14. Unsanitary Incidents- A lot of passengers like to remove their shoes when they get to their seat and just relax for the rest of the flight. But the inside of airplanes isn't always as clean as it looks. Even though flight attendants clean after the plane has landed, not all messes are accounted for. Many unsanitary incidents occur during trips that passengers consider or rarely see like unexpected bathroom accidents and sickness. People also change their baby's diapers on the table trays and not every tabletop gets thoroughly wiped between each flight. Plus, the complimentary blankets you receive in the coach’s class are only fresh during the first flight. Afterward, the sheets are folded and reused. Oh and just a head’s up when you go into the lavatory, and you’re just wearing your socks or barefoot, that’s not water you’re stepping in.
13. Decoding Lights- If you’ve ever been on an airplane, you might have noticed pink, yellow and blue lights. They are usually visible inside the cabin, towards the front of the aircraft and make a little ding when the light illuminates. But what does it mean? When the lights chime, it’s an indication for flight attendants that they are needed, and each light means something different. When the light is pink, it says the captain or a fellow flight attendant is calling them. When the yellow light signals on, it indicates a passenger hit the call button while inside the lavatory. If the blue light switches on, it means someone on board needs assistance. On some flights, there is also a green light that could mean a variety of things. It could let flight attendants know when they are near the gate, or it could indicate that the cockpit is off limits because the plane hasn’t reached a certain altitude. But it all varies on the type of aircraft and the carrier.
12. Safety Grab Handles- Next time you’re on board a plan, take a glance of the handles by the door. If you guessed that they were grab handles, you are correct! But why are they there? Well in an emergency situation, filled with chaos and panic the flight attendants are usually found by the exit doors assisting passengers out of the plane. Scared and alarmed passengers who are rushing out of the aircraft have a tendency to push the flight crew out of the way and knock them over all the way down to the slide. So the handles are there as a safety measure for flight attendants to grab on and stay on the plane if that’s what they’re instructed to do.
11. Passenger Code Names- Anything interesting that happens on board will be discussed with the rest of the flight staff. Meaning anything from annoying crying babies to rude passengers will be identified in secrecy and all the other flight attendants will know about it. Flight attendants will give those passengers code names. For example, one code name might be Bob, which stands for boyfriend on board. This is the name given when a flight attendant is attentive to a particular passenger and ensures that he is taken care of throughout the trip. You might hear flight attendants ask about how Bob is doing and how they’re verifying to make sure the relationship is going steadily.
10. All Cargo Aboard- A lot of cargo gets shipped, aside from your luggage there is also dead people in the hold. Some people die abroad and need to be shipped home, or some people are very far from their resting place and are being sent there. The deceased is packed in wood framed boxes so you would never be able to guess its contents, except maybe the strange shape might provide a clue that it’s a body. The deceased is labeled as HR, which means human remains. So if you hear the flight crew mentioning HR while flying Delta, this just means there are human remains in the cargo.However some airlines like Easyjet don’t transfer load, so there won’t be any coffins on the plane.

FAQ :
How old do you have to be to be a flight attendant?
Most major US carriers are 21 years or older. Some smaller airlines are 19 years or older.
What are your flight benefits?
Varies depending on airline. In general, we fly free on most domestic flights/airlines. To fly international, we pay a slight fee plus airport taxes. Most airlines allow you to add your parents, children, and a spouse OR one registered guest (sibling/boyfriend/girlfriend/etc).
What's your schedule?
It varies. A LOT.
What is OPR?
It stands for "On Premise Reserve." When I have OPR, I'm scheduled to sit at the airport for four hours (there are five shifts throughout the day). OPRs are used if a flight attendant/crew needs to be replaced at the last minute (within two hours of a flight's departure). Flight attendants from OPR are also used to start boarding a flight if a flight attendant/crew are running late, but will make it before departure. This prevents the flight from being delayed.
What is a deadhead?
The company flies the flight attendant/crew from one destination to another, but they are not working the flight (i.e. they're passengers but still on duty for the company).
Do you have to pay for the hotel rooms? Do you have to share them?
