Hiragana, katakana and kanji are the three basic scripts in the Japanese writing system. Everyone plays up the last one, the kanji. Turns out, they weren't kidding. For me, kanji were even harder than I expected. They were actually multiple, embedded systems:
On'yomi ("sound readings") of a character come from the Japanese way of pronouncing the Chinese word for that character when it arrived in Old Japan.
Since there were multiple waves of characters reaching Japan, there are multiple on'yomi! Go-on, kan-on, tou-on (tousou-on) and kan'you-on are the four basic "Sino-Japanese" pronunciations.
Kun'yomi ("meaning readings") come from tying a native Japanese word to the character as yet another way of reading it. Yes, one character can have multiple kun'yomi, too.
There's more! Nanori are Japanese name readings for a character, and I find that they're often drastically different from the other two pronunciations.
Even after you master pronunciation, characters still behave in odd ways. I highlight some of my favorites:
- Ateji are ripped from context and used like syllable "letters", just ignoring their meaning and focusing on their sound. "Sushi" is a common example.
- Kokuji characters were created in Japan following the logic of Chinese characters.
- Shinjitai and Kyuujitai are new and old character forms. A single character can have both. Many old character forms are still well known in Japan. (This isn't the same as Simplified versus Traditional characters in China.)
- Ryakuji are abbreviations. Some are extremely common. Some of them look nothing like their full counterparts.

Kanji
Kanji (漢字; Japanese pronunciation: [kandʑi] 
listen), or kan'ji, are the adopted logographic Chinese characters (hànzì) that are used in the modern Japanese writing system along with hiragana and katakana. The Japanese term kanji for the Chinese characters literally means "Han characters" and is written using the same characters as the Chinese word hànzì.
History
Chinese characters first came to Japan on official seals, letters, swords, coins, mirrors, and other decorative items imported from China. The earliest known instance of such an import was the King of Na gold seal given by Emperor Guangwu of Han to a Yamato emissary in 57 AD. Chinese coins from the first century AD have been found in Yayoi-period archaeological sites. However, the Japanese of that era probably had no comprehension of the script, and would remain illiterate until the fifth century AD. According to the Nihon Shoki and Kojiki, a semi-legendary scholar called Wani (王仁) was dispatched to Japan by the Kingdom of Baekje during the reign of Emperor Ōjin in the early fifth century, bringing with him knowledge of Confucianism and Chinese characters.

September Dossier
Iraq's Weapons of Mass Destruction: The Assessment of the British Government, also known as the September Dossier, was a document published by the British government on 24 September 2002 on the same day of a recall of Parliament to discuss the contents of the document. The paper was part of an ongoing investigation by the government into weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in Iraq, which ultimately led to the 2003 invasion of Iraq. It contained a number of allegations according to which Iraq also possessed WMD, including chemical weapons and biological weapons. The dossier even alleged that Iraq had reconstituted its nuclear weapons programme. Without exception, all of the allegations included within the September Dossier have been since proven to be false, as shown by the Iraq Survey Group.
The much-anticipated document was based on reports made by the Joint Intelligence Committee, part of the British Intelligence 'machinery'. Most of the evidence was uncredited, ostensibly to protect sources. On publication, serious press comment was generally critical of the dossier for tameness and for the seeming lack of any genuinely new evidence. Those politically opposed to military action against Iraq generally agreed that the dossier was unremarkable, with Menzies Campbell observing in the House of Commons that:

The story takes place in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, where his lead actress is the maternal niece of the local Raja Bijendra Singh, and the motor mechanic is Kameshwar Mathur, the only son of a multi-millionaire. Kameshwar and Meenaxi meet and are instantly attracted to each other. The second scenario the Nawab creates takes place in Prague, the Czech republic, where Meenaxi is portrayed as a young woman living in a Nunnery by the name of Maria Gulcova, who has been assigned to do some research on India and it's culture. In order to do this, she meets with a young man from India, Kameshwar, and both are attracted to each other. The Nawab takes both these scenarios into consideration, and often gets so involved that it is difficult for him to distinguish fiction from reality. Watch how the Nawab and Meenaxi handle this matter, and how an ending is set for this story.

This leads to the village priest complaining to Chotey Thakur Rudra Pratap Singh that the villagers are turning away from his temple and worship. Rudra is not concerned as he himself has a TV set in his home. But when the priest informs Rudra that his sister, Kesar and Kanji are in love, Rudra makes a threat to destroy Kanaji and all of the village in the presence of a TV crew filming the whole drama - live worldwide.

The new Shogun threatens to arrest the girl unless Genshiro hunts down the woman and aborts her child. Genshiro learns that the woman releases a "musky scent from her special area" when in ecstasy. Both Genshiro and his friend set out to find all the women of the former harem and have sex with them, by force if necessary.

Hiragana, katakana and kanji are the three basic scripts in the Japanese writing system. Everyone plays up the last one, the kanji. Turns out, they weren't kidding. For me, kanji were even harder than I expected. They were actually multiple, embedded systems:
On'yomi ("sound readings") of a character come from the Japanese way of pronouncing the Chinese word for that character when it arrived in Old Japan.
Since there were multiple waves of characters reaching Japan, there are multiple on'yomi! Go-on, kan-on, tou-on (tousou-on) and kan'you-on are the four basic "Sino-Japanese" pronunciations.
Kun'yomi ("meaning readings") come from tying a native Japanese word to the character as yet another way of reading it. Yes, one character can have multiple kun'yomi, too.
There's more! Nanori are Japanese name readings for a character, and I find that they're often drastically different from the other two pronunciations.
Even after you master pronunciation, characters still behave in odd ways. I highlight some of my favorites:
- Ateji are ripped from context and used like syllable "letters", just ignoring their meaning and focusing on their sound. "Sushi" is a common example.
- Kokuji characters were created in Japan following the logic of Chinese characters.
- Shinjitai and Kyuujitai are new and old character forms. A single character can have both. Many old character forms are still well known in Japan. (This isn't the same as Simplified versus Traditional characters in China.)
- Ryakuji are abbreviations. Some are extremely common. Some of them look nothing like their full counterparts.

On'yomi ("sound readings") of a character come from the Japanese way of pronouncing the Chinese word for that character when it arrived in Old Japan.
Since there were multiple waves of characters reaching Japan, there are multiple on'yomi! Go-on, kan-on, tou-on (tousou-on) and kan'you-on are the four basic "Sino-Japanese" pronunciations.
Kun'yomi ("meaning readings") come from tying a native Japanese word to the character as yet another way of reading it. Yes, one character can have multiple kun'yomi, too.
There's more! Nanori are Japanese name readings for a character, and I find that they're often drastically different from the other two pronunciations.
Even after you master pronunciation, characters still behave in odd ways. I highlight some of my favorites:
- Ateji are ripped from context and used like syllable "letters", just ignoring their meaning and focusing on their sound. "Sushi" is a common example.
- Kokuji characters were created in Japan following the logic of Chinese characters.
- Shinjitai and Kyuujitai are new and old character forms. A single character can have both. Many old character forms are still well known in Japan. (This isn't the same as Simplified versus Traditional characters in China.)
- Ryakuji are abbreviations. Some are extremely common. Some of them look nothing like their full counterparts.

Da ist es endlich, das Einführungsvideo zu den chinesischen Schriftzeichen, den Kanji, was gleichbedeutend mit dem Startschuss für die Vorstellungsvideos jedes einzelnen Kanjis ist.
Die einzige Ausnahme wird das erste reine Kanji-Video bilden, wo ich die Zeichen für die Zahlen 1-10 in einem Rutsch abhandeln werde und an den dortigen Beispielen noch einmal kurz erläutere, wie ich weiterhin verfahren und wie ich die selbst erstellten Kanji-Arbeitsblätter dafür benutze werde.
Mit 46 1/2 Minuten ist das Video doch extrem lang geworden, aber die abgehandelten Punkte erachte ich für wichtig. Die knappe halbe Stunde, in der die Kanji bei uns im Uni-Sprachkurs eingeführ wurden, war meines Erachtens zu wenig und viel zu rasch als Einführung, ohne kleine Vorkenntnisse wäre ich da verloren gewesen. Daher habe ich mir die Zeit absichtlich genommen und nur wenig rausgeschnitten.
