IT'S ALMOST A YEAR since anti-capitalist protestors, intending to set up camp in front of the London Stock Exchange in Paternoster Square under the banner of Occupy LSX, were ejected from the square and parked themselves instead in front of St Paul's Cathedral. The result was one of the starting points for this film: a highly public debate about capitalism and the Church.
But there was also another power acting in the shadows to eventually eject the Occupiers - the City of London Corporation. An ancient body which dates back before William the Conqueror, before there was a parliament in Westminster, which zealously guards its autonomy and privileges to this day.
This is our subject: a secret state within a state, with deleterious effects on democracy, politics and economics in London, the country, and the world, for the City is joint headquarters with Wall Street of global finance capital. In short, 'Secret City' isn't just a film for Londoners - especially in these times of crisis, the role of the City concerns everyone everywhere.
'Secret City' is a minimal budget film by Michael Chanan and Lee Salter which investigates the history and contemporary role of the City of London Corporation. We tell the story though interviews with politicians, academics, writers, activists and campaigners, counterpointed with unfamiliar archive footage and a musical score by Simon Zagorski-Thomas taken from the nursery rhyme 'Oranges and Lemons'.

The City of London is one of the oldest parts of the capitol, as it is located where London was first founded almost 2000 years ago. The City of London roughly constitutes the same area that was mostly unaltered until the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th Century. Known as the "Square Mile", the City nowadays is roughly bounded by the River Thames to the south, Chancery Lane to the west, Charterhouse Street to the north, and the Tower of London to the east. Although the old City's gates are long gone, you can still see their location in the street names. The Tower of London
To the east of the City you'll find the Tower of London by the River Thames. The tower was built in 1066, and the imposing building still reflects its turbulent past. In its long years, the Tower has been a fortress, a state prison, and it was also used as a place of execution. Nowadays, the Tower of London is open for visitors. You can see the crown jewels, royal armor and of course the Tower's famous ravens here. Legend says that if the ravens were ever to leave the Tower, England would fall.
Leadenhall Market in the City
Leadenhall Market on Gracechurch Street dates back to the 14th century, and is one of the oldest markets in London. Previously a meat, game and poultry market, the covered market was redesigned in 1881 by Sir Horace Jones, who created a beautiful roof structure. This, coupled with the cobbled walkways and beautiful decorations, make it a popular tourist attraction. Nowadays, you can also find clothes shops and more next to the flowers and fresh produce that are still sold here. When walking through the market don't forget to look up: you can still see the hooks on the walls where fresh produce was displayed in Victorian times.
London & the River Thames
The River Thames passes the City of London to the south and runs through the center of Greater London. The Thames used to play a vital role in London's economy. Although this has changed in modern times, the river is still an essential part of the City. To explore the city in a different way, you can catch one of the riverboat tours that navigate the Thames. Pudding Lane, the Great Fire of London & St. Paul's Cathedral
The Great Fire of London started right in City of London along Pudding Lane in 1666. Near Pudding Lane you can find the Monument to the Great Fire of London, which was designed by Christopher Wren. The 61-meter-tall monument (200 feet) commemorates the fire that destroyed much of the Old City of London, including St. Paul's Cathedral and over 13 thousand houses.

Today I watched a Documentary on BBC.

Salient Features Narrated were:
1) London City is Run by and belongs to Bankers and Merchants.
2) It is separated from the Royal Territory by a Pillar with a dragon on it.
3) Even the Queen must ask permission to enter that territory.
4) The Royalty borrow Money for their Rule or Conquests from the Merchants.
5) It is a symbiotic relationship. Merchants need the Royalty to mesmerize the people and keep them hoping.
6) The City runs on Greed, Gambling and Competition.
7) Financial weapons of mass destruction are created, accepted and used.
8) You Come to the City to Live by the sword and die by the sword.
9) If you Lose, there is a door, you can Leave.
10) This is the way it has been for Centuries and will always be.
I was perplexed by this Blatant Narration.
This is the same pattern copied all over the world after 1945 and the British Colonial Rule. That is why there are many riots - People are rioting against a System they did not think will come into existence over time and by stealth. A city is a large and permanent human settlement. Although there is no agreement on how a city is distinguished from a town in general English language meanings, many cities have a particular administrative, legal, or historical status based on local law.

A big city or metropolis usually has associated suburbs and exurbs. In terms of population, the largest city proper is Shanghai, while the fastest-growing is Dubai.

There is not enough evidence to assert what conditions gave rise to the first cities. Some theorists have speculated on what they consider suitable pre-conditions and basic mechanisms that might have been important driving forces.

