PROVO — It’s not unusual for BYU to boast two-sport athletes and this year’s football team features tight end Matt Bushman, who also moonlights as a baseball player for the Cougars.
Bushman is on a football scholarship so he spends the vast majority of his time on that sport. The baseball team will hold its annual fall baseball practices soon but, of course, Bushman won’t be able to participate.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound outfielder from Tucson, Arizona, went 0-for-1 in one at-bat last season for BYU.
“It’s a fun sport. I love trying to hit home runs and getting on base,” Bushman said. “I’m trying to juggle both of them. It’s tough at times but we’ll see what I can do in the future.”
Bushman was named all-city and all-state in baseball in 2013 at Sabino High.
SLEEPLESS IN PROVO: BYU defensive coordinator Ilaisa Tuiaki was asked Tuesday — with just a couple of weeks until the season-opener — if there’s anything that keeps him up at night.
Tuiaki didn’t hesitate.
“Clash Royale,” he said, referring to the popular mobile strategy video game.