No and no.
Do you get expense money for layovers?
We do not receive cash in hand when we start a layover. We do, however, receive a minimal hourly per diem (which we do not receive until our next paycheck).
How long are your layovers?
Again, it varies. Could be anywhere from 11 hours to 36 hours.
Which airline do you work for?
A major US carrier. That's all you need to know.
Are there height/weight requirements to be a flight attendant?
Strictly speaking, no. However, you must be able to fit in a jumpseat, escape through an exit window, retrieve items from overhead compartments...you know, perform the basic duties of a flight attendant.
Do you need a degree or any prior experience?
High school degree is required; a college degree is recommended. Prior airline experience is not required. Generally speaking, airlines look for candidates who have prior experience working with people (retail, customer service, banking, nursing, etc)
How long until you fly transatlantic/hold a line/what-have-you?
It varies (are you seeing a pattern here?). This varies greatly depending your airline and where you're based with that airline. It's all about seniority.
Choosing a base + relocation :
You get based where you're needed. If you're lucky, the base you want will have openings. Some people have to wait months until their preferred base is open; in the meantime they are based elsewhere. Most airlines do not help pay for your relocation. They'll usually give you a few days off to move, that's it.

Flight attendant
Flight attendants or cabin crew (also known as stewards/stewardesses, air hosts/hostesses, cabin attendants) are members of an aircrew employed by airlines primarily to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers aboard commercial flights, on select business jet aircraft, and on some military aircraft.
History
The role of a flight attendant derives from that of similar positions on passenger ships or passenger trains, but it has more direct involvement with passengers because of the confined quarters on aircraft. Additionally, the job of a flight attendant revolves around safety to a much greater extent than those of similar staff on other forms of transportation. Flight attendants on board a flight collectively form a cabin crew, as distinguished from pilots and engineers in the cockpit.
Heinrich Kubis was the world's first flight attendant, in 1912.
Origins of the word "steward" in transportation are reflected in the term "chief steward" as used in maritime transport terminology. The term purser and chief steward are often used interchangeably describing personnel with similar duties among seafaring occupations. This lingual derivation results from the international British maritime tradition (i.e. chief mate) dating back to the 14th century and the civilian United States Merchant Marine on which US aviation is somewhat modeled. Due to international conventions and agreements, in which all ships' personnel who sail internationally are similarly documented by their respective countries, the U.S. Merchant Marine assigns such duties to the chief steward in the overall rank and command structure of which pursers are not positionally represented or rostered.

Flight
Flight is the process by which an object moves, through an atmosphere (the air in the case of earth) or beyond it (as in the case of spaceflight) without direct support from any surface. The Flight
The Flight was a Canadian superhero team in the Marvel Comics universe. Their first (and, to date, only) appearance was in Alpha Flight Special vol. 2, #1 (1992).
The Flight was the designation for the Canadian superhero team first formed by Department H. Also founded by James Hudson, this team was inexperienced and taught Hudson the need for a tier system in Department H's use of superhumans. Thus Alpha Flight, Beta Flight, and Gamma Flight were created and developed.
Fictional team history
Inspired by the debut of the Fantastic Four, James MacDonald Hudson refined the purpose of Department H to find and/or develop Canada's superheroes. New recruit Groundhog joins Snowbird, St. Elmo, Stitch, Wolverine (as Weapon X), and Smart Alec in training. Within a week, the Flight is pressed into their first battle with Egghead's Emissaries of Evil. Egghead threatens the United States from Canadian soil with a nuclear missile. Smart Alec disables the missile's guidance system, but Egghead triggers the detonation sequence. Smart Alec panics leading to St. Elmo transforming the missile and the bomb into light. St. Elmo succeeds, but loses himself in the process. Groundhog and Dr. Michael Twoyoungmen scold Hudson for sending the team into battle while so inexperienced, with a near psychotic leader (Weapon X) and someone who folds under pressure. Hudson thus makes plans for a tier team system; while Groundhog leaves Department H. Afterwards Alpha Flight was formed to act as a Canadian superhero team.

