Mehmood Ali Khan (29 September 1932 - 23 July 2004), popularly known simply as Mehmood, was an Indian actor, director and producer best known for playing comic roles in Hindi films. During his career of more than four decades, he worked in over 300 Hindi films.
Mehmood was one of eight children born to actor and dancer Mumtaz Ali in Bombay. Mehmood had an elder sister and six younger siblings. His sister, Minoo Mumtaz, was also a successful dancer and character actress in Bollywood movies. He started acting reluctantly as a child in Bombay talkie films like Kismet. Some of his early jobs before he concentrated only on acting were driving, doing odd jobs, and selling poultry. He worked as driver of director P. L. Santoshi. Later, Santoshi's son Rajkumar Santoshi cast Mehmood in his venture Andaz Apna Apna. He was hired to teach table tennis to Meena Kumari in those days. He later married her sister Madhu. After getting married and becoming a father, he decided to act to earn a better living. He got a small break as a murder victim in the film C.I.D.. He started off by doing small unnoticed roles in films like Do Bigha Zameen and Pyaasa. He later went on to act in lead roles, but he was appreciated for his comedy, some of which was in the Hyderabad region Urdu accent.
His first break as both a director and an actor was Bhoot Bangla with actress Tanuja. The movie paved the way for Mehmood to succeed Johnny Walker as the most successful Bollywood comedian. He followed his successes with superhit comic roles in films like Padosan (As a Tamil Brahmin Music Teacher- one of his greatest roles), Love in Tokyo, Aankhen, Bombay to Goa and Pyaar Kiye Jaa. He also became a sterling director of Hindi films Kunwara Baap being a prime example.
Mehmood was riding on his success from 1965 to 1985 when he was considered one of the more successful movie artists. Amitabh Bachchan was a tenant for 11 months at the Mehmood Outhouse from 1967--1968 and again from 1972-1973 (4 Months). Mehmood acted and directed Bombay to Goa in which Amitabh was a lead actor.
However, since the eighties, Mehmood's popularity began to decline as other prominent comedy actors like Jagdeep, Asrani, Paintal and Kader Khan bagged more comic roles. They were followed by Anupam Kher and Johnny Lever. Mehmood like all other contemporaries had not made wise investments and his financial prosperity began to decline. He made a handful of movies from 1989 to 1999 but most of them were either shelved or made no impression. He acted as Johny in Rajkumar Santoshi's Andaz Apna Apna; that was his last hit film as an actor.
He died in his sleep on 23 July 2004 in Pennsylvania, US, where he had gone for treatment of heart disease after suffering poor health for several years. His fans were able to pay homage to him at Mehboob Studio in Bandra, Mumbai, India.
Mehmood's son is a singer and composer who has also acted in films.

Synopsis - Lusty womanizer, army Captain Kishore, wants a gypsy dancer for himself, and is ready to kill anyone who tries to get in the way. But his plans are foiled when the woman kills herself, leaving behind an injured father, the head of the gypsies, and a younger sister by the name of Jugnu. Jugnu swears to avenge her sister's death, and seeks training from Robert Taylor, and becomes an expert in weapons and fist-fighting. She assumes the guise of a masked male and calls herself "Garam Masala", and inflicts terror in Captain Kishore's life and army. Garam Masala's attempts to kill Kishore are foiled when she is captured. She is rescued by a mysterious masked male, who disappears into the night. Kishore is clearly baffled by the appearance of two masked men, and asks his men to search high and low for them. In the meantime, Kishore returns to his kingdom, which has it's King missing for several years, and the prince - a puppet in the hands of Kishore and his men. Will the two masked men be able to bring Kishore to justice, and end his tyrannical rule over this region?

Mehmood Ali
Mehmood Ali (29 September 1932 – 23 July 2004), popularly known simply as Mehmood, was an Indian actor, singer, director and producer best known for playing comic roles in Hindi films. During his career of more than four decades, he worked in over 300 Hindi films.
Early life
Mehmood was one of eight children born to Latifunnisa and film and stage actor-cum-dancer Mumtaz Ali, who was a huge star of the 40's and 50's cinema, in Mumbai, India. Mehmood had an elder sister and six younger siblings. His sister, Minoo Mumtaz, was also a successful dancer and character actress in Bollywood movies. His youngest brother, Anwar Ali too is an actor and a producer of movies like Khud-daar and Kaash.
Career
Early career
As a child, he worked in Bombay films like Kismet. He later had a number of odd jobs, working as a table tennis teacher to Meena Kumari and as a driver for director P. L. Santoshi. Santoshi's son, Rajkumar Santoshi, would later cast him in the film Andaz Apna Apna.
After getting married and becoming a father, he decided to act to earn a better living starting with a small break as a killer in the film CID. He started off by doing small, unnoticed roles in films like the peanut seller in Do Bigha Zameen and Pyaasa. He later went on to act in lead roles, but he was appreciated for his comedy, some of which was in the Hyderabad region's Urdu accent.

