How to create a unique photo essay, telling stories with your photographs for beginners

Hi Photographers, Welcome to Easy Camera Lessons. Photography has the power to evoke emotions and tell stories and we want to help you get out there and tell your unique story with your photographs. So the unique storey that we are telling today is about Max Hunt, Max is a furniture designer who runs a company call Hunt Furniture , you can check out the link to his furniture in the description. What we are going to create today is called a photo essay and these can be used for blogs or editorial pieces in magazines or just to tell a unique story about someones life. The first photograph we are going take to illustrate Max's work is his hands. Hands can tell you so much about somebodies life especially if you photograph them doing something or holding an object. Okay so we have done one photograph of Max's hands and if we shoot that photograph vertically and horizontally that's two different photographs, we've got already. The next thing we are going to do to tell our story about Max is photograph him in his space. We're going to photograph the subject in their environment, this is sometimes called an environmental portrait. A little shot that's wider and shows a bit more of his workspace , we're going to show his bench and we are just going to do a portrait of Max in his space. The next photograph we are going to take is a close up of Max's face, the face has so much character and Max has a big cheeky grin so hopefully we can get a picture of that. An object sometimes holds real power it's either made by a person or owned by a person. If you have a piece of jewellery or something that belongs to that person it can tell a story about them . Okay so thats four down, we're going to take our last photograph which is a bit more loose and we are going to take it on a longer shutter speed that shows movement. So what we are going to do with this photograph is create this sense that Max is working in his studio and and there is movement and action. That's five unique photographs you can use to tell a story and if you take them horizontally and vertically you'll have ten unique photographs to tell a story.
