A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Films may be of recent date and, depending upon the festival's focus, can include international and domestic releases. Some festivals focus on a specific film-maker or genre (e.g., film noir) or subject matter (e.g., horror film festivals). A number of film festivals specialise in short films of a defined maximum length. Film festivals are typically annual events. Some film historians do not consider Film Festivals as official releases of film, like Jerry Beck. The best known film festivals are the Venice Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival, the latter being the largest film festival worldwide, based on attendance. The Venice Film Festival is the oldest major festival. The Melbourne International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the oldest in the world. A 2013 study found 3,000 active films festivals worldwide—active defined as having held an event in the previous 24 months.

The Mametz Wood Memorial commemorates an engagement of the 38th (Welsh) Division of the British Army during the First Battle of the Somme in France in 1916.
The memorial, erected in 1987 by Welsh sculptor David Petersen, is a Welsh red dragon on top of a three-metre stone plinth, facing the wood and tearing at barbed wire. It was commissioned by the South Wales Branch of the Western Front Association following a public funding-raising appeal.
The memorial is located near the site of the engagement in northern France. It can be reached from the village of Mametz on the D64 road.
On 12 July 2013, the Welsh Government announced that it was helping to fund refurbishment of the memorial in time for the 100th anniversary of the Battle in 2016.
Mametz Wood was the objective of the 38th (Welsh) Division during the First Battle of the Somme. The attack occurred in a northerly direction over a ridge, focussing on the German positions in the wood, between 7 July and 12 July 1916 . On the 7 July, the men undertook the first wave which was intended to take the wood in a matter of hours. However, strong fortification, machinegun posts and shelling killed and injured over 400 soldiers before they even reached the wood. Further attacks by the 17th Division on 8 July failed to improve the position.
The Elysian is a mixed-use Celtic Tiger-era building at Eglinton Street in Cork, Ireland. Construction of the building was completed in early September 2008.
It consists of a number of connected 6-8 storey buildings, with a landmark 17-storey tower on the southwest corner of the site. The tower is 68.28 metres (224 ft) to the top floor, making it the tallest storeyed building in the Republic of Ireland, surpassing the Google Docks building in Dublin.
The complex includes an enclosed Japanese garden and a two-level basement garage. The building opened during an economic crisis in Ireland and by late April 2009, 80% of the 211 apartments remained unsold and 50% of the commercial units were vacant. As of October 2009 this situation continued, earning the building the nickname "The Idle Tower", a pun on a nearby hostelry known as The Idle Hour. An article in The Irish Times newspaper described the Elysian as a "Mary Celeste adrift in the recession"
Mandatory annual management fees for an apartment in the Elysian are €4,000 per year.

This is for everyone who liked my version of this song on the Wales Travel Video Postcard. Thank you so much for all the feedback and kind words :) I thought I'd record another version, this time with a guitar part. I took up playing the guitar about a year and a half ago, a while after I first recorded this song for the video postcard. I tried to keep it simple, because part of the appeal of this beautiful Welsh folk song is it's simplicity. I hope you enjoy it. Please subscribe, and you may have more welsh music coming your way! Scottish piper Jimi McRae recites a passage in 'Old Welsh' from the Gododdin, 'the oldest Scottish poem' and possibly the oldest surviving work of native literature from the British isles dating to around 600AD. The Gododdin tells the tale of 300 warriors plus followers from 'Y Hen Ogledd' (the old north) who rode south from Din Eidyn (Edinburgh) sometime before 600AD after a year of feasting and training, under the leadership of one Mynyddog Mwynfawr, to face invading Saxons at the battle of Catraeth, now thought to be Catterick in North Yorkshire. The battle ended disasterously for the native celts, the entire force falling almost to a man after several days of fierce fighting in which they were outnumbered, according to legend, 100 to one. .. However, in true celtic tradition it was see...