Plot: Ever since his birth, Deepak has been led to believe that he has brought nothing but bad luck to everyone around him. His dad passes away on the day of his birth, shortly thereafter his mom passes away in shock. When his sister, Rekha, and he are looked after by their maternal uncle, Dayal Das, their house collapses, but they find some hidden jewelry and are able to better their lives, but both siblings are ill-treated by Dayal's wife, Tara. Plot: After tyrannical Commander Jabbir kills his father, Mehmood, along with his brother, Mehboob; sister, Yasmin; friend, Badru, and others decide to become bandits and loot the rich. Mehmood, now known as Baghdad Ka Chor, falls in love with Shehzadi Rukhsana, who detests him, and sets out to hunt him down after she finds out that he has abducted her brother. Plot: Shortly after independence India faces terrorists attacks in Assam, resulting in many deaths and casualties. A group of concerned citizens, who are not connected with the Government, decide to do something to stop this carnage. While Salim is already at work in Beirut, his cover is blown and he is shot dead. Now Sunil Mehra must travel to Beirut and take over from Salim. Once there, he meets a former flame, Meenakshi Mehta, and also a female admirer by the name of Zenab. The terrorists are headed by a man named Syed, who deputes one of his assistants, Madame, to spy on Sunil's dad, Diwan Chand Mehra, by posing as Mehra's daughter's aunt, forcing her to obey by abducting her son, Babloo, and holding him captive. Soon Syed and his associates, including Doctor X and Captain find out all secrets of Mehra, as a result of which Sunil is trapped and held by Syed. Then Diwan's world is shattered when Meenakshi telephonically informs him that Sunil has been killed. The question remains what will happen to Babloo, Diwan, and the rest of the concerned citizens, especially when they have become vulnerable due to Madame's presence in their very household.

When Dhamu fails, he sends Mirza Usman, and when Mirza too fails to bring Rajendra home, Kailashnath himself sets out himself, but when he reaches them, he finds that the children have already left for home. Angered at his son for mixing with poor students, he decides to remove him from the school and have him taught at home - and the person he has recruited is none other than Shaktimaan Singh - a Circus Ringmaster. Mehmood Ali Khan (29 September 1932 - 23 July 2004), popularly known simply as Mehmood, was an Indian actor, director and producer best known for playing comic roles in Hindi films. During his career of more than four decades, he worked in over 300 Hindi films.
Mehmood was one of eight children born to actor and dancer Mumtaz Ali in Bombay. Mehmood had an elder sister and six younger siblings. His sister, Minoo Mumtaz, was also a successful dancer and character actress in Bollywood movies. He started acting reluctantly as a child in Bombay talkie films like Kismet. Some of his early jobs before he concentrated only on acting were driving, doing odd jobs, and selling poultry. He worked as driver of director P. L. Santoshi. Later, Santoshi's son Rajkumar Santoshi cast Mehmood in his venture Andaz Apna Apna. He was hired to teach table tennis to Meena Kumari in those days. He later married her sister Madhu. After getting married and becoming a father, he decided to act to earn a better living. He got a small break as a murder victim in the film C.I.D.. He started off by doing small unnoticed roles in films like Do Bigha Zameen and Pyaasa. He later went on to act in lead roles, but he was appreciated for his comedy, some of which was in the Hyderabad region Urdu accent.
His first break as both a director and an actor was Bhoot Bangla with actress Tanuja. The movie paved the way for Mehmood to succeed Johnny Walker as the most successful Bollywood comedian. He followed his successes with superhit comic roles in films like Padosan (As a Tamil Brahmin Music Teacher- one of his greatest roles), Love in Tokyo, Aankhen, Bombay to Goa and Pyaar Kiye Jaa. He also became a sterling director of Hindi films Kunwara Baap being a prime example.
Mehmood was riding on his success from 1965 to 1985 when he was considered one of the more successful movie artists. Amitabh Bachchan was a tenant for 11 months at the Mehmood Outhouse from 1967--1968 and again from 1972-1973 (4 Months). Mehmood acted and directed Bombay to Goa in which Amitabh was a lead actor.
However, since the eighties, Mehmood's popularity began to decline as other prominent comedy actors like Jagdeep, Asrani, Paintal and Kader Khan bagged more comic roles. They were followed by Anupam Kher and Johnny Lever. Mehmood like all other contemporaries had not made wise investments and his financial prosperity began to decline. He made a handful of movies from 1989 to 1999 but most of them were either shelved or made no impression. He acted as Johny in Rajkumar Santoshi's Andaz Apna Apna; that was his last hit film as an actor.
He died in his sleep on 23 July 2004 in Pennsylvania, US, where he had gone for treatment of heart disease after suffering poor health for several years. His fans were able to pay homage to him at Mehboob Studio in Bandra, Mumbai, India.
Mehmood's son is a singer and composer who has also acted in films.

