Sports car owners are the worst drivers in Australia and the rudest to other road users, edging out SUV drivers, vans and utes in a new survey of driver behaviour.
People behind the wheel of a sports car tied with SUV drivers for the worst road behaviour in a survey of 1000 road users commissioned by Tom Tom Telematics, which also found sports car drivers are the least polite people on the road.
Women were more likely to be offended by sports cars than men, who took more objection to how SUVs are driven.
Results varied between states.
Drivers in South Australia – where police frequently campaign against speeding cars in the Adelaide Hills – were the most likely to concerned by sports car behaviour. Queensland and Victorian motorists were most bothered by SUVs, while trucks earned the ire of NSW drivers and motorcyclists got under the skin of West Australians.
Sedan and small car drivers were generally agreed to be the best behaved and most courteous to fellow road users.
A laundry list of gripes saw drivers who forget to indicate listed as the most common complaint, followed by those who use a mobile phone behind the wheel.
Almost half of the surveyed motorists said a commercial driver had put them into a dangerous position on the road this year, with three-quarters of respondents saying they were less likely to do business with a company whose employees drive recklessly.
Disturbingly, more than 10 per cent of NSW drivers who steer a company car admitted to reckless driving.

Why didn't the survey ask us how much we hate Toyota drivers, responsible for about 50% of the insanity on the roads. The weapon of choice for the terminally incompetent.

Well you can stick this in your pipe and smoke it, I'm happy to say I alternate between my Camry and an XC70 Volvo depending on which mood takes me :-)

Australian drivers seem to hate anyone and everything. You just have to look at the comments on here for validity.

Anyone how complains broadly about drivers of a certain make or model of car instantly expose themselves as being THE problem.

And the definition of a sports car is? I suspect a dozen different people 'contributing' here would each have a different definition to each other. To labour the point, a Golf GTI with its FWD and with sporty pretensions may be considered a sportscar by some, whereas others may consider sportscars can only be RWD, European and where the entry point is a Porsche Boxster. And I agree with you EyeMac.

Yep Toyota drivers are the worst. Blocking up the freeways by driving too slow. Lancruiser and Prado drivers who just have to prove they can go anywhere. Over kerbs and traffic islands etc. The Volvo has been replaced!

The definition needs to be defined more closely. If it is limited to cars such as Porsches, Ferraris, GTRs et al then I have yet to experience the said survey results in over a million kilometres of driving. If it is expanded to include HSVs, FPVs, SS V8s et al then yes, the survey results are pretty damn accurate! As for NSW ire against truck drivers, here is food for thought. These drivers may have been put in a dangerous position by a truck driver in the course of a year's driving but truck drivers are put into a dangerous position by idiot car drivers AT LEAST once EACH AND EVERY day.

SUV drivers who think they are driving sports cars

Don't get sports car drivers confused with bogans. Honestly, real sports car drivers use the track, legally. As pointed out, it is the myriad of wannabees and bogans misbehaving on the roads in overpowered SUVs and V8 Foldens that are problematic.

Q: Do Australians hate sports car drivers? A: Only if your sports car is a bicycle
Maddness | 2017-08-10 23:21:35
I usually drive an SUV and sometimes a sports car. Neither seems to cause any hate. The sports car usually only gets nice comments.

I personally get frustrated when I see 'utes'. More so the cheaper toyota ones. I'm a red P plater driving a 2012 Lancer VRX (quite sporty for this type of car) and even though I can, I don't be a dick while driving but it seems 70% of people driving said utes are crazy and don't respect anyone else... Sorry if you're one of the kinder people driving these automobiles. As for sports cars (as in European and so cars), I've seen hardly any in my small but experienced 50000km of driving but the ones I have seen have been fine and habe fast acceleration which people may find intimidating (??) But the same goes for commodores. I've only seen a few lunatics driving these. (I'm from North Queensland and drive an hour every day to and from Uni)

Do you take your beaten up 90s Camry on the track?

Do you take you trainer wheels off occasionally?

Women were more likely to be offended by sports cars than men Maybe because it's women driving like they are bulletproof in their SUV? Living in rural NSW, women driving SUVs and 4WDs are the scariest things on the road. Sexist? Probably, but certainly consistent out here.

Pretty easy really, the disrespectful wannabe Mick Doohans on high powered motorbikes. They do at least 30km/h over the speed limit everywhere, cut you off, lane split between cars/trucks, don't indicate etc..etc.. These heroes can get away with anything because they can always leave you behind in traffic. Not labelling all bikers many of who ride fine, just the idiots with a death wish. You know who you are.

Do you the other people at the destruction derby know your camry is your daily driver?
