Enter the Ninja

Enter the Ninja is a 1981 ninja action film directed by Menahem Golan and starring Franco Nero, Susan George, Christopher George, and Sho Kosugi. It is often credited with starting the "Ninja Movie" craze of the 1980s. It was the first in an unofficial trilogy, followed by Revenge of the Ninja and Ninja III: The Domination, though the three films share nothing in common beyond the theme of ninjas and featuring actor Sho Kosugi in a leading role.

Plot

Cole (Franco Nero), a veteran of the Angolan Bush War, completes his ninjutsu training in Japan. Cole goes to visit his war buddy Frank Landers (Alex Courtney) and his newlywed wife Mary Ann Landers (Susan George), who are the owners of a large piece of farming land in the Philippines. Cole soon finds that the Landers are being repeatedly harassed by a wealthy CEO named Charles Venarius (Christopher George) in order to get them to sell their property because, unbeknownst to them, a large oil deposit is located beneath their land. After beginning to thwart Venarius' hired henchmen's attempts to bully and coerce the Landers into the selling of their property to Venarius, Cole eventually finds himself facing an old rival from the days of his training – Hasegawa (Sho Kosugi), who was hired by Venarius as an assassin to eliminate Cole. In the midst of these events, an affair occurs between Cole and Mary one evening.

Sho Kosugi

Sho Kosugi (ショー・小杉, born Shōichi Kosugi (小杉正一, Kosugi Shōichi); 17 June 1948) is a Japanese martial artist with extensive training in Shindō jinen-ryū Karate, Kendo, Judo, Iaido, Kobudo, Aikido, and Ninjutsu who gained popularity as an actor during the 1980s, often playing ninjas.Sho Kosugi is a man that believes and practices his profession as an actor and as a martial art grand master.He was an All Japan Karate Champion.

At the age of 19, he left Japan to study and reside in Los Angeles where he earned a bachelor's degree in Economics at CSULA. At the same time, he consistently improved his martial arts skills while learning a wide variety of styles, such as Chinese Xing Yi Quan, Korean Tae Kwon Do, and Japanese Shitō-ryū and Shotokan-ryū Karate.

He is the father of Kane and Shane Kosugi. After taking a hiatus from film, he started a taiko group in California. In Japan, he also ran an internationally oriented group of martial arts acting schools known as the Sho Kosugi Institute. He currently resides in Los Angeles. Films in which Kosugi's sons perform alongside their father include Revenge of the Ninja, Pray for Death, Black Eagle, and Journey of Honor (aka Kabuto, aka Shogun Warrior).

Franco Nero

Franco Nero (born 23 November 1941) is an Italian actor.

He is best known for his roles of the title character in Sergio Corbucci's Django (1966), Sir Lancelot in Joshua Logan's Camelot (1967), Horacio in Luis Buñuel's Tristana (1970), the title character in Enzo G. Castellari's Keoma (1976), Captain Nikolai Lescovar/Colonel von Ingorslebon in Guy Hamilton's Force 10 from Navarone (1978), Cole in Menahem Golan's Enter the Ninja (1981), his reprising role again as the title character in Nello Rossatti's Django Strikes Again (1987), General Ramon Esperanza in Renny Harlin's Die Hard 2 (1990), Gianni Versace in Menahem Golan's The Versace Murder (1998), General Francini in Brian Trenchard-Smith's Megiddo: The Omega Code 2 (2001) and Lorenzo Bartolini in Gary Winick's Letters to Juliet (2010).

He also played the narrator in the film Rasputin (2010) directed by Louis Nero and voiced the character of Uncle Topolino in the animated film Cars 2 (2011) directed by John Lasseter and co-directed by Brad Lewis. In 2012 Nero made a cameo appearance in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained.

Between 1985 and 1987, following his groundbreaking star-making performances in the Cannon Group's Ninja Trilogy, the great Sho Kosugi starred in another 3 ninja movies, unofficially known as "The Ninja Avenger Trilogy". 9 Deaths of the Ninja (1985), Pray For Death (1985), and Rage of Honor (1987), each featured Sho as a ninja avenger. The first 2 films were lensed by the same Director of Photography (Roy H. Wagner), while the last 2 films featured the same Director (Gordon Hessler) , producers, and production company. All 3 films featured fight/action choreography by Sho Kosugi and Alan Amiel, and all 3 films featured catchy theme songs. This tribute video incorporates all 3 movie trailers (including a rebuilt trailer for Pray For Death) book-ended with new custom opening and closing credits.

"En 1831, Charles Darwin se embarcó como naturalista en el Beagle, un bergantín del gobierno británico que se disponía a realizar un viaje de exploración alrededor del mundo. El buque estaba al mando del capitán FitzRoy, quien entre sus propósitos tenía el de evangelizar a los nativos de la Tierra del Fuego, en el extremo sur del continente americano. Con ese fin, iban a bordo un misionero y tres fueguinos secuestrados y llevados a Inglaterra en un viaje anterior. Eran dos muchachos (a los que se bautizó como Jemmy Button y York Minster) y una muchacha (a la que se dio el nombre de Fuegia Basket). Se suponía que estos fueguinos pasados por la civilización serían de gran ayuda en la tarea evangelizadora. Los fueguinos, en conjunto, progresaron mucho en el año de viaje desde que salieron de Inglaterra. Habían aprendido a hablar inglés con bastante fluidez, habían asimilado -o parecían haber asimilado- las enseñanzas religiosas de FitzRoy, y daba la impresión de que entendían lo que se esperaba de ellos. York Minster anunció que al desembarcar en su tierra natal deseaba casarse con Fuegia Basket [...]. Todo iba muy bien.