Tower of London
The Tower of London, officially Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London, is a historic castle located on the north bank of the River Thames in central London. It lies within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, separated from the eastern edge of the square mile of the City of London by the open space known as Tower Hill. It was founded towards the end of 1066 as part of the Norman Conquest of England. The White Tower, which gives the entire castle its name, was built by William the Conqueror in 1078, and was a resented symbol of oppression, inflicted upon London by the new ruling elite. The castle was used as a prison from 1100 (Ranulf Flambard) until 1952 (Kray twins), although that was not its primary purpose. A grand palace early in its history, it served as a royal residence. As a whole, the Tower is a complex of several buildings set within two concentric rings of defensive walls and a moat. There were several phases of expansion, mainly under Kings Richard the Lionheart, Henry III, and Edward I in the 12th and 13th centuries. The general layout established by the late 13th century remains despite later activity on the site.

The City of London is one of the oldest parts of the capitol, as it is located where London was first founded almost 2000 years ago. The City of London roughly constitutes the same area that was mostly unaltered until the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th Century. Known as the "Square Mile", the City nowadays is roughly bounded by the River Thames to the south, Chancery Lane to the west, Charterhouse Street to the north, and the Tower of London to the east. Although the old City's gates are long gone, you can still see their location in the street names. Join us on this video tour as we explore the Tower of London, Leadenhall Market, the City's financial district, St. Paul's Cathedral and more! The Tower of London To the east of the City you'll find the Tower of London by the River Thames. The tower was built in 1066, and the imposing building still reflects its turbulent past. In its long years, the Tower has been a fortress, a state prison, and it was also used as a place of execution. Nowadays, the Tower of London is open for visitors. You can see the crown jewels, royal armor and of course the Tower's famous ravens here. Legend says that if the ravens were ever to leave the Tower, England would fall. Leadenhall Market in the City Leadenhall Market on Gracechurch Street dates back to the 14th century, and is one of the oldest markets in London. Previously a meat, game and poultry market, the covered market was redesigned in 1881 by Sir Horace Jones, who created a beautiful roof structure. This, coupled with the cobbled walkways and beautiful decorations, make it a popular tourist attraction. Nowadays, you can also find clothes shops and more next to the flowers and fresh produce that are still sold here. When walking through the market don't forget to look up: you can still see the hooks on the walls where fresh produce was displayed in Victorian times. London & the River Thames The River Thames passes the City of London to the south and runs through the center of Greater London. The Thames used to play a vital role in London's economy. Title: The City of London: Money & Power Salient Features Narrated were: 1) London City is Run by and belongs to Bankers and Merchants. 2) It is separated from the Royal Territory by a Pillar with a dragon on it. 3) Even the Queen must ask permission to enter that territory. 4) The Royalty borrow Money for their Rule or Conquests from the Merchants. 5) It is a symbiotic relationship. Merchants need the Royalty to mesmerize the people and keep them hoping. 6) The City runs on Greed, Gambling and Competition. 7) Financial weapons of mass destruction are created, accepted and used. 8) You Come to the City to Live by the sword and die by the sword. 9) If you Lose, there is a door, you can Leave. 10) This is the way it has been for Centuries and will always be. I was perplexed by this Blatant Narration. This is the same pattern copied all over the world after 1945 and the British Colonial Rule. That is why there are many riots - People are rioting against a System they did not think will come into existence over time and by stealth. But there was also another power acting in the shadows to eventually eject the Occupiers - the City of London Corporation. An ancient body which dates back before William the Conqueror, before there was a parliament in Westminster, which zealously guards its autonomy and privileges to this day.
This is our subject: a secret state within a state, with deleterious effects on democracy, politics and economics in London, the country, and the world, for the City is joint headquarters with Wall Street of global finance capital. In short, 'Secret City' isn't just a film for Londoners - especially in these times of crisis, the role of the City concerns everyone everywhere.
'Secret City' is a minimal budget film by Michael Chanan and Lee Salter which investigates the history and contemporary role of the City of London Corporation. We tell the story though interviews with politicians, academics, writers, activists and campaigners, counterpointed with unfamiliar archive footage and a musical score by Simon Zagorski-Thomas taken from the nursery rhyme 'Oranges and Lemons'.

The City of London is one of the oldest parts of the capitol, as it is located where London was first founded almost 2000 years ago. The City of London roughly constitutes the same area that was mostly unaltered until the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th Century. Known as the "Square Mile", the City nowadays is roughly bounded by the River Thames to the south, Chancery Lane to the west, Charterhouse Street to the north, and the Tower of London to the east. Although the old City's gates are long gone, you can still see their location in the street names. The Tower of London
To the east of the City you'll find the Tower of London by the River Thames. The tower was built in 1066, and the imposing building still reflects its turbulent past. In its long years, the Tower has been a fortress, a state prison, and it was also used as a place of execution. Nowadays, the Tower of London is open for visitors. You can see the crown jewels, royal armor and of course the Tower's famous ravens here. Legend says that if the ravens were ever to leave the Tower, England would fall.
Leadenhall Market in the City
Leadenhall Market on Gracechurch Street dates back to the 14th century, and is one of the oldest markets in London. Previously a meat, game and poultry market, the covered market was redesigned in 1881 by Sir Horace Jones, who created a beautiful roof structure. This, coupled with the cobbled walkways and beautiful decorations, make it a popular tourist attraction. Nowadays, you can also find clothes shops and more next to the flowers and fresh produce that are still sold here. When walking through the market don't forget to look up: you can still see the hooks on the walls where fresh produce was displayed in Victorian times.
London & the River Thames
The River Thames passes the City of London to the south and runs through the center of Greater London. The Thames used to play a vital role in London's economy. 2) It is separated from the Royal Territory by a Pillar with a dragon on it.
3) Even the Queen must ask permission to enter that territory.
4) The Royalty borrow Money for their Rule or Conquests from the Merchants.
5) It is a symbiotic relationship. Merchants need the Royalty to mesmerize the people and keep them hoping.
6) The City runs on Greed, Gambling and Competition.
7) Financial weapons of mass destruction are created, accepted and used.
8) You Come to the City to Live by the sword and die by the sword.
9) If you Lose, there is a door, you can Leave.
10) This is the way it has been for Centuries and will always be.
I was perplexed by this Blatant Narration.
This is the same pattern copied all over the world after 1945 and the British Colonial Rule. That is why there are many riots - People are rioting against a System they did not think will come into existence over time and by stealth. Why am I doing this? I travel a lot. Too much. And recently I find myself rocking up in a city that I've never been to before and know very little about. On any level. Culture, language, transport, money, food, etc. But most travel shows are an hour-long, US-centric, full of bad information, and almost exclusively aimed at tourists. So I wanted to create something different. Something aimed at the frequent traveller, something portable and short-form. Something...useful.
In our pilot episode we get you in, out, and around the wonderful city of London, England. We tell you the best way to get from the airport into the city, the best way to get around, how much things cost, and why you should ALWAYS stand on the right.
In follow up episodes we'll be adding a food and drink segment, as well as tips on how to avoid those awkward social and business faux pas.

IT'S ALMOST A YEAR since anti-capitalist protestors, intending to set up camp in front of the London Stock Exchange in Paternoster Square under the banner of Occupy LSX, were ejected from the square and parked themselves instead in front of St Paul's Cathedral. The result was one of the starting points for this film: a highly public debate about capitalism and the Church.
But there was also another power acting in the shadows to eventually eject the Occupiers - the City of London Corporation. An ancient body which dates back before William the Conqueror, before there was a parliament in Westminster, which zealously guards its autonomy and privileges to this day.
This is our subject: a secret state within a state, with deleterious effects on democracy, politics and economics in London, the country, and the world, for the City is joint headquarters with Wall Street of global finance capital. In short, 'Secret City' isn't just a film for Londoners - especially in these times of crisis, the role of the City concerns everyone everywhere.
'Secret City' is a minimal budget film by Michael Chanan and Lee Salter which investigates the history and contemporary role of the City of London Corporation. We tell the story though interviews with politicians, academics, writers, activists and campaigners, counterpointed with unfamiliar archive footage and a musical score by Simon Zagorski-Thomas taken from the nursery rhyme 'Oranges and Lemons'.

The Tower of London
To the east of the City you'll find the Tower of London by the River Thames. The tower was built in 1066, and the imposing building still reflects its turbulent past. In its long years, the Tower has been a fortress, a state prison, and it was also used as a place of execution. Nowadays, the Tower of London is open for visitors. You can see the crown jewels, royal armor and of course the Tower's famous ravens here. Legend says that if the ravens were ever to leave the Tower, England would fall.
Leadenhall Market in the City
Leadenhall Market on Gracechurch Street dates back to the 14th century, and is one of the oldest markets in London. Previously a meat, game and poultry market, the covered market was redesigned in 1881 by Sir Horace Jones, who created a beautiful roof structure. This, coupled with the cobbled walkways and beautiful decorations, make it a popular tourist attraction. Nowadays, you can also find clothes shops and more next to the flowers and fresh produce that are still sold here. When walking through the market don't forget to look up: you can still see the hooks on the walls where fresh produce was displayed in Victorian times.
London & the River Thames
The River Thames passes the City of London to the south and runs through the center of Greater London. The Thames used to play a vital role in London's economy. The Great Fire of London started right in City of London along Pudding Lane in 1666. Near Pudding Lane you can find the Monument to the Great Fire of London, which was designed by Christopher Wren. The 61-meter-tall monument (200 feet) commemorates the fire that destroyed much of the Old City of London, including St. Paul's Cathedral and over 13 thousand houses.

