The Melbourne CBD, Docklands precinct and Entertainment and Sporting mobility maps help people with limited mobility to use and enjoy what the city as to offer. All of MIFF's CBD venues are listed on the City of Melbourne mobility map.

Information and facilities on the map includes wheelchair accessible toilets and telephones; public TTY telephones; disability designated car parking spaces; accessible off street parking; train stations; accessible pathways; taxi ranks; publics seating; and street gradients.

Forum Theatre, ACMI Cinemas: Accessible Parking 

There are designated on-street Disabled Parking Bays available at the following locations:

Flinders Lane

• Between Spencer and King - 2 spaces, 2 hours
• Between Elizabeth and Swanston - 2 spaces, 2 hours
• Between Swanston and Russell - 1 space, 4 hours
• Between Russell and Exhibition - 1 space, 2 hours

Flinders Street

• Between Elizabeth and Swanston - 1 space, 2 hours

Russell Street

• Between Bourke and Little Bourke - 1 space, 2 hours
• Between Little Collins and Bourke Street - 1 space, 2 hours

It is also possible to drop passengers off in Russell Street. Maximum Vehicle Height: 2 meters

Secure Parking at Flinders Gate, 172 Flinders Street (opposite Federation Square) has two wheelchair accessible parking bays located on the ground floor level, at each of the Flinders St and Flinders Lane entrances.

The Secure Parking Wheelchair Accessible parking bays are located:

• Flinders Street Entrance – 3rd bay as you enter the car park on your right
• Flinders Lane Entrance – 5th bay as you enter the car park on your left

 

Forum

Physical Access

Box Office & Festival Lounge

The Flinders Street entrance has one small step up to a line of double doors. Access is via a temporary ramp which venue staff will make available. The Box Office is situated to the right of the entrance doors and can be entered from the foyer.  

The Festival Lounge is on the Ground Floor of The Forum. There are flat entrances from the foyer to the Festival Lounge. A sloped floor leads to permanent seating in booths and tables for which one or two steps must be scaled. Accessible seating and tables are available at the front of the Festival Lounge.

Cinema

Should you have access requirements, please see a MIFF staff member or volunteer on arrival at the venue. They will escort you to the access entry on Russell Street, where you will then be assisted by venue staff to the upper cinema level via a wheelchair stair lift.

Wheelchair Accessible Seating

Wheelchair accessible seating for all screenings in The Forum is located at the front of the cinema, on the right hand side of the venue (facing the screen).

Cinema access from Flinders Street is via the large railed staircases to the left and right of the foyer. The two staircases lead to an upstairs foyer containing a bar and refreshment area.

There are 44 steps in total to enter the cinema, 23 steps to the upstairs foyer and an additional 21 steps to the cinema.

Inside the cinema, the steps are quite steeply raked and uneven with no handrails. There are 30 steps from the front row to the back row.

A unisex accessible toilet is situated inside the main foyer, on the Ground Floor.

ACMI Cinemas, Australian Centre for the Moving Image 

Physical Access

The main entrance to ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image) is from Federation Square. Wheelchair access is provided at the main entrance and via the accessibility entrance located at the Flinders Street facade where a lift can take visitors up to Entry Level.

The central lifts provide disabled access to the Cinemas Level.

Wheelchairs are available from the Ticketing & Information Desk if required.

Visually impaired warning markers are located on the floor before each step to provide a clear signal of a change of level.

Wheelchair Accessible Seating

Wheelchair accessible seating is available in both ACMI 1 & 2. ACMI 1 wheelchair accessible seating is in the front row of the cinema on entry level; additional spaces are available in the back row if required. These are accessed through an internal lift with assistance from ACMI staff prior to the feature starting.

ACMI 2 wheelchair accessible seating is located at the rear of the cinema close to the entrance.

Wheelchair accessible seating in Studio 1 (Talking Pictures events) is located at the front of the seating area. Please see a member of the Front of House team for assistance.

