One of the best places to see great views of Athens city is from Lycabettus hill. The best method for reaching the top is by simply walking up one of the many paths, rather than paying 7 euros for the funicular railway.

Wzgórze Likavitos (Likawitos, Lycabettus) to najwyższe wzniesienie w Atenach. Ma wysokość 277 m. Na szczycie znajduje się teatr, gdzie odbywają się różnego rodzaju imprezy i koncerty, a także kawiarnia, restauracja i kościół Agios Georgios. Z góry rozpościera się wspaniały widok na miasto i okolicę. To doskonałe miejsce do obserwowania zachodu słońca, a także panoramy Aten po zmroku, z podświetlonym Akropolem.
Na górę można dostać się na dwa sposoby - samochodem od strony dzielnicy Neapoli i dalej kawałek pieszo lub kolejką torową z drugiej strony wzgórza. Kolejka kursuje od rana do późnych godzin nocnych co 30 minut. Przejazd w jedną stronę kosztuje 3,5 euro, natomiast w obie strony 7 euro.

You can walk right up to the top and not pay a penny, which is nice!
You have the option to take an underground train while runs through and under the mountain (However, to get to the start of the train, you must have walked a fair few stairs already! lol)... Plus, the journey to the top is what makes this place a great place to visit!

The hill also has a large open-air theater at the top, which has housed many Greek and International concerts

Formée au Crétacé, elle est constituée de calcaire. Elle culmine à 277 mètres et constitue le point le plus élevé de la ville d'Athènes : le panorama qu'elle offre sur la ville en fait une destination touristique appréciée. Un funiculaire permet de rejoindre le sommet où se trouve l'église Saint-Georges (Hagios Georgios), bâtie au xixe siècle.
L'étymologie de son nom n'est pas assurée. On a pensé, par exemple que cette hauteur était un refuge de loups (en grec : lukoi) ou encore qu'elle aurait porté un sanctuaire dédié à Lycos, fils de Pandion (en grec : lukios). Il semblerait qu'il faille trouver une explication sur l'existence en grec ancien d'un terme lukabas signifiant : « année ». En effet, on sait qu'en Allemagne méridionale et en Suisse, on appelle "Jahresberg" des montagnes sur le sommet desquelles l'apparition de soleil indique le commencement du printemps, et donc de l'année, dans l'ancien calendrier julien (en allemand Jahr signifie « année »). Il est possible que le Lycabette, vu d'un certain endroit, ait eu une fonction analogue, mais cela n'apparaît sur aucun document ancien.

Mit seiner Höhe von 277 m ist er die höchste Erhebung im Stadtzentrum und bietet damit eine gute Aussicht auf die Sehenswürdigkeiten Athens. Bei guten Sichtverhältnissen lässt sich von hier aus der ganze Großraum Athen und seine Kessellage zwischen Gebirgszügen und der Saronischen Golf im Süden überblicken.
Es bieten sich zwei Möglichkeiten, den Gipfel zu erklimmen: Zum einen die Fahrt mit der Standseilbahn, deren Station sich in der Odós Aristíppou befindet, auf die man stößt, wenn man der ansteigenden Odós Ploutárchou folgt. Sehr viel lohnender, wenn auch anstrengender, ist der Fußweg zum Gipfel über die Stufen durch den zwischen 1908 und 1918 vom "Verein der Waldfreunde" aufgeforsteten Wald. Der Aufstieg bietet Aussichtspunkte auf die Akropolis, das antike Stadion, das für die Olympischen Spiele von 1896 wieder aufgebaut wurde, sowie auf den Hafen vom Piräus.
Auf dem Gipfel befindet sich eine Aussichtsterasse um die kleine Sankt-Georgs-Kapelle (Ágios Geórgios) mit Blick auf das gesamte Stadtgebiet Athens sowie ein Restaurant der gehobenen Preisklasse. Der Lykabettus ist trotz seiner Aussichtsmöglichkeiten nicht in gleichem Maße von Touristen überlaufen wie andere Sehenswürdigkeiten Athens.
Weiter unterhalb der Bergspitze, am nördlichen Ende, befindet sich außerdem ein großes Freilichttheater, welches auch mit dem Auto erreicht werden kann. Dort finden jedes Jahr im Sommer Konzerte und Theateraufführungen statt.

