We're in the heart of the migration and refugee crisis, the big story of our era. Worldwide, more than 65million people have fled their homes. Most of them find refuge in their own countries or region, some try and make it to Europe through the dangerous crossing to Italy, a route on which this year roughly one in 43 people dies. And Italy has been bearing that brunt on its own for years.
For years my passion for mermaids was still very vivid and manifested itself in a great collection of books, movies, artwork, figurines as well as historical and mythological stories. Mermaids were still one of my favourite motifs to draw when I went to art school, so I was known as the mermaid among my classmates and teachers. Even when I studied at university to become a teacher I made use of my passion for mermaids academically and wrote an essay on mermaids with a linguistic approach. Then it finally happened; I got to embody a mermaid physically. 2012 was the year I bought my first tail.
We can't get away from the fact that often these young girls and their families don't have the money to purchase these vital hygiene products, thanks to cruel Conservative austerity measures that hit the poorest hardest. It is a scathing indictment of this government that girls in our country are suffering like this. Conservative ministers shouldn't be allowed to just turn a blind eye and hope the issue goes away.
While Brits clearly believe that traditional newspapers had some influence in the election, they felt social media also did as well. Over four in ten (44%) of the general population ad almost six in ten (58%) 18-24 year olds believe that the result of the election would have been quite different had social media not been a factor.
"Do you think that we experience a second drowning? Years later when life settles down; similar to the first when we discovered our child, and by that token our life, was going to be different?"
When we asked junior doctors what they found most challenging in dealing with patients in our survey, the results highlighted the sheer breadth of emotional, psychological and professional support they require.
I think sport is important and vital for everybody. There are so many benefits - physical, mental, health, social - so many positives to be offered from getting involved. People should be entitled to access it at the level that they want. It needs to be talked about constantly.
Jamaican entrepreneurs can help to develop their country's position in the global marketplace and contribute to their local economy and community. They also have the knowledge and expertise to meet consumer needs in their own markets. Yet, a lot of these brilliant, creative minds lack the opportunity to flourish and create successful businesses. That's what we set out to change at the Branson Centre of Entrepreneurship.
The people of Yemen are counting on us and we must answer their cries. Whenever we look back on historic humanitarian catastrophes the first question we ask ourselves is why? We can stop the suffering of the Yemeni people if we act now. Anything other than urgent action will be deemed by future generations as a catastrophic failure.
It took many complaints, desperate emails and miserable doctors appointments just to have my medication reviewed by a psychiatrist; it tuned out to be a life changing and life-saving 30 minutes which changed everything for me. That review was something I had been asking for and consistently denied for over a year despite being stuck on a medication that wasn't working and with no plan for progress.
In the history of Western Art so often the female is the beautiful muse, or mere adornment to an image. Typically she lacks power, profile or status. But in this photograph, whilst the female is turned away from the lens, her face obscured by a wig and seemingly gazing at the male subject of the photo, her clothing suggests all is not quite as it seems. For on the back of the sequinned jacket writ large across the pink heart is the name CORBYN.
If young people really do feel 'shafted', they have largely their own age group to blame - while turnout among 18-24s was at a high level (64%), among those aged 65 it was 25% points higher at a massive 89%.
Imagine you're 28, developing your career, relationships, trying to get on the property ladder and starting to make your way in the world. Then you're diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, the most widespread disabling neurological condition for young people around the world, for which there is currently no cure. That was me in 2008.
Whilst it is true that eating disorders do not discriminate, the underrepresentation in the media and cultural misunderstanding of people of colour with eating disorders assist in the stripping away of the last shred of self-worth that the disorder has already taken away from the individual affected.
We absolutely need more context and balance. But in the meantime, we also need to remind people of the devastating impact of mental illness in order to continue to fight for the funding and services we need.
Since Tanja's death, I have been speaking regularly to her son on the phone. He has only seen me a few times but has always been aware of "auntie Keti" and has made it clear he is always happy to hear from me and that makes me happy. Every time we talk, it feels as if Tanja is still there in the background, making his supper, tidying his room or getting ready for next day at work.
Most social media platforms also have the function where problem accounts can be muted or blocked. Take full advantage of these tools. You have every right to engage online without being subject to abuse.
Changing a nation's attitudes to the female form, breasts and breastfeeding isn't easy, but the west can continue to learn from the world. Educating young children about breastfeeding is one major way to support mothers.
Hell yes, I'm entitled. What's so wrong with expecting the good things in life, especially if I'm prepared to work hard to get them? And I'm not just talking about physical "stuff", I'm proud to be part of a generation that stands up and expects things like real gender equality, fights racism and other unfortunate facts of life that somehow still aren't just a thing of the past.
Rewinding a little, Sooty's MA at the RCA has taken her on a two year journey of exploring her relationship with her culture (she hails from Manchester but her parents are Iranian), religion and faith. Having grown up in an liberal environment, Sooty's relationship with her faith has evolved naturally, without any pressure to pray or conform
For this inquiry to serve its purpose and to attract our confidence, it must listen to what we say. The terms of references have been the talk of the community for weeks. It is important to us. A group of residents, race equality organisations, academics, lawyers and experts have put in a submission to the panel and may ask to become core participants. Our community is bruised, confidence in public authorities is at its lowest and we cannot cope with any further disappointment, any further rejection. We want our views to be taken into account for a change.
This girl, and the many thousands like her across the country, deserve better. They should be not be left in situations where their lives are at serious risk, but instead should be able to expect care and treatment to deal with the underlying trauma they've faced, to get well and to build a future for themselves.