The City of London is one of the oldest parts of the capitol, as it is located where London was first founded almost 2000 years ago. The City of London roughly constitutes the same area that was mostly unaltered until the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th Century. Known as the "Square Mile", the City nowadays is roughly bounded by the River Thames to the south, Chancery Lane to the west, Charterhouse Street to the north, and the Tower of London to the east. Although the old City's gates are long gone, you can still see their location in the street names. The Tower of London
To the east of the City you'll find the Tower of London by the River Thames. The tower was built in 1066, and the imposing building still reflects its turbulent past. In its long years, the Tower has been a fortress, a state prison, and it was also used as a place of execution. Nowadays, the Tower of London is open for visitors. You can see the crown jewels, royal armor and of course the Tower's famous ravens here. Legend says that if the ravens were ever to leave the Tower, England would fall.
Leadenhall Market in the City
Leadenhall Market on Gracechurch Street dates back to the 14th century, and is one of the oldest markets in London. Previously a meat, game and poultry market, the covered market was redesigned in 1881 by Sir Horace Jones, who created a beautiful roof structure. This, coupled with the cobbled walkways and beautiful decorations, make it a popular tourist attraction. Nowadays, you can also find clothes shops and more next to the flowers and fresh produce that are still sold here. When walking through the market don't forget to look up: you can still see the hooks on the walls where fresh produce was displayed in Victorian times.
London & the River Thames
The River Thames passes the City of London to the south and runs through the center of Greater London. The Thames used to play a vital role in London's economy. Although this has changed in modern times, the river is still an essential part of the City. To explore the city in a different way, you can catch one of the riverboat tours that navigate the Thames. I was perplexed by this Blatant Narration.

Did you know the Constitutional Queen Elizabeth II actually bows her head when entering the City of London and waits outside the City to receive an invitation before she enters. Ever since the bank of England was formed in 1694 - the Jewish owners took private ownership of the bank and have never given it up. Rather they have hidden it because in 1946 when the bank was nationalised they kept 98% of the uncalled shares and gave the British Parliament on 2 shares. The result was one of the starting points for this film: a highly public debate about capitalism and the Church.
But there was also another power acting in the shadows to eventually eject the Occupiers - the City of London Corporation. An ancient body which dates back before William the Conqueror, before there was a parliament in Westminster, which zealously guards its autonomy and privileges to this day.
This is our subject: a secret state within a state, with deleterious effects on democracy, politics and economics in London, the country, and the world, for the City is joint headquarters with Wall Street of global finance capital. In short, 'Secret City' isn't just a film for Londoners - especially in these times of crisis, the role of the City concerns everyone everywhere.
'Secret City' is a minimal budget film by Michael Chanan and Lee Salter which investigates the history and contemporary role of the City of London Corporation. We tell the story though interviews with politicians, academics, writers, activists and campaigners, counterpointed with unfamiliar archive footage and a musical score by Simon Zagorski-Thomas taken from the nursery rhyme 'Oranges and Lemons'.

London, Europe’s biggest and busiest metropolis, visited by 28 million tourists every year. They come for history, culture, and entertainment, but behind the glamour of the bright lights lies a concealed sinister city that most travellers don’t get to see. This is the Hidden City of London.
London is a city rich in history, but you won’t see it all from a double decker bus. In this programme we explore a secret subterranean world. We hunt for ghosts of centuries past, and unravel the most famous English mystery of all, Jack the Ripper.
In 1888, Jack the Ripper was the most feared name in London. The Ripper preyed upon prostitutes of the East End, in just ten weeks he savagely murdered five women, but to this day his true identity remains a mystery. In Victorian England the East End of London was a gloomy network of narrow cobbled streets shrouded in thick smog, life here was hard.
Each year on November 5th hundreds of bonfires burn across the city as millions celebrate Guy Fawkes Night. Guy Fawkes was a seventeenth century terrorist captured trying to blow up the Houses of Parliament with two tonnes of gunpowder. Fawkes was imprisoned in one of the most brutal and terrifying places of all, the Tower of London.
The West End is the Broadway of Europe. This is theatre land with over 40 playhouses in a single square mile. The Theatre Royal at Drury Lane is hundreds of years old, and seats 2500 theatre goers, both living, and dead. Mark Fox has been at the theatre since 1992, he claims to know of at least three ghosts that haunt the building, and he has a possible explanation for one of them.
In search of London’s darker mysteries we sail up the River Thames to one of the most glorious palaces in England. Hampton Court represents 500 years of royal history, and with it, countless hauntings.
Westminster, in the heart of London is Britain’s political hub and home to matters of vital national security, but these buildings were not built to withstand the impact of the Blitz of World War II. Instead Winston Churchill’s war cabinet held their meets at a top secret location below ground. Now a museum, the Churchill War Rooms have been left exactly as they were when they were abandoned in 1945.
“Hidden City of London”, is a documentary, from the “World of Mysteries” series.
