Charles Roger Pomfret Hodgson (born 21 March 1950) is an English musician, singer and songwriter, best known as the former co-frontman and founding member of progressive rock band Supertramp.
Hodgson composed and sang the majority of the band's hits, including "Dreamer", "Give a Little Bit", "Breakfast in America", "Take the Long Way Home", "The Logical Song" and "It's Raining Again".
He departed Supertramp in 1983 and moved his family away from the Los Angeles music scene to live a simpler lifestyle close to nature and be home with his children as they were growing up. Hodgson returned to touring in 2001 and is still touring worldwide.
He is recognised for his tenor voice and distinct melodies which became a trademark of his former band Supertramp. Hodgson often writes about spiritual and philosophical topics.
Hodgson has been a vegetarian for a long time.
Hodgson was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, on 21 March 1950 and grew up in Oxford. He is the son of Charles and Jill (née Pomfret, died in June 2009) Hodgson. He attended boarding schools Woodcote House near Windlesham, Surrey, where he was the first boy to learn electric guitar, and Stowe School near Buckingham, Buckinghamshire. Hodgson's first guitar was a parting gift from his father at age 12 when his parents divorced. He took it to boarding school with him, where his teacher taught him three chords. He began composing his own music and lyrics and within a year gave his first concert at school with nine original songs at the age of 13. Hodgson's first band at school consisted of him on guitar and his friend Roy Hovey playing snare drums. They were dubbed the "H-bombs" because of their last names.
Roger is an English male given name and surname, from the Anglo-Norman French Roger, Rogier, which is itself derived from Germanic words (hroth, hruod and ger) meaning respectively "fame" and "spear". In Anglo-Saxon sources the name is first recorded, in the Dark Age epic poem Beowulf, as Hroðgar ("glorious spear-bearer").
The name is also found in the Netherlands in the form Rutger, and in German as Rüdiger. The Latin form, as used by a few medieval figures, is Rogerius. A Welsh variation is the family name Rosser.
Roger is also a short version of the term "Jolly Roger", which refers to a black flag with white skull and crossbones, formerly used by sea pirates since as early as 1723.
From c.1650 to c.1870, Roger was slang for the word "penis", probably due to the origin of the name involving fame with a spear. Subsequently, "to roger" became a slang verb form meaning "to have sex with"/"to penetrate".
In 19th century England, Roger was slang for the cloud of toxic green gas that swept through the chlorine bleach factories periodically.

Breakfast in America is the sixth album by the English progressive rock band Supertramp, released on 29 March 1979 by A&M Records.
Breakfast in America was recorded in 1978 at The Village Recorder in Los Angeles. It featured four U.S. Billboard hit singles: "The Logical Song" (No. 6), "Goodbye Stranger" (No. 15), "Take the Long Way Home" (No. 10), and "Breakfast in America" (No. 62). In the UK, "The Logical Song" and the title track were both top 10 hits, the only two the group had in their native country.Breakfast in America won two Grammy Awards in 1980, and holds an RIAA certification of quadruple platinum.
In France, the album is the biggest-selling English-language album of all time, and the third biggest seller overall.
Breakfast In America became Supertramp's biggest-selling album with more than 6 million copies sold in the US alone and was No. 1 on Billboard's Pop Albums Chart for six weeks in the spring and summer of 1979. The album also hit No. 1 in Norway, Austria, Canada and Australia. It was also their biggest album in the UK, reaching No. 3 (for five consecutive weeks) and remaining on the charts for exactly a year.

Plot: For residents on the idyllic South Seas island of Pago Pago, life is simple until a boat arrives carrying two couples, the Davidsons (who are missionaries), the MacPhails and a prostitute named Sadie Thompson. Davidson is more than just a religious zealot; he's a mad man. When the boat, which was en route to another port, is temporarily stranded on the island due to a possible Cholera outbreak on-board, Sadie spends her time "partying" with the American soldiers stationed on the island. Her behavior, however, is more than the Davidsons can stand and soon Mr. Davidson confronts Sadie about her evil ways and offers salvation. When Sadie rebels and the attempted redemption does not go as planned, Davidson arranges to have her sent back to San Francisco, where she fled some years ago due to mysterious personal issues. Davidson soon becomes unhinged and thus begins a series of surprising events which culminate in disaster.