Sprint (running)
Sprinting is the act of running over a short distance at (or near) top speed. It is used in many sports that incorporate running, typically as a way of quickly reaching a target or goal, or avoiding or catching an opponent. Human physiology dictates that a runner's near-top speed cannot be maintained for more than 30–35 seconds due to the depletion of Phosphocreatine stores in muscles, and perhaps secondarily to excessive Metabolic acidosis as a result of Anaerobic glycolysis.
In athletics and track and field, sprints (or dashes) are races over short distances. They are among the oldest running competitions. The first 13 editions of the Ancient Olympic Games featured only one event—the stadion race, which was a race from one end of the stadium to the other. There are three sprinting events which are currently held at the Summer Olympics and outdoor World Championships: the 100 metres, 200 metres, and 400 metres. Il est possible que le Lycabette, vu d'un certain endroit, ait eu une fonction analogue, mais cela n'apparaît sur aucun document ancien. Bei guten Sichtverhältnissen lässt sich von hier aus der ganze Großraum Athen und seine Kessellage zwischen Gebirgszügen und der Saronischen Golf im Süden überblicken. Es bieten sich zwei Möglichkeiten, den Gipfel zu erklimmen: Zum einen die Fahrt mit der Standseilbahn, deren Station sich in der Odós Aristíppou befindet, auf die man stößt, wenn man der ansteigenden Odós Ploutárchou folgt. Sehr viel lohnender, wenn auch anstrengender, ist der Fußweg zum Gipfel über die Stufen durch den zwischen 1908 und 1918 vom "Verein der Waldfreunde" aufgeforsteten Wald. Der Aufstieg bietet Aussichtspunkte auf die Akropolis, das antike Stadion, das für die Olympischen Spiele von 1896 wieder aufgebaut wurde, sowie auf den Hafen vom Piräus. Auf dem Gipfel befindet sich eine Aussichtsterasse um die kleine Sankt-Georgs-Kapelle (Ágios Geórgios) mit Blick auf das gesamte Stadtgebiet Athens sowie ein Restaurant der gehobenen Preisklasse. Der Lykabettus ist trotz seiner Aussichtsmöglichkeiten nicht in gleichem Maße von Touristen überlaufen wie andere Sehenswürdigkeiten Athens. A view from the top of Mount Lycabettus in Athens, its actually the highest peak in the city. There is a cafe, a theater and the famous Saint George Chapel is located in the peak. I think one of my reason I am getting sick in Greece, in part: - most car are diesel and because there is so many mountain, it is difficult for the air to circulate properly, especially how densely populated Athens is. - I am competitive athlete, I used to do rowing and mountain biking... I am extremely efficient in oxygen intake and processing, the cruse: I also take in more pollution! - People smokes absolutely everywhere... I often come out of a venue smelling like a old man - I am simply used to clean air! Anyways... still have lots of fun time here and this is probably the last video on Greece before heading to Germany Tuesday. -

Na szczycie znajduje się teatr, gdzie odbywają się różnego rodzaju imprezy i koncerty, a także kawiarnia, restauracja i kościół Agios Georgios. Z góry rozpościera się wspaniały widok na miasto i okolicę. To doskonałe miejsce do obserwowania zachodu słońca, a także panoramy Aten po zmroku, z podświetlonym Akropolem. Na górę można dostać się na dwa sposoby - samochodem od strony dzielnicy Neapoli i dalej kawałek pieszo lub kolejką torową z drugiej strony wzgórza. Kolejka kursuje od rana do późnych godzin nocnych co 30 minut. Przejazd w jedną stronę kosztuje 3,5 euro, natomiast w obie strony 7 euro.