Scenic design (also known as scenography, stage design, set design or production design) is the creation of theatrical, as well as film or television scenery. Most major US carriers are 21 years or older. Some smaller airlines are 19 years or older. What are your flight benefits? Varies depending on airline. In general, we fly free on most domestic flights/airlines. To fly international, we pay a slight fee plus airport taxes. Most airlines allow you to add your parents, children, and a spouse OR one registered guest (sibling/boyfriend/girlfriend/etc). What's your schedule? It varies. A LOT. What is OPR? It stands for "On Premise Reserve." When I have OPR, I'm scheduled to sit at the airport for four hours (there are five shifts throughout the day). OPRs are used if a flight attendant/crew needs to be replaced at the last minute (within two hours of a flight's departure). Flight attendants from OPR are also used to start boarding a flight if a flight attendant/crew are running late, but will make it before departure. This prevents the flight from being delayed. What is a deadhead? The company flies the flight attendant/crew from one destination to another, but they are not working the flight (i.e. they're passengers but still on duty for the company). Do you have to pay for the hotel rooms? Do you have to share them? No and no. Do you get expense money for layovers? We do not receive cash in hand when we start a layover. We do, however, receive a minimal hourly per diem (which we do not receive until our next paycheck). How long are your layovers? Again, it varies. Could be anywhere from 11 hours to 36 hours. Which airline do you work for? A major US carrier. That's all you need to know. Are there height/weight requirements to be a flight attendant? Strictly speaking, no. However, you must be able to fit in a jumpseat, escape through an exit window, retrieve items from overhead compartments...you know, perform the basic duties of a flight attendant. Do you need a degree or any prior experience? High school degree is required; a college degree is recommended. Prior airline experience is not required. Generally speaking, airlines look for candidates who have prior experience working with people (retail, customer service, banking, nursing, etc) How long until you fly transatlantic/hold a line/what-have-you? It varies (are you seeing a pattern here?). This varies greatly depending your airline and where you're based with that airline. It's all about seniority. Choosing a base + relocation : You get based where you're needed. If you're lucky, the base you want will have openings. Some people have to wait months until their preferred base is open; in the meantime they are based elsewhere. Most airlines do not help pay for your relocation. People also change their baby's diapers on the table trays and not every tabletop gets thoroughly wiped between each flight. Plus, the complimentary blankets you receive in the coach’s class are only fresh during the first flight. Afterward, the sheets are folded and reused. Oh and just a head’s up when you go into the lavatory, and you’re just wearing your socks or barefoot, that’s not water you’re stepping in.
13. Decoding Lights- If you’ve ever been on an airplane, you might have noticed pink, yellow and blue lights. They are usually visible inside the cabin, towards the front of the aircraft and make a little ding when the light illuminates. But what does it mean? When the lights chime, it’s an indication for flight attendants that they are needed, and each light means something different. When the light is pink, it says the captain or a fellow flight attendant is calling them. When the yellow light signals on, it indicates a passenger hit the call button while inside the lavatory. If the blue light switches on, it means someone on board needs assistance. On some flights, there is also a green light that could mean a variety of things. It could let flight attendants know when they are near the gate, or it could indicate that the cockpit is off limits because the plane hasn’t reached a certain altitude. But it all varies on the type of aircraft and the carrier.
12. Safety Grab Handles- Next time you’re on board a plan, take a glance of the handles by the door. If you guessed that they were grab handles, you are correct! But why are they there? Well in an emergency situation, filled with chaos and panic the flight attendants are usually found by the exit doors assisting passengers out of the plane. Scared and alarmed passengers who are rushing out of the aircraft have a tendency to push the flight crew out of the way and knock them over all the way down to the slide. So the handles are there as a safety measure for flight attendants to grab on and stay on the plane if that’s what they’re instructed to do.
