Marching In

"Marching In" is a science fiction short story by Isaac Asimov. The story was written at the request of the American publication High Fidelity, with the stipulation that it be 2,500 words long, set about twenty-five years in the future and deal with some aspect of sound recording.

Plot summary

In the year 2001, Jerome Bishop, a jazz composer and trombonist, is asked by Dr. Cray to assist in a project at a mental hospital, lending his musical knowledge to an experimental treatment of depression.

Although initially doubtful that he has anything to offer, he agrees to work on it and returns a few days later. He suggests to Dr. Cray that the irresistible rhythm of a revival hymn can snap anyone out of depression and demonstrates this by humming the opening beat of "When the Saints Go Marching In", which makes the patient feel much better and even gets Dr. Cray's toes tapping.

Go Marching

Go Marching (1965 – August 10, 1994) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who was sired by the outstanding Champion sire Princequillo and out of the Champion racemare, Leallah. Bred by Charlton Clay at his Marchmont Farm near Paris, Kentucky, Go Marching was sold to Warner L. Jones, Jr. as an unnamed two-year-old colt in a May 1967 Fasig-Tipton sale at Belmont Park for a record price of $210,000.

Race career

Trained by U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee, Horatio Luro, at age three Go Marching won the first race of his career on March 7, 1968 at Florida's Gulfstream Park when he ran on turf for the first time. He went on to win the Bernard Baruch Handicap at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York and then had his best year at age four in 1969 when his wins included the Canadian Turf Handicap and the Appleton Handicap at Gulfstream Park.

Breeding career

Go Marching stood for his owner in Kentucky until age eleven. He was then sent to a breeding farm in France where he remained until age fourteen after which he was purchased by breeders who brought him to stand in Japan where he died on August 10, 1994. Overall, Go Marching met with modest success as a sire.

Saint

A saint is a person who is recognized as having an exceptional degree of holiness, or likeness to God. While the English term "saint" originated in Christianity, historians of religion now use the appellation "in a more general way to refer to the state of special holiness that many religions attribute to certain people," with the Jewish Tzadik, the Islamic Mu'min, the Hindu rishi or Sikh guru, and the Buddhist arhat or bodhisattva also being referred to as "saints". Depending on the religion, saints are recognized either by official ecclesiastical declaration/denomination or by popular acclamation (see folk saints).

In Christianity, "saint" has a wide variety of meanings, depending on the context and denomination. The original Christian denotation was any believer who is "in Christ" and in whom Christ dwells, whether in Heaven or on earth. In Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic doctrine, all of their faithful deceased in Heaven are considered to be saints, but some are considered worthy of greater honor, emulation, or veneration, with official ecclesiastical recognition given to some saints by canonization or glorification.

Trip Lee

William Lee Barefield III (born December 17, 1987), better known by his stage name Trip Lee, is an American Southern rapper, singer, poet, and author. Signed to Reach Records, he has recorded both as a solo artist and as a founding member of the 116 Clique. Originally from Dallas, Texas, he now resides in Atlanta, Georgia, and is a teaching pastor at Cornerstone Church. He first gained recognition after appearing on the Reach Records website at the age of 16. His third album, Between Two Worlds, was nominated for two Dove Awards and won the Stellar Award for Best Hip Hop Album in 2011.

Lee is a Reformed Christian.

Biography

Early life

William Lee Barefield III was born and raised in Dallas, TX. As a young boy, Lee had dreams of being a professional athlete or a famous rapper, and he began to hone his lyrical skills at the age of 12. "I rapped about random stuff… how hot I was, how many girls I could pull," Lee says. But upon giving his life to Christ, at age 14, his focus changed from fortune, fame, and women to serving and ministering the Gospel.