Access to the cinema on the Lower Level is via the central car park lift and ramp, which is directly across from the cinema entrance and in the food court.

Physical Access

Hoyts cinemas and the MIFF Box Office are located on Level 4 of the Melbourne Central shopping precinct.

Lift access is available between Level 3 and Level 4. Upon arrival at Level 3, please see a MIFF staff member or volunteer who will escort you to the lift.

Comedy Theatre

Building 

At the doors facing onto Exhibition Street there is a small step, which as you move away from Lonsdale Street is reduced to a small lip. Doors are usually propped open during performances. The entrance opens directly into the foyer, which is small and can become quite congested. The Box Office and bar are located to the left, and another small bar to the right.

The wheelchair seating area is at the front-right of the cinema, toward the screen. Front of House Ushers and Volunteers will happily assist in guiding you to this area.

Auditorium 

Only Stalls can be accessed without steps and can be accessed directly from the foyer. Seating is mildly raked. Two central aisles and two side aisles provide plenty of aisle seats. Although the aisles themselves are raked, the back seating rows have a slight step, providing a level footing surface for the audience. Access to the Dress Circle is via a large staircase with handrails. Dress Circle seating is quite steeply tiered. There is a bar that can be accessed from the Dress Circle area.

Accessible Toilet

There is a unisex accessible toilet located in the Stalls inner foyer.  Please go through the Stalls Foyer on the far right hand side, just before you enter the auditorium. PLEASE NOTE: This bathroom has adequate handrails for access but only a small turning circle. Assistance may be required for patrons in a wheelchair.

Village Roadshow Theatrette (State Library of Victoria)  

Physical Access

The Village Roadshow Theatrette is accessible to wheelchair users from entry 3 on La Trobe Street, past Mr Tulk.

To arrange a courtesy wheelchair to use within the Library, ask one of the security staff in the Library foyer. (Staff aren't available to push wheelchairs.)

Planetarium 

Physical Access

The Planetarium and Lightning Room have a limited number of dedicated wheelchair spaces; it is advisable that visitors arrive for these shows 10–15 minutes before the commencement time.

A limited number of wheelchairs are available from the information desk on a first-come basis.

All exhibition galleries and public spaces have lift and/or ramp access.

The lift has tactile indicators.

There are two seats in total.

Accessible parking spaces are available in the main Scienceworks carpark, adjacent to each of the foyer entry doors.

Kerbside parking is available for larger buses in Booker Street, with transition ramps immediately in front of the museum forecourt.

An accessible route from Spotswood station to Scienceworks has recently been resurfaced, with transition ramps provided at all cross street intersections. Ramp access to the station has been re-graded in accordance with accessibility standards.

SpACE @ Collins

Physical Access

The gallery on the first floor of the Mering Building is accessible via the lift from the Collins street entrance. The venue and all sessions held in it are wheelchair accessible and suitable for patrons with limited mobility.

The technology used for Virtual Reality impacts our ability to provide Assistive Listening Devices at this venue however, the experience utilizes headphones. Regent Theatre

Physical Access

Main entrance in Collins Street has 14 steps with 6 evenly spaced handrails, a landing break, then 5 more steps up to the entry doors. The Box Office is located to the right at the top of the first set of steps. The VIP Window is to the left. There are glass doors across the width of the entrance, which are kept open when a performance is on. There is an entrance foyer that leads to the Stalls foyer bar and auditorium.

Wheelchair Accessible Entrance
Arrivals will be welcomed by a venue staff member out the front of the venue, and will be directed to the Accessible Entrance.

Auditorium
Access to the Stalls is on both the left and the right of the rear foyer. The Stalls area is raked. There is greater than usual space between rows, giving patrons a large amount of legroom. There are two central aisles and two side aisles.

The only access to the Dress Circle is via two sets of large staircases. Please note that the marble staircases date back to the theatre’s construction and are slightly worn on the edges. This makes them rather slippery and patrons should take extra care with footing in these areas. Seating in the Dress Circle area is stepped and there are no handrails.
