Benjamin Baruch Ambrose (11 September 1896 – 11 June 1971), known professionally as Ambrose or Bert Ambrose, was an English bandleader and violinist. Ambrose became the leader of a highly acclaimed British dance band, Bert Ambrose & His Orchestra, in the 1930s.
Ambrose was born in Warsaw in 1896, when it was part of the Russian Empire. After a time the family moved to London. They were Jewish, his father being registered as a "Dealer in rags" in the 1911 UK census, where Ambrose was named as "Barnett' (a "Violin musician student"). He began playing the violin while young, and travelled to New York City with his aunt. He began playing professionally, first for Emil Coleman at New York's Reisenweber's restaurant, then in the Palais Royal's big band. After making a success of a stint as bandleader, at the age of 20 he was asked to put together and lead his own fifteen-piece band. After a dispute with his employer, he moved his band to another venue, where they enjoyed considerable popularity.

The thirsty Rango instantly takes on the role of both and selfishly agrees to take on the case of their missing water.

With a troubled past including alcoholism, Mike does not intend on staying to claim his rightful place as Chief, but intends on returning to his current life as a logger in Bella Coola. Meanwhile, a lone Orca whale - dubbed Luna by western media - has been spotted in the area, the whale unusually socialized to boats and humans. Luna, suspected to be a missing juvenile from a pod now living south of the area in Puget Sound, becomes a public sensation, both as a spectacle and a human interest story. The Department of Fisheries & Oceans (DFO) administration, led by Ted Jeffries, plans on reuniting Luna with his pod, which means capturing the young Orca. This move by DFO does not sit well with Mike and the band, who see the spirit of Ambrose inhabited within Luna. They feel it best for Luna to decide where he chooses to live. This issue - in combination with caring for a troubled band youth, Adam Ross - reintegrates Mike into his band life. The band does have an ally in local DFO officer Jill Mackay, who - behind the scenes - is continually butting heads with her boss, Jeffries, the public face of the DFO.

Years later, long after she has left Ambrose, Jane falls in love with Richard Newton, whose own past, like hers, hardly stands out as scrupulous. They get married and have a child, but then Richard finds out that Jane had been a kept woman, and insists on a separation. He soon begins to think about his own past indiscretions, however, and realizes the hypocrisy of judging Jane by a higher standard than the one by which he has lived. Bert AMBROSE (1897-1971), the bandleader & violinist, in 1927 he was elected musical director of the exclusive Mayfair Hotel at a then record annual fee of £10,000 and whose outfit was by the early 1930s regarded as crème de la crème among British bands. He paid the best money and got the finest players, many of whom went on to become bandleaders themselves. It might be interesting to ponder just how many of the rich and famous clients who danced to Ambrose's sophisticated arrangements were aware that their favourite was the son of an East End rag-and-bone man. Recorded in 1935. Destined to become the leader of what was perhaps the most highly acclaimed of all English dance bands during the 1930s, Bert Ambrose was born in London but crossed the Atlantic as a lad with his auntie to settle for a few years on U.S. soil. His very first professional engagement was as violinist for Emil Coleman at Reisenweber's restaurant in New York. He then worked in a big band at the Palais Royal. By 1917 he was directing musical entertainments at New York's Club de Vingt, and remained there through 1920. Although he led a band at Clover Gardens in 1924, Ambrose maintained a steady professional presence in London during the 1920s, periodically leading bands at the Embassy Club from 1920-1926 and in the Mayfair Hotel from 1927-1933. Here is an interview I conducted in 2002 with the discographer, jazz researcher, author and broadcaster Brian Rust (19 March 1922 - 5 January 2011). He gives his candid views on the Original Dixieland Jazz Band (ODJB) and the development of jazz, as well as reminiscences about the musicians and bandleaders he met and interviewed, and also how he carried out the compilation of his renowned discographies.
Full titles read: "Thousands of listeners have heard him on the Radio, Here he is on the Pathetone - Maurice Winnick and his Band. From the Piccadilly Hotel, London." London. Various shots show Maurice Winnick and his band playing the jaunty number 'Sing Something Simple'. One of the musicians comes forward and sings; another does the same, this time in a babyish voice. A bit of funny business follows between these two, a very tall man who makes a noise like a trombone playing and bandleader Maurice. FILM ID:1032.07 A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. All of our love has washed away
And you leave me feeling the same way
All I ever wanted was you
Only only you
All I ever need was true
All the regrets that I live with
They pull me down and turn and twist me
They twist me baby
And all I ever wanted was you
And only, only you
All I ever need was true
Only you
No more regrets of yesterday
That I can’t take away
And clear out the past
I always writ
There’s got to be a way
And all I ever wanted
And all I ever needed
Was you
All I ever wanted was you
Only, only you
All I ever needed was true
Only you
No more regrets of yesterday
That I can’t take away
And clear out the past I always writ
There’s got to be a way
All I ever wanted
And all I ever need
Was you