Roger comments on his evergreen classic, Breakfast in America: "It's consistently one of the most popular songs in the set and it just seems to ignite a wave of joy in the audience when they hear the first chords. Never could I have imagined when I wrote this song at age 19 that it would be gaining in popularity, if that is even possible, over 40 years later. It's the playful, fun, jubilant quality that people love to hear and sing along to." ~ Roger Hodgson Roger Hodgson, formerly of Supertramp, wrote & composed Breakfast in America, including all of the arrangements, when he was in his teens before he co-founded the band. The lyrics are about how the innocence and wonder of childhood can quickly give way to worry and cynicism as children are taught to be responsible adults. It makes the point that logic can restrict creativity and passion. Supertramp keyboard player Roger Hodgson, who wrote this song and sang the lead vocals, said in our 2012 interview: "I think it was very relevant when I wrote it, and actually I think it's even more relevant today. It's very basically saying that what they teach us in schools is all very fine, but what about what they don't teach us in schools that creates so much confusion in our being. I mean, they don't really prepare us for life in terms of teaching us who we are on the inside. They teach us how to function on the outside and to be very intellectual, but they don't te...

For Roger as a songwriter, his creative process is not inspired by jam sessions or collaborations. Writing music is very much something that Roger does when his is alone. Many people ask how the collaboration worked between Roger and Rick Davies, as all songs recorded by Supertramp were credited Davies/Hodgson. In truth Roger and Rick only wrote a few songs together on their first Supertramp Album. From 'Indelibly Stamped' onwards, they each wrote individually but continued to share the writer's credit, much like Lennon & McCartney did with the Beatles. Roger Hodgson left the band in 1983 and the Supertramp that most people know has not existed for over 30 years. The music of Supertramp totally changed after Roger left to match Rick's musical influence, which is more jazz and blues. R...

Roger is the writer and composer of the band's greatest hits to include Dreamer, Give a Little Bit, It's Raining Again, Breakfast in America, The Logical Song, Take the Long Way Home, School, Fool's Overture, Hide in Your Shell, and so many more. The songs Roger Hodgson sings that are often referred to as "Supertramp songs" are songs that Roger wrote and composed alone - that is how he creates music. He will often hear the musical composition first, then the lyrics come. Sometimes he will hear the whole song complete inside himself before he puts it down on paper and records it. When he was with Supertramp, he would make a demo of the song and bring it to the band for them to learn their parts. So Supertramp as a b...
http://smarturl.it/Supertrampdvdparis79 http://smarturl.it/Supertrampbluparis79 Supertramp's "Breakfast In America" was the biggest selling album in the world in 1979. Former Supertramp lead singer and co-founder Roger Hodgson wrote and composed this song by himself. He has talked about how when he composed it he always saw it being played with an orchestra. So, seeing it with an orchestra, we are seeing it the way the composer originally intended it. This epic is on the album "Even in the Quietest Moments." Autographed CD at http://www.rogerhodgsonstore.com. Roger Hodgson has been recognized as one of the most gifted composers, songwriters and lyricists of our time. The songs Roger sings that are often referred to as Supertramp songs are songs that Roger wrote and composed alone - that is how he creates music. Even though Roger and Rick shared writing credit, they each wrote and composed separately with each singing their own respective songs. Roger ...

So rather than attempt to answer those questions definitively, I want to help you understand what's at stake. In this code-centric talk you'll learn some practical, real-world tactics to improve the feedback you get from the compiler, beginning with simple techniques and diving deeper to advanced ones. We'll see how types can help you safely d...

He brought great success to the Finnish and Swiss teams he managed and is fluent in five languages. Despite England's losses at the World Cup and accompanying criticism, his management is yet to display less resolution.
