The United States Geological Survey (USGS, formerly simply Geological Survey) is a scientific agency of the United States government. The scientists of the USGS study the landscape of the United States, its natural resources, and the natural hazards that threaten it. The organization has four major science disciplines, concerning biology, geography, geology, and hydrology. The USGS is a fact-finding research organization with no regulatory responsibility.
A bureau of the United States Department of the Interior, it is that department's sole scientific agency. The USGS employs approximately 8,670 people and is headquartered in Reston, Virginia. The USGS also has major offices near Lakewood, Colorado, at the Denver Federal Center, and Menlo Park, California.
The current motto of the USGS, in use since August 1997, is "Science for a changing World." The agency's previous slogan, adopted on the occasion of its hundredth anniversary, was "Earth Science in the Public Service."
Halemaʻumaʻu Crater is a pit crater located within the much larger summit caldera of Kīlauea in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The roughly circular crater floor is 770 meters (2,530 ft) x 900 m (2,950 ft) and is 83 m (270 ft) below the floor of Kīlauea caldera. Halemaʻumaʻu is home to Pele, goddess of fire and volcanoes, according to the traditions of Hawaiian mythology.
The crater is currently active, containing a lava lake. From 2008, when the current vent inside Halemaʻumaʻu crater first erupted, to April 2015, lava was present inside the vent fluctuating from 20 to 150 meters below the crater floor. On April 24, 2015 molten lava in the vent, known as the Overlook Crater, became directly visible for the first time from the Jaggar Museum overlook at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory when the lava rose to an all-time high level since the Overlook Crater first opened. A few days later, on April 29, the lava started spilling over the rim of the Overlook Crater and onto the floor of Halemaʻumaʻu Crater. The lava lake has since receded back out of view.

Don R. Swanson (October 10, 1924 - November 18, 2012) was an American information scientist, most known for his work in literature-based discovery in the biomedical domain. His particular method has been used as a model for further work, and is often referred to as Swanson linking. He was an investigator in the Arrowsmith System project, which seeks to determine meaningful links between Medline articles to identify previously undiscovered public knowledge. He had been professor emeritus of the University of Chicago since 1996, and remained active in a post-retirement appointment until his health began to decline in 2009.
Swanson received his B.S. in Physics at Caltech, Pasadena, California in 1945, followed by an M.A at Rice Institute, Houston, Texas, two years later, and then a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1952. He worked as a physicist at various laboratories until 1963, when he was made a professor and served as dean of the Graduate School of Library Science at the University of Chicago until 1972 and again from 1977–79 and 1987-89.

The San Andreas fault’s southernmost stretch has not ruptured since about 1680 — more than 330 years ago, scientists estimate. And a big earthquake happens on average in this area once every 150 or 200 years, so experts think the region is long overdue for a major quake. Read more here http://marygreeley.com/?page_id=37584
This fine video, produced by the U.S. Geological Survey in 1995, is one that I have been showing my geology students at Southwestern, MiraCosta, Miramar and Mesa Community Colleges for years now. It is an excellent introduction to physical geology, especially plate tectonics, I'm uploading it to YouTube because the MiraCosta College DSPS Department was able to get this video closed captioned, as I have a hearing-impaired student enrolled in an online course that is about to start - thanks, Robert!

Is "The Big One" imminent? Famed USGS scientist Jim Berkland, the man who predicted the Loma Prieta "World Series Earthquake," has a terrifying warning for the West Coast of the US in the wake of massive earthquakes in Ecuador and Japan that have left hundreds dead, awakened volcanoes around the Pacific Ocean's "Ring of Fire," and kicked off earthquake swarms in Hawaii, Arizona, and Yellowstone National Park. "Beware the new and full moons," Berkland says in this exclusive interview. The "maverick geologist" says that 20 of the last 25 "megaquakes" have occurred on the dates of new and full moons, the result of "equinoctal tides," extreme gravitational forces that cause solid earth to expand and contract much as ocean tides rise and fall. Berkland says that he is particularly worried abo...

www.undergroundworldnews.com USGS Has Once Again been caught trying to cover-up shallow, if not ground level, Earthquakes. This time it Centers around a 5.2 Earthquake that just struck in Southern California. The initial depth reading showed it registered in the Negative or at Ground Level. Even the global Incident map has it at just 1 km. But USGS Decided to go farther than that, and change the depth to a more average number, in the 12 km range. What is also strange about this event is the pattern from the quake swarm. The swarm it showing up in and odd formation, with many quakes hitting on a direct line of a rectangle shaped swarm perimeter. On top of this we have also had an uptick in earthquakes hitting around the New Madrid Region, Mostly in Kentucky and Tennessee. Learn More: ht...
Why and How we can change our lives by having clarity through rewriting our story, the story that is in our head.
A science scandal is now taking place in the Pacific Northwest United States, and the people along the West coast of the US are falling victim to it. There appears to be some sort of "deliberate" attempt to NOT report earthquakes striking along the West coast of Oregon / Washington State / and California. Earthquakes measuring M4.0 to M5.5 (and even a few greater) are being deliberately omitted, and in some cases reclassified as other types of events to remove the earthquake from the feeds seen by the public. This is Censorship in Science to protect incorrect statements, and protect professionals from having huge egg on their face. See it for yourself, today a M4.1 struck off the coast of Oregon , not reported by the USGS, but detected by other agencies around the world (and close to...

Ich habe keine Pizzeria
Ich hab ne schöne Eiscafé
Das ist die Treff von Schickeria
Denn meine Eis, die is OK.
Schon für sieben Mark und fünfzig
bekommst du Riesenkugel Eis,
das ist im Ganzen ziemlich günstig,
denn die Sommer isse heiß.
Ich will keine a-cappella,
ich will lieber schöne Frau.
Ich schenk ihr viele Stracciatella,
und weiter weiß ich nicht genau.
Neulich una bella donna
kommt in meine Café rein,
die hatte Kugeln von zwei Tonna,
und auch ansonsten ware fein.
Ich habe sie gefragte leise,
ob ich ihr was bringen kann,
plötzlich kommen Weise Geise,
und fangen mit die Singe an.
Frau hat geschaut wie ein Zitrone,
und ist gerannt aus mein Café,
ich kriege heut noch Agressione,
wenn ich die Weise Geise seh.
