Windmill

A windmill is a mill that converts the energy of wind into rotational energy by means of vanes called sails or blades. Centuries ago, windmills usually were used to mill grain, pump water, or both. Thus they often were gristmills, windpumps, or both. The majority of modern windmills take the form of wind turbines used to generate electricity, or windpumps used to pump water, either for land drainage or to extract groundwater.

Windmills in antiquity

The windwheel of the Greek engineer Heron of Alexandria in the first century is the earliest known instance of using a wind-driven wheel to power a machine. Another early example of a wind-driven wheel was the prayer wheel, which has been used in Tibet and China since the fourth century. It has been claimed that the Babylonian emperor Hammurabi planned to use wind power for his ambitious irrigation project in the seventeenth century BCE.

Horizontal windmills

The first practical windmills had sails that rotated in a horizontal plane, around a vertical axis. According to Ahmad Y. al-Hassan, these panemone windmills were invented in eastern Persia as recorded by the Persian geographer Estakhri in the ninth century. The authenticity of an earlier anecdote of a windmill involving the second caliph Umar (AD 634–644) is questioned on the grounds that it appears in a tenth-century document. Made of six to 12 sails covered in reed matting or cloth material, these windmills were used to grind grain or draw up water, and were quite different from the later European vertical windmills. Windmills were in widespread use across the Middle East and Central Asia, and later spread to China and India from there.

Film festival

A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Films may be of recent date and, depending upon the festival's focus, can include international and domestic releases. Some festivals focus on a specific film-maker or genre (e.g., film noir) or subject matter (e.g., horror film festivals). A number of film festivals specialise in short films of a defined maximum length. Film festivals are typically annual events. Some film historians do not consider Film Festivals as official releases of film, like Jerry Beck. The best known film festivals are the Venice Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival, the latter being the largest film festival worldwide, based on attendance. The Venice Film Festival is the oldest major festival. The Melbourne International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the oldest in the world. A 2013 study found 3,000 active films festivals worldwide—active defined as having held an event in the previous 24 months.

Rich The Kid

Dimitri Roger (born July 13, 1992), better known by his stage name Rich The Kid is an American rapper from Woodstock, Georgia. In 2014, he released his debut EP, Rich Than Famous.

Early life

Dimitri Roger was born at Mercy Hospital in Queens, New York. He is of Haitian descent and grew up speaking Haitian Creole fluently. When he was 11, his parents split up and his dad stayed in New York while he and his mom moved to Woodstock, Georgia, because he was getting into a lot of trouble. Roger was always a class clown in school. He listened to Nas, Jay Z, Tupac Shakur, Notorious B.I.G., and 50 Cent when he was in Queens. Once he got to Atlanta, he started to get into T.I. and Jeezy. Roger once got fired from Wendys, for coming in high on the drug his manager served him. His first name was Black Boy The Kid, but when he started to get money he changed it to Rich The Kid.

Career

2013–14: Been About the Benjamins, Street On Lock series and Rich Than Famous

In 2013, Roger announced he was going to release his debut solo mixtape, Been About The Benjamins, March 1 on Livemixtapes.com. He also released a collaborative mixtape series with Migos called Streets On Lock, they've released volume 1 and 2 in 2013 and volume 3 in 2014. Roger was featured in the mixtape by the Quality Control Music label called Solid Foundation which was hosted by DJ Drama and released on February 2, 2014. His second solo mixtape called, Feels Good To Be Rich which was released on August 14, 2014 and featured other artists such as Young Thug, Rockie Fresh, Kirko Bangz, Yo Gotti, Riff Raff, and more. On November 4, 2014, Rich The Kid released the single "On My Way" featuring GS9 artists, Bobby Shmurda and Rowdy Rebel to promote his debut EP, Rich Than Famous. It was later released on Christmas Day.
