Leith /ˈliːθ/; Scottish Gaelic: Lìte; is a district to the north of the city of Edinburgh at the mouth of the Water of Leith.
The earliest surviving historical references are in the royal charter authorising the construction of Holyrood Abbey in 1128. The medieval settlements of Leith had grown into a burgh by 1833, and the burgh was merged into Edinburgh in 1920.
Leith is sited on the coast of the Firth of Forth and lies within the council area of the City of Edinburgh.
The port remains one of its most valuable enterprises, handling over 1.5 million tonnes of cargo a year in 2003.
Previous to the bridge being built in the late 15th century, Leith had settlements on either side of the river, lacking an easy crossing.
South Leith was larger and was controlled by the lairds of Restalrig: the Logan family. It was based on trade and had many merchants' houses and warehouses. This was where ships offloaded their cargoes at The Shore where they were collected by Edinburgh merchants. Leithers were explicitly forbidden by statute to participate directly in the trade at the port, to ensure that landed goods were not sold elsewhere.
Sunshine on Leith may refer to:
Paul Craig Cobb (born circa 1951), better known as Craig Cobb, is an American-Canadianwhite nationalist, white separatist, Neo-Nazi, antisemite and Holocaust denier who operates the video sharing website Podblanc. He claims "my race is my religion" and advocates "racial holy war" in accordance with the tenets of the Creativity religion. Cobb gained notoriety within anti-racist and anti-fascist movements and legal advocacy organizations that investigate hate speech and hate crimes for his "celebration of violence and murder committed against minorities" as documented in his video recordings, online activities, and disruptions at public events.
Cobb is known for his movement to dominate the city of Leith, North Dakota with other white supremacists. The community of sixteen inhabitants has one African-American resident, who is married to a white woman. Cobb, who moved to Leith in 2012, attracted other white supremacists to the town and has Neo-Nazi paraphernalia displayed on his property. As a result, local residents and anti-racist organizations have organized a protest in Leith against Cobb and his allies. Cobb has appeared on several radio talk shows and the The Trisha Goddard Show, to talk about his plans for the white supremacy movement in Leith. Welcome to Leith, a documentary film about Cobb's attempt to take over Leith, was released in 2015.

The Scottish capital of Edinburgh is one of the world’s most beautiful cities. Its Old Town and Royal Mile are filled with the ghosts of medieval merchants, body snatchers, and poets, while its Georgian-styled New Town shines with the glories of the Scottish Enlightenment. To see Edinburgh in all her glory, climb to Arthur’s Seat, the highest of the city’s seven peaks. Some historians believe this was the site of King Arthur’s legendary castle Camelot. Nearby, on another volcanic crag, rises Edinburgh Castle, the very symbol of Scotland itself. Over the last eleven centuries, this castle has been laid siege to 26 times but still it stands, a testimony to the indomitable spirit of the Scots. Edinburgh has long held a special place in the hearts of the monarchy. Her Majesty’s Yacht Br...
Restuarants in Edinburgh - Scotland World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Edinburgh - Scotland Travel Guide http://goo.gl/AeX8IX Edinburgh's centre of gastronomic gravity has been shifting gradually north for several years and the historic port of Leith is now home to two of the city's four Michelin stars. Leith also has many good non-Michelin-starred restaurants, clustered around the Shore area and the Scottish Government building. Fans of fish and seafood, in particular, would be well advised to make the pilgrimage down Leith Walk. Of course there are still many good restaurants in the city centre and the New Town, as well as neighbourhood bistros in more out-of-the-way corners. The Edinburgh restaurants below have been classed into different price ranges: Expensive (over...

Edinburgh has everything: high culture and haute couture, stand-up comedy and country walks, and of course Edinburgh Castle, perched on its volcanic crag overlooking the medieval buildings of the Old Town and the magnificent Georgian architecture of the New Town. Together, they make up the UNESCO-listed World Heritage site. Better still, Edinburgh's compact size means the city's main sites are easily explored on foot. Nevertheless, plans for a new tram link from the airport to the city from May 2014 will b...

With jaw-dropping cinematic landscapes almost everywhere you go, it’s no surprise that Hollywood directors have cast Scotland in several blockbuster films. As you explore, see if you recognise any of these places from your favourite flicks. Take a trip aboard the Jacobite Steam Train, which travels over the structure during the summer months, travelling from Fort William to Mallaig. The mysterious Glen Etive is another famous filming location, known for its dramatic role in Skyfall, as James Bond flees for safety along the A82 road. A haven for walkers and climbers, the area is laced with Munros and pleasant walking trails. In Edinburgh, visit some of the cit...
Lethe
Give me the drink of the fluid
That disintegrates
And lend me the sweet balm and blessing
Of forgetfulness, empty and strong
Hold me near, unravel the stars
As I speed through the heavens
Speed through the night
For you are my blade and my rope
Your are my
Lethe
In currents of cobalt
You storm through my heart
To sever, to puncture
The memories that burn
Let sweep through the arteries
In sharp stabs of pain
Your talonlike fingers to kill me again
Steal me, invade me and charge me again
For I burn and I shudder
Burn with each movement of
So, cleansed through a floodlight
I appear; reforged and renewed
Caressed by the sweet balm and blessing
Of forgetfulness, empty and strong
Lethe,
Hold me near, my one friend and guide
As I drown through your fingers
Drown through your love
For you are the life I hate
You are my
Lethe
Drag me down, in passionate sighs
With the ocean above me
And flames in my eyes
And grant me a life I can live
