Aeryon Scout is a small reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) designed and built by Aeryon Labs of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The vehicle was developed between 2007 to 2009.
The Scout is a vertical take-off and landing VTOL quadcopter requiring no launch equipment. It can hover in a fixed position and weighs 3.0 lb (1.4 kg) without payload.
The Scout is a quadcopter in layout, with four rotors mounted on booms and four landing gear legs. Payloads are mounted underneath the fuselage on a gimbal mount.
The Scout can be operated beyond the line of sight up to 3 kilometres (1.9 miles) from the user, with a designed operational altitude above ground level of 300 to 500 feet at flying speeds of up to 50 kilometres per hour (31 miles per hour) and an endurance of 25 minutes. The Scout's design allows flight in adverse weather conditions and it has been flown in wind speeds of 80 kilometres per hour (50 mph) and temperatures ranging from -30°C to +50°C. All communications are digital and encrypted, which reduces the risk of hijacking and video interception.
A scout is a soldier performing reconnaissance and other support duties.

Mark II or Mark 2 often refers to the second version of a product, frequently military hardware. "Mark", meaning "model" or "variant", can be abbreviated "Mk."

While NATO countries fly unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) high above Libya, none of these UAVs, or the vital intelligence they provide, was available to the Libyans fighting to free their country -- they were fighting blind. So, they got one of their own. The Libyan rebels have been using the Aeryon Scout Micro UAV to acquire intelligence on enemy positions and to coordinate their resistance efforts. This video gives sample photos and video from both the Scout's daylight and thermal payloads.

Introducing the VideoZoom10x payload for the Aeryon Scout. Targeted at real-time reconnaissance and identification applications, the VideoZoom10x custom payload by Aeryon adds a stabilized ten times optical zoom video capability to the Scout's family of payloads. At a mere 200 grams, the VideoZoom10x is the world's lightest all-digital gimballed optical zoom camera. The VideoZoom10x produces the highest quality real time video available in any Micro UAV -- for example, an operator can determine if someone is holding a gun versus a shovel from a distance of greater than 300 meters.
Aeryon Scout demonstrated advanced capabilities at the 2011 Defense & Security Equipment International (DSEi) exhibition in London, England. The scenario involved launching the Scout from over 400m away, operating over water, and streaming live video to the event main screen.
The Aeryon Scout is a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) micro unmanned aerial vehicle used for tactical, over-the-hill aerial intelligence. Unlike other systems, the Scout puts the control of aerial intelligence directly into the hands of the people on the ground that require the intelligence while delivering the most sophisticated and highest quality aerial intelligence available today.

Aiding NOAA's National Marine Mammal Laboratory, researchers from the University of Alaska Fairbanks used the Aeryon Scout to demonstrate the increased reliability and effectiveness of conducting ship based wildlife monitoring using a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) UAV. Operating in the Bering Sea around the Aleutian Islands of Alaska, one Aeryon Scout was used to fly for more than 6 hours during 31 flights with a total flight distance of 60,124 meters. During this time, researchers captured close to 60 gigabytes of data including more than 6000 high resolution images.

Vector™, the integrated onboard computing platform, is dedicated to real-time video processing. Available on select Aeryon payloads including the HDZoom30 and the SR-EO/IR Mk II, Vector employs advanced video processing algorithms to minimize operator workload, and optimize target identification and acquisition. The Aeryon SR-EO/IR Mk II imaging payload is a dual sensor daylight (EO) and thermal (IR) imaging payload. It delivers HD video and digitally-enhanced, stable, IR imaging in an IP-53 rated, 3-axis stabilized gimbal.
An Aeyron Scout unmanned aerial vehicle lands at the University of Alaska Fairbanks' Large Animal Research Station Monday May 5, 2014, completing the first flight at one of six drone test bed sites the FAA picked in December to write the rulebook on future drone regulations. The quadcopter will be used to count caribou in a project that tests the feasibility of drones for wildlife field surveys.
The Aeryon Scout demonstrates the effectiveness of using small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) for accident reconstruction in a live-crash simulation carried out by the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS). The Scout provided officers with an aerial perspective of the crash by live streaming high resolution video. After the crash, the Scout quickly covered the 1 acre area of interest capturing 40 images of the scene in approximately 5 minutes.

Aeryon small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) set the standard for immediate aerial intelligence gathering and are the benchmark for flight performance, reliability and ease-of-use. Aeryon Scout™ and Aeryon SkyRanger™ are Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) aerial vehicles - which can operate in confined environments where manned aircraft and fixed-wing sUAS cannot operate safely, and fly lower and slower to capture precise, detailed imagery. The Aeryon sUAS platform is ideal for providing continuous eyes-on-target for situational awareness, operations in confined environments, collection of precise and detailed imagery, and low-risk launch and retrieval without peripheral equipment. In this video, an Aeryon Scout, mounted with a Hokuyo URG lidar, builds a 3D occupancy grid map of our lab environment using the Octomap library (http://octomap.sourceforge.net/ ). Vehicle localization in x, y, z, and yaw are performed though an Optitrack system, while roll and pitch are obtained through on-board IMU estimates. The generated maps look promising, and we are looking forward to incorporating them with other algorithms.
During the week of July 11, 2011, BP Exploration Alaska and Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute successfully demonstrated the Aeryon Scout Micro Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (MAV) as a valuable tool to gather aerial imagery to aid in oil spill cleanup efforts. The compact and easy-to-use Aeryon Scout, designed for both surveillance and imaging applications, is uniquely suited to the difficult terrain and conditions seen in Alaska, easily handling the high winds and rain seen frequently in coastal areas. This demonstration focused on utilizing the small unmanned Scout MAV to improve the effectiveness, safety and accuracy of Shoreline Clean-up Assessment Technique (SCAT) teams. Testing occurred in both Anchorage, Alaska, at Ft. Richardson, and outside Valdez, Alaska in Prince William Sound....

A geographic information system (GIS) is a computer system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of geographical data. The acronym GIS is sometimes used for geographical information science or geospatial information studies to refer to the academic discipline or career of working with geographic information systems and is a large domain within the broader academic discipline of Geoinformatics. GIS can be thought of as a system that provides spatial data entry, management, retrieval, analysis, and visualization functions. The implementation of a GIS is often driven by jurisdictional (such as a city), purpose, or application requirements. Generally, a GIS implementation may be custom-designed for an organization. Hence, a GIS deployment developed for ...