I think one of my reason I am getting sick in Greece, in part:
- most car are diesel and because there is so many mountain, it is difficult for the air to circulate properly, especially how densely populated Athens is.
- I am competitive athlete, I used to do rowing and mountain biking... I am extremely efficient in oxygen intake and processing, the cruse: I also take in more pollution!
- People smokes absolutely everywhere... I often come out of a venue smelling like a old man
- I am simply used to clean air!
Anyways... still have lots of fun time here and this is probably the last video on Greece before heading to Germany Tuesday.

Mount Lycabettus is a Cretaceous limestone hill in Athens, Greece at 300 meters (908 feet) above sea level. Pine trees cover its base, and at its two peaks are the 19th century Chapel of St. George, a theatre, and a restaurant.
The hill is a tourist destination and can be ascended by the Lycabettus Funicular, a funicular railway which climbs the hill from a lower terminus at Kolonaki (The railway station can be found at Aristippou street).

We'll meet every Thursday at 18.00 to collect the trash that is around, to share a snack and to enjoy the sunset on the top of the hill. - Write on your snack box meal if it is vegan/vegetarian/ gluten free… (if you want to share your meal) - Bring water - Bring your own washable towels - Bring one or two trash bag/racing bag from the time you didn’t think to bring a reusable bag at the market - Gloves will be provided if you haven’t some - If you have outdoor games, feel free to bring them ! The events for July consist of two key words: Zero waste and Lycabettus!
We make a call for everyone who wants to join us to clean Lycabetous! We'll meet every Thursday at 18.00 to collect the trash that is around, to share a snack and to enjoy the sunset on the top of the hill.
- Write on your snack box meal if it is vegan/vegetarian/ gluten free… (if you want to share your meal)
- Bring water
- Bring your own washable towels
- Bring one or two trash bag/racing bag from the time you didn’t think to bring a reusable bag at the market
- Gloves will be provided if you haven’t some
- If you have outdoor games, feel free to bring them !
The last Thursday of July (27th) we'll have a closer event at Lycabetous, with music, workshops and other surprises! Stay tuned!

4η Κριτική Φωτογραφίας - Φθινόπωρο Κριτική Φωτογραφιας με θέμα το Φθινόπωρο Πριν μερικές ημέρες έκλεισαν οι συμμετοχές για την τρίτη κριτική φωτογραφίας στο teachme.gr! Το παράδοξο όπως και στην προηγούμενη κριτική φωτογραφίας είναι ότι μέχρι και σήμερα λάμβανα συμμετοχές και αυτό δείχνει την πολύ μεγάλη δίψα που έχετε για την φωτογραφία. Το όριο που είχαμε θέσει ήταν οι 50 συμμετοχές, ωστόσο βάλαμε στην κριτική (όπως θα δείτε στο video) 68 συμμετοχές! Θα θέλαμε να ευχαριστήσουμε όλους τους συμμετέχοντες οι οποίοι είχαν το θάρρος να μας στείλουν τις φωτογραφίες τους! Εξήντα Οχτώ Φωτογραφικές Συμμετοχές Η πρώτη κριτική φωτογραφίας με θέμα "το Πορτραίτο" ήταν σχεδόν βέβαιο ότι θα είχε σχετικά χαμηλή συμμετοχή λόγω του δύσκολου θέματος. Parnitha (Mont Parnes, Πάρνηθα) National Park is the highest mountain in the vicinity of Athens.
A cable car (τελεφερίκ) takes you to the top of Mount Parnitha.
It’s the main transport connection to the Regency Casino.
Η Πάρνηθα είναι βουνό της Αττικής με υψηλότερη κορυφή την Καραμπόλα (1.413 μ). Καλύπτεται από πεύκα στα χαμηλότερα και από έλατα στα ψηλότερά της μέρη. Η Πάρνηθα έχει ανακηρυχθεί περιοχή ιδιαίτερου φυσικού κάλλους και ένα σημαντικό της τμήμα απαρτίζει τον ομώνυμο Εθνικό Δρυμό. Σε μία από τις κορυφές του βουνού, το Μαυροβούνι, έχει χτιστεί το Καζίνο της Πάρνηθας (Μοντ Παρνές), στο οποίο μπορεί να φτάσει κανείς είτε με αυτοκίνητο είτε με τελεφερίκ. Το 2007 μια μεγάλη πυρκαγιά κατέστρεψε τα 2/3 της δασικής έκτασης του δρυμού της Πάρνηθας. Σπάνια φυτά του οικοσυστήματος της Πάρνηθας και τα κόκκινα ελάφια της περιοχής χάθηκαν. Λόγω της καταστροφής εκφράζονται φόβοι για δραστική αλλαγή του μικροκλίματος της Αττικής και αύξηση της μέσης θερμοκρασίας στην πόλη.