Synopsis - Lusty womanizer, army Captain Kishore, wants a gypsy dancer for himself, and is ready to kill anyone who tries to get in the way. But his plans are foiled when the woman kills herself, leaving behind an injured father, the head of the gypsies, and a younger sister by the name of Jugnu. Jugnu swears to avenge her sister's death, and seeks training from Robert Taylor, and becomes an expert in weapons and fist-fighting. She assumes the guise of a masked male and calls herself "Garam Masala", and inflicts terror in Captain Kishore's life and army. Garam Masala's attempts to kill Kishore are foiled when she is captured. She is rescued by a mysterious masked male, who disappears into the night. Kishore is clearly baffled by the appearance of two masked men, and asks his men to search high and low for them. In the meantime, Kishore returns to his kingdom, which has it's King missing for several years, and the prince - a puppet in the hands of Kishore and his men. Will the two masked men be able to bring Kishore to justice, and end his tyrannical rule over this region?

For example there was a film called Mem Saab and Meena Kumari was heroine , she was my relative... She was my sister-in-law. She was the heroine of that movie and 5-6 boys have come for the interview for audition and they talk to her. When my turn came I remember director was Mr. Talwar, so I said excuse me sir should I copy Mr Pradeep Kumar? That time Pradeep Kumar was on the top. Pradeep kumar's urdu was really...... then I asked the director that can I speak like him for the audition. Then director asked me to do so. and he used to like it."

Hindi film actor Mehmood speaks about his comedy in Hindi films. He says " You can see my face, big nose, big nose, ugly face, I never thought that I will become comedian. I was thinking that I will go for negative roles. Filmmakers were pushing me for roles wherever they have given me push I gone there. As a junior artist I was working. Then I started getting bit roles like CID and all. After that I started getting nice roles like opposite Raj Kapoor in Film Parvarish."

As a child, he worked in Bombay films like Kismet. He later had a number of odd jobs, working as a driver for director P. L. Santoshi. Santoshi's son, Rajkumar Santoshi, would later cast him in the film Andaz Apna Apna.
After getting married to yesteryear superstar Meena Kumari's younger sister Madhu and becoming a father, he decided to act to earn a better living starting with a small break as a killer in the film CID. He started off by doing small, unnoticed roles in films like the peanut seller in Do Bigha Zameen and Pyaasa. He later went on to act in lead roles, but he was appreciated for his comedy, some of which was in the Hyderabad region's Urdu accent.

Mehmood was one of eight children born to actor and dancer Mumtaz Ali in Bombay. Mehmood had an elder sister and six younger siblings. His sister, Minoo Mumtaz, was also a successful dancer and character actress in Bollywood movies. He started acting reluctantly as a child in Bombay talkie films like Kismet. Some of his early jobs before he concentrated only on acting were driving, doing odd jobs, and selling poultry. He worked as driver of director P. L. Santoshi. Later, Santoshi's son Rajkumar Santoshi cast Mehmood in his venture Andaz Apna Apna. He was hired to teach table tennis to Meena Kumari in those days. He later married her sister Madhu. After getting married and becoming a father, he decided to act to earn a better living. He got a small break as a murder victim in the film C.I.D.. He started off by doing small unnoticed roles in films like Do Bigha Zameen and Pyaasa. He later went on to act in lead roles, but he was appreciated for his comedy, some of which was in the Hyderabad region Urdu accent.
His first break as both a director and an actor was Bhoot Bangla with actress Tanuja. The movie paved the way for Mehmood to succeed Johnny Walker as the most successful Bollywood comedian. He followed his successes with superhit comic roles in films like Padosan (As a Tamil Brahmin Music Teacher- one of his greatest roles), Love in Tokyo, Aankhen, Bombay to Goa and Pyaar Kiye Jaa. He also became a sterling director of Hindi films Kunwara Baap being a prime example.
Mehmood was riding on his success from 1965 to 1985 when he was considered one of the more successful movie artists. Amitabh Bachchan was a tenant for 11 months at the Mehmood Outhouse from 1967--1968 and again from 1972-1973 (4 Months). Mehmood acted and directed Bombay to Goa in which Amitabh was a lead actor.
However, since the eighties, Mehmood's popularity began to decline as other prominent comedy actors like Jagdeep, Asrani, Paintal and Kader Khan bagged more comic roles. They were followed by Anupam Kher and Johnny Lever. Mehmood like all other contemporaries had not made wise investments and his financial prosperity began to decline. He made a handful of movies from 1989 to 1999 but most of them were either shelved or made no impression. He acted as Johny in Rajkumar Santoshi's Andaz Apna Apna; that was his last hit film as an actor.
He died in his sleep on 23 July 2004 in Pennsylvania, US, where he had gone for treatment of heart disease after suffering poor health for several years. His fans were able to pay homage to him at Mehboob Studio in Bandra, Mumbai, India.
Mehmood's son is a singer and composer who has also acted in films.
