although all claims are suspended under the Antarctic Treaty.
The arid Atacama Desert in northern Chile contains great mineral wealth, principally copper. The relatively small central area dominates in terms of population and agricultural resources, and is the cultural and political center from which Chile expanded in the late 19th century when it incorporated its northern and southern regions. Southern Chile is rich in forests and grazing lands, and features a string of volcanoes and lakes. The southern coast is a labyrinth of fjords, inlets, canals, twisting peninsulas, and islands.
There must be few countries in the world which are so conditioned by their territory as Chile. Its awesome geography makes it both the longest and narrowest country on the planet; a land of simple, warm, hardworking and creative people, who live enveloped between the mountains and the sea. Its people and its geography, two of Chile's greatest assets. More information at: https://www.thisischile.cl/people/?lang=en

Learning How To Speak Chilean Spanish - Chilean Spanish is one of the harder "versions" or "dialects" of Spanish that we can learn. Every country has a bit different accent and some words that are completely different. There are some words in one country that may mean something very bad in another. In the video I did state that Chilean had the worst Spanish in the entire Spanish kingdom. While some people were offended this is actually the case. The Chileans are great people. Very welcoming and friendly. I was able to live in Chile for 6 months and actually experience the culture which is great. I also am a native Spanish speaker that can explain the subtle differences in each language. When learning how to speak Chilean Spanish keep in mind that the Chileans have quite a bit of sl...

Campaign for the INCLUSION of Afro-descendant people in Chile in response to the discriminatory act that Chile's National Institute of Statistics did to EXCLUDE the Afro-Chilean people in the upcoming 2017 National Census. With this racist act, the Chilean state violates various international treaties with respect to human rights, racism, discrimination, and xenophobia. We thank all those individuals that participated with their images and testimony.