11. Passenger Code Names- Anything interesting that happens on board will be discussed with the rest of the flight staff. Meaning anything from annoying crying babies to rude passengers will be identified in secrecy and all the other flight attendants will know about it. Flight attendants will give those passengers code names. For example, one code name might be Bob, which stands for boyfriend on board. This is the name given when a flight attendant is attentive to a particular passenger and ensures that he is taken care of throughout the trip. You might hear flight attendants ask about how Bob is doing and how they’re verifying to make sure the relationship is going steadily.
10. All Cargo Aboard- A lot of cargo gets shipped, aside from your luggage there is also dead people in the hold. Some people die abroad and need to be shipped home, or some people are very far from their resting place and are being sent there. The deceased is packed in wood framed boxes so you would never be able to guess its contents, except maybe the strange shape might provide a clue that it’s a body. The deceased is labeled as HR, which means human remains. So if you hear the flight crew mentioning HR while flying Delta, this just means there are human remains in the cargo.However some airlines like Easyjet don’t transfer load, so there won’t be any coffins on the plane.

FAQ :
How old do you have to be to be a flight attendant?
Most major US carriers are 21 years or older. Some smaller airlines are 19 years or older.
What are your flight benefits?
Varies depending on airline. In general, we fly free on most domestic flights/airlines. To fly international, we pay a slight fee plus airport taxes. Most airlines allow you to add your parents, children, and a spouse OR one registered guest (sibling/boyfriend/girlfriend/etc).
What's your schedule?
It varies. A LOT.
What is OPR?
It stands for "On Premise Reserve." When I have OPR, I'm scheduled to sit at the airport for four hours (there are five shifts throughout the day). OPRs are used if a flight attendant/crew needs to be replaced at the last minute (within two hours of a flight's departure). Flight attendants from OPR are also used to start boarding a flight if a flight attendant/crew are running late, but will make it before departure. This prevents the flight from being delayed.
What is a deadhead?
The company flies the flight attendant/crew from one destination to another, but they are not working the flight (i.e. they're passengers but still on duty for the company).
Do you have to pay for the hotel rooms? Do you have to share them?
No and no.
Do you get expense money for layovers?
We do not receive cash in hand when we start a layover. We do, however, receive a minimal hourly per diem (which we do not receive until our next paycheck).
How long are your layovers?
Again, it varies. Could be anywhere from 11 hours to 36 hours.
Which airline do you work for?
A major US carrier. That's all you need to know.
Are there height/weight requirements to be a flight attendant?
Strictly speaking, no. However, you must be able to fit in a jumpseat, escape through an exit window, retrieve items from overhead compartments...you know, perform the basic duties of a flight attendant.
Do you need a degree or any prior experience?
High school degree is required; a college degree is recommended. Prior airline experience is not required. Generally speaking, airlines look for candidates who have prior experience working with people (retail, customer service, banking, nursing, etc)
How long until you fly transatlantic/hold a line/what-have-you?
It varies (are you seeing a pattern here?). This varies greatly depending your airline and where you're based with that airline. It's all about seniority.
Choosing a base + relocation :
You get based where you're needed. If you're lucky, the base you want will have openings. Some people have to wait months until their preferred base is open; in the meantime they are based elsewhere. Most airlines do not help pay for your relocation. They'll usually give you a few days off to move, that's it.

Many unsanitary incidents occur during trips that passengers consider or rarely see like unexpected bathroom accidents and sickness. People also change their baby's diapers on the table trays and not every tabletop gets thoroughly wiped between each flight. Plus, the complimentary blankets you receive in the coach’s class are only fresh during the first flight. Afterward, the sheets are folded and reused. Oh and just a head’s up when you go into the lavatory, and you’re just wearing your socks or barefoot, that’s not water you’re stepping in.
13. Decoding Lights- If you’ve ever been on an airplane, you might have noticed pink, yellow and blue lights. They are usually visible inside the cabin, towards the front of the aircraft and make a little ding when the light illuminates. But what does it mean? When the lights chime, it’s an indication for flight attendants that they are needed, and each light means something different. When the light is pink, it says the captain or a fellow flight attendant is calling them. When the yellow light signals on, it indicates a passenger hit the call button while inside the lavatory. If the blue light switches on, it means someone on board needs assistance. On some flights, there is also a green light that could mean a variety of things. It could let flight attendants know when they are near the gate, or it could indicate that the cockpit is off limits because the plane hasn’t reached a certain altitude. But it all varies on the type of aircraft and the carrier.
