Orvon Grover "Gene" Autry (September 29, 1907 – October 2, 1998) was an American performer who gained fame as a singing cowboy on the radio, in movies, and on television for more than three decades beginning in the early 1930s. Autry was also owner of a television station, several radio stations in Southern California, and the Los Angeles/California/Anaheim Angels Major League Baseball team from 1961 to 1997.
From 1934 to 1953, Autry appeared in 93 films and 91 episodes of The Gene Autry Show television series. During the 1930s and 1940s, he personified the straight-shooting hero—honest, brave, and true—and profoundly touched the lives of millions of Americans. Autry was also one of the most important figures in the history of country music, considered the second major influential artist of the genre's development after Jimmie Rodgers. His singing cowboy movies were the first vehicle to carry country music to a national audience. In addition to his signature song, "Back in the Saddle Again", Autry is still remembered for his Christmas holiday songs, "Here Comes Santa Claus", which he wrote, "Frosty the Snowman", and his biggest hit, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer".

Singing cowboy movie stars like Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Gene Autry were my first movie heroes as a TV-weaned Baby Boomer kid in the early-to-mid-'50s. Fast-forwarding to 1993, when I was a PR director with Rhino Entertainment, the company's A&R; director James Austin produced the 4-CD "Songs of the West" boxed set, and yours truly, volunteered to handle the PR for the project. Roy and Dale were featured prominently on "Songs of the West," with more than a dozen of their classic recordings going back to the Sons of the Pioneers, and of course including a duet of "Happy Trails." The couple liked the project and graciously made themselves available to Rhino for a few key interviews to help us promote it. I dont own the rights to this song. Gene Autry: You Are My Sunshine. "You Are My Sunshie" became a hit for its writer, Jimmie Davis, in 1940. Davis sold more than a million copies of the song internationally. King George VI supposedly said that it was his favorite. It was featured in several movies and was used as Davis' theme song when he ran for governor of Louisiana. Gene Autry and Bing Crosby both had pop hits with it- two of the more famous recordings among more than 350 in 30 langauges, including Russian and Japanese.

I don't think any Christmas album would be complete without telling, in song, the most beautiful and inspiring story ever told, the story of Christmas.
O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight
