Dhoom 3 ([ˈd̪ʱuːm 3], English: Blast 3 or Boom 3, also abbreviated and known as D:3 and D3) is a 2013 Indian action film, written and directed by Fahad Rao & Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Aditya Chopra. The third installment of the Dhoom series, it features Aamir Khan as the antagonist and Katrina Kaif, with Abhishek Bachchan in the lead role reprising his role of ACP Jai Dixit and Uday Chopra reprising his role as Ali Akbar, as in the previous films of the franchise. Made on a budget of ₹175 crore (US$26 million), the most expensive Indian film of all time, until it was beaten by Baahubali: The Beginning. Dhoom 3 was released on 20 December 2013, marking itself as the first Indian film to be released in the IMAX motion picture film format with Dolby Atmos surround sound.
The film broke many records on its opening days in India and abroad.Box Office India declared Dhoom 3 "the biggest hit of 2013" after two days of release, the film went on to gross ₹4 billion (US$59 million) worldwide in just ten days, to become the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time in international markets. The initial international gross of Dhoom 3 was US$28 million—eventually breaking the record of 3 Idiots (another Aamir Khan starrer) and making it the third highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time in international markets as well as the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of all time. It was the 77th highest grossing film of 2013 worldwide. The film was screened during the 2014 International Film Festival of India in the Celebrating Dance in Indian cinema section.
Katrina Kaif (pronounced [kəˈʈriːnaː ˈkɛːf], born Katrina Turquotte; 16 July 1983) is a British-Indian film actress and model. Primarily known for her work in Bollywood films, Kaif has also appeared in Telugu and Malayalam films. In addition to being one of Bollywood's highest-paid actresses, she is considered one of India's most attractive celebrities by the media.
Born in British Hong Kong, Kaif and her family lived in several countries before she moved to India. She received her first modelling assignment as a teenager and later pursued a career as a fashion model. At a fashion show in London, filmmaker Kaizad Gustad spotted Kaif and decided to cast her in Boom (2003), a critical and commercial failure. While filming in India, Kaif received modelling assignments and established a successful modelling career. However, filmmakers were hesitant to cast her due to her poor command of Hindi. After appearing in the Telugu film, Malliswari (2004), Kaif earned commercial success in Bollywood with the romantic comedies Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? (2005) and Namastey London (2007). She followed with a series of box-office hits, but was criticised for her acting, repetitive roles and inclination to male-dominated films.
Aamir Khan (pronounced [ˈaːmɪr ˈxaːn]; born Mohammed Aamir Hussain Khan on 14 March 1965) is an Indian film actor, director and producer. Through his successful career in Hindi films, Khan has established himself as one of the most popular and influential actors of Indian cinema. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including four National Film Awards and seven Filmfare Awards. He was honoured by the Government of India with the Padma Shri in 2003 and the Padma Bhushan in 2010.
Khan first appeared on screen as a child actor in his uncle Nasir Hussain's film Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973). His first feature film role came with the experimental film Holi (1984), and he began a full-time acting career with a leading role in the highly successful tragic romance Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988). His performance in the film and in the thriller Raakh (1989) earned him a Special Mention at the National Film Award ceremony. He established himself as a leading actor of Hindi cinema in the 1990s by appearing in several commercially successful films, including the romantic drama Dil (1990), the romance Raja Hindustani (1996), for which he won his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor, and the drama Sarfarosh (1999). He was also noted for playing against type in the critically acclaimed Canadian-Indian film Earth (1998).
Abhishek Bachchan (born 5 February 1976) is an Indian film actor, producer and playback singer best known for his work in Hindi films. He is the son of veteran actors Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. He made his film debut in the war drama Refugee (2000), which did not do very well at the box office, but earned him appreciation from critics. For the next few years, Bachchan starred in a series of unsuccessful films that failed to propel his career forward. Bachchan then established himself as a leading actor of Hindi cinema with the blockbuster action thriller Dhoom (2004).
Since then, he has starred in several successful films, including Bunty Aur Babli (2005), Dhoom 2 (2006), Guru (2007), Dostana (2008) and Bol Bachchan (2012). He has also featured in Dhoom 3 (2013) and Happy New Year (2014), which both rank among the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. In addition to three consecutive Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actor for his critically acclaimed performances in Yuva (2004), Sarkar (2005), and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), Bachchan has garnered the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi for producing the family dramedy Paa (2009). Since 2007, Bachchan has been married to actress Aishwarya Rai and they have one daughter born in 2011.
Uday Chopra (born 5 January 1973) is a Bollywood actor, producer, screenwriter and assistant director. He is the son of the late Yash Chopra and brother of Aditya Chopra. His sister-in-law is the actress Rani Mukerji. Uday Chopra worked as an assistant director on a number of his father's and brother's films under the Yash Raj Films banner. Chopra is the owner-manager (CEO) of YRF Entertainment and manager of Yash Raj Films along with his mother Pamela Chopra and his brother Aditya Chopra, who owns the company.
In July 2012, Chopra founded his own company, Yomics, which creates comics about famous Yash Raj Films such as Ek Tha Tiger, Dhoom and Hum Tum.
In 1994 Chopra produced Yeh Dillagi starring Akshay Kumar, Kajol and Saif Ali Khan. He made his acting debut in the movie Mohabbatein. Chopra has mostly done films under his father's production house. He starred in 2004 in the action thriller Dhoom and, in its sequel Dhoom 2, released in 2006. He also starred in Dhoom 3, the second sequel to Dhoom next to Aamir Khan in 2013. He is currently in Los Angeles learning film making at UCLA. In 2014 Chopra produced two films. Grace of Monaco the biography film about Grace Kelly starring Nicole Kidman in the leading role. He also produced the Hollywood film The Longest Week, a comedy-drama starring Olivia Wilde and Jason Bateman. It is the first project of Yash Raj Film's subsidiary Hollywood production house YRF Entertainment.