12. Safety Grab Handles- Next time you’re on board a plan, take a glance of the handles by the door. If you guessed that they were grab handles, you are correct! But why are they there? Well in an emergency situation, filled with chaos and panic the flight attendants are usually found by the exit doors assisting passengers out of the plane. Scared and alarmed passengers who are rushing out of the aircraft have a tendency to push the flight crew out of the way and knock them over all the way down to the slide. So the handles are there as a safety measure for flight attendants to grab on and stay on the plane if that’s what they’re instructed to do.
11. Passenger Code Names- Anything interesting that happens on board will be discussed with the rest of the flight staff. Meaning anything from annoying crying babies to rude passengers will be identified in secrecy and all the other flight attendants will know about it. Flight attendants will give those passengers code names. For example, one code name might be Bob, which stands for boyfriend on board. This is the name given when a flight attendant is attentive to a particular passenger and ensures that he is taken care of throughout the trip. You might hear flight attendants ask about how Bob is doing and how they’re verifying to make sure the relationship is going steadily.
10. All Cargo Aboard- A lot of cargo gets shipped, aside from your luggage there is also dead people in the hold. Some people die abroad and need to be shipped home, or some people are very far from their resting place and are being sent there. The deceased is packed in wood framed boxes so you would never be able to guess its contents, except maybe the strange shape might provide a clue that it’s a body. The deceased is labeled as HR, which means human remains. So if you hear the flight crew mentioning HR while flying Delta, this just means there are human remains in the cargo.However some airlines like Easyjet don’t transfer load, so there won’t be any coffins on the plane.

How old do you have to be to be a flight attendant?
Most major US carriers are 21 years or older. Some smaller airlines are 19 years or older.
What are your flight benefits?
Varies depending on airline. In general, we fly free on most domestic flights/airlines. To fly international, we pay a slight fee plus airport taxes. Most airlines allow you to add your parents, children, and a spouse OR one registered guest (sibling/boyfriend/girlfriend/etc).
What's your schedule?
It varies. A LOT.
What is OPR?
It stands for "On Premise Reserve." When I have OPR, I'm scheduled to sit at the airport for four hours (there are five shifts throughout the day). OPRs are used if a flight attendant/crew needs to be replaced at the last minute (within two hours of a flight's departure). Flight attendants from OPR are also used to start boarding a flight if a flight attendant/crew are running late, but will make it before departure. This prevents the flight from being delayed.
What is a deadhead?
The company flies the flight attendant/crew from one destination to another, but they are not working the flight (i.e. they're passengers but still on duty for the company).
Do you have to pay for the hotel rooms? Do you have to share them?
No and no.
Do you get expense money for layovers?
We do not receive cash in hand when we start a layover. We do, however, receive a minimal hourly per diem (which we do not receive until our next paycheck).
How long are your layovers?
Again, it varies. Could be anywhere from 11 hours to 36 hours.
Which airline do you work for?
A major US carrier. That's all you need to know.
Are there height/weight requirements to be a flight attendant?
Strictly speaking, no. However, you must be able to fit in a jumpseat, escape through an exit window, retrieve items from overhead compartments...you know, perform the basic duties of a flight attendant.
Do you need a degree or any prior experience?
High school degree is required; a college degree is recommended. Prior airline experience is not required. Generally speaking, airlines look for candidates who have prior experience working with people (retail, customer service, banking, nursing, etc)
How long until you fly transatlantic/hold a line/what-have-you?
It varies (are you seeing a pattern here?). This varies greatly depending your airline and where you're based with that airline. It's all about seniority.
Choosing a base + relocation :
You get based where you're needed. If you're lucky, the base you want will have openings. Some people have to wait months until their preferred base is open; in the meantime they are based elsewhere. Most airlines do not help pay for your relocation. They'll usually give you a few days off to move, that's it.