4η Κριτική Φωτογραφίας - Φθινόπωρο
Κριτική Φωτογραφιας με θέμα το Φθινόπωρο
Πριν μερικές ημέρες έκλεισαν οι συμμετοχές για την τρίτη κριτική φωτογραφίας στο teachme.gr! Το παράδοξο όπως και στην προηγούμενη κριτική φωτογραφίας είναι ότι μέχρι και σήμερα λάμβανα συμμετοχές και αυτό δείχνει την πολύ μεγάλη δίψα που έχετε για την φωτογραφία. Το όριο που είχαμε θέσει ήταν οι 50 συμμετοχές, ωστόσο βάλαμε στην κριτική (όπως θα δείτε στο video) 68 συμμετοχές! Θα θέλαμε να ευχαριστήσουμε όλους τους συμμετέχοντες οι οποίοι είχαν το θάρρος να μας στείλουν τις φωτογραφίες τους!
Εξήντα Οχτώ Φωτογραφικές Συμμετοχές
Η πρώτη κριτική φωτογραφίας με θέμα "το Πορτραίτο" ήταν σχεδόν βέβαιο ότι θα είχε σχετικά χαμηλή συμμετοχή λόγω του δύσκολου θέματος. Η δεύτερη κριτική φωτογραφίας είχε θέμα το καλοκαίρι και ακόμη περισσότερες συμμετοχές, η τρίτη κριτική φωτογραφίας με θέμα τη νύχτα έσπασε κάθε ρεκόρ και μάζεψε 99 συμμετοχές! Αυτό μας έβαλε σε σκέψεις όσον αφορά τη διάρκεια των video-κριτικής, έτσι ορίσαμε τον αριθμό των 50 συμμετοχών σε αυτή την τέταρτη συμμετοχή η οποία αν δεν παίρναμε αυτό το μέτρο θα ξεπερνούσε άνετα τις προηγούμενες 99 συμμετοχές της 3η κριτικής.
Αυτό που μας ευχαρίστησε στην 4η κριτική φωτογραφίας είναι ό,τι είδαμε ακόμη καλύτερες συμμετοχές, λιγότερο πρόχειρες και λιγότερο λάθος όσον αφορά το βασικό τους κομμάτι, Έτσι οι άσχετες αρχίζουν και εξαφανίζονται και αυτό σημαίνει ό,τι έστω και λίγο βοηθάμε και εμείς να γίνετε καλύτεροι.

Roman Architecture (HSAR 252)
Professor Kleiner discusses the rebirth of Athens under the Romans especially during the reigns of the two philhellenic emperors, Augustus and Hadrian. While some have dismissed the architecture of Roman Athens as derivative of its Classical and Hellenistic Greek past, Professor Kleiner demonstrates that the high quality of Greek marble and Greek stone carvers made these buildings consequential. In addition some structures provide evidence for the frequent and creative exchange of architectural ideas and motifs between Greece and Rome in Roman times. After a brief introduction to the history of the city of Athens, Professor Kleiner presents the monuments erected by Augustus and Agrippa on the Acropolis and in the Greek and Roman Agoras, for example the Odeion of Agrippa. Following with Hadrian's building program, she features an aqueduct and reservoir façade, the Library of Hadrian, and the vast Temple of Olympian Zeus, a project begun over six hundred years earlier. Professor Kleiner concludes the lecture with the Monument of Philopappos, a Trajanic tomb on the Mouseion Hill built for a man deprived of the kingship of Commagene by the Romans, but who made the best of the situation by becoming a suffect consul in Rome and then moving to Athens, where he died and was memorialized by his sister Balbilla.