As some of the words are hard to define. This was recorded during the 50's,on some cheap unsophisticated recording device, I have improved the sound considerably, Many have listened to the recording without the images I have now added, even before many said " That was sad but very nice... it got to me" and that seems to be most peoples reactions, if they have even a modicum of sensitivity left in their hardened hearts.

Since Tom's arrival we have been very busy at the centre due to the exceptional lovely weather and decided to give him lots of settling in time, lots of food and lots of fuss. Now with the weather cooler and less people visiting we have some time to take him out and explore the local lanes and villages which are our wet weather and winter exercise places. Tom has just been a wonderful chilled out horse and a pleasure to work with, tho in contrast when he rides out his walk is a very keen forward going one with good pace. We had taken him out with Rosie our 20yr old Welsh Cob sec D mare (the boss) who is a great teacher of respect but In the first couple of hundred yards he decided he was in charge and took the lead for the rest of the couple mile outing.
In a secluded spot on the English and Welsh border lies this old Manor Farmhouse where time has stood still for the past 40 years. Squeezing through a narrow window I enter a dust filled room, part of the floor has caved in revealing the dark cellar beneath, the rotting wood creaks as I sneak along the side of the room to the safety of the hallway.... Faster Than Sound is Aldeburgh Music's series of experimental cross-artform collaborations which give artists the chance to develop work over the course of a week-long residency at Snape Maltings in Suffolk, culminating in a performance at the end of each week. Richard Skelton composes work specific to geographic place, using local place names to create word poem threads for visual, text and musical pieces. His work is rarely performed live, but for Faster Than Sound, Skelton drew on the inspirational environment of Snape and its surrounding landscape to weave a new narrative, which was performed live by Skelton himself with The Elysian Quartet at Aldeburgh Music's Britten Studio on 21 March 2014. In December 2013, Skelton visited Aldeburgh Music for the first time to develop his knowled...
“The wind recalls the past” by Helga Gasser and Antonio Manfredi Harlech Biennale, Wales, May 2012 A window. We see long, flowing hair, a female back disappearing into the darkness of the room. We hear sounds like music of the spheres, reminiscent of church bells and wind chimes. The scene changes. In the soft light of a cloudy day, bare feet feel their way over changing surfaces, soft ground, hard stone, they dig laboriously through the sand and touch the water of a beach, follow the path of a train along rail roads, a rocky road covered with broken slates, finally reaching a dark yellow cloth with dark red pomegranate motifs that covers the ground. The cloth’s soft and warm fabric can be felt intensively in stark contrast to the previous cold and hard surfaces. As the path becomes more...
Official website: http://eluveitie.ch/ Eluveitie (pronounced /ɛlˈveɪti/ el-vay-ti) is a folk metal band from Winterthur, Switzerland. The founder of this band was Chrigel Glanzmann. The band formed in 2002 and their first EP, Vên came out in 2003. Vên was a studio album but after that they formed a real band. They describe themselves as "The new wave of folk metal". Eluveitie use traditional instruments amidst guitars and harsh vocals. The lyrics are often in the extinct language Gaulish. The name of the band comes from a graffito on a vessel from Mantua (ca. 300 BC). The inscription in Etruscan letters reads eluveitie, which has been interpreted as the Etruscan form of the Celtic (h)elvetios (“the Helvetian”), presumably referring to a man of Helvetian descent living in Mantua. About the talk Magic 'mantles of invisibility' have appeared in folk stories through the ages, including a 900-year-old Welsh tale of King Arthur, and in Norse and German fairy tales. Now, new 'metamaterials' have brought invisibility cloaking out of the realm of fiction and into science fact. It is well known that atoms and molecules define the properties of many substances found in nature. A new branch of physics-- nanophotonics—has opened a host of new possibilities, not only to mimic nature but to create whole new classes of nanostructured materials with unique properties not found in the natural world. With these metamaterials we can achieve many effects previously only imagined in science fiction, including bending light in opposite ways and the creation of invisibility cloaking. ...
