Robotics is called the branch of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science that deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of robots, as well as computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing.
These technologies deal with automated machines that can take the place of humans in dangerous environments or manufacturing processes, or resemble humans in appearance, behavior, and or cognition. Many of today's robots are inspired by nature contributing to the field of bio-inspired robotics.
The concept of creating machines that can operate autonomously dates back to classical times, but research into the functionality and potential uses of robots did not grow substantially until the 20th century. Throughout history, it has been frequently assumed that robots will one day be able to mimic human behavior and manage tasks in a human-like fashion. Today, robotics is a rapidly growing field, as technological advances continue; researching, designing, and building new robots serve various practical purposes, whether domestically, commercially, or militarily. Many robots do jobs that are hazardous to people such as defusing bombs, finding survivors in unstable ruins, and exploring mines and shipwrecks.
Flying may refer to:
A robot is a mechanical or virtual artificial agent, usually an electro-mechanical machine that is guided by a computer program or electronic circuitry. Robots can be autonomous or semi-autonomous and range from humanoids such as Honda's Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility (ASIMO) and TOSY's TOSY Ping Pong Playing Robot (TOPIO) to industrial robots, medical operating robots, patent assist robots, dog therapy robots, collectively programmed swarm robots, UAV drones such as General Atomics MQ-1 Predator, and even microscopic nano robots. By mimicking a lifelike appearance or automating movements, a robot may convey a sense of intelligence or thought of its own.
The branch of technology that deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of robots, as well as computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing is robotics. These technologies deal with automated machines that can take the place of humans in dangerous environments or manufacturing processes, or resemble humans in appearance, behavior, and/or cognition. Many of today's robots are inspired by nature contributing to the field of bio-inspired robotics. These robots have also created a newer branch of robotics: soft robotics.

A startup called KMel Robotics this week dropped a YouTube video of its programmed drones playing the Richard Strauss composition famously featured in 2001: A Space Odyssey, as well as "Carol of the Bells" and "The Star-Spangled Banner."
The Fleye — pronounced "fly" — houses its propeller inside a protective cage, giving the drone the look of Star Wars droid that mastered the power of flight. Fleye is also focused on providing you with a floating camera — a full HD camera is attached to the top of the drone. You control the Fleye's altitude and what direction it goes during its 10-minute flights, but the drone itself handles the task of staying aloft. Indeed, during a demo on the CES show floor — it's all right to fly the Fleye indoors since its propeller is safely tucked away — one of the Fleye booth workers would occasionally walk up to the drone and push it off its flight path. In every instance, the drone was able to stabilize itself.

Originally published on November 15, 2013 Twenty-three-year-old Colombian designer Adrian Perez Zapata designed a home-cleaning system that has won the top prize at the Electrolux Design Lab competition. According to Zapata, his design was inspired by the controlled flight of bees. The technology, called The Mab, is a circular automated cleaning system that scans an entire house for areas that need to be cleaned, then deploys hundreds of tiny, flying robots to carry out the task. The Mab comes with a total of 908 robots, which are solar powered and each clean using one drop of water. The main docking device itself is equipped with a filter to keep reusable water clean, and pills which are deposited into the system through a capsule give water viscosity and surface tension to help the ro...
Researchers created an autonomous flying robot that mimics the morphological properties of bat wings. Bat Bot has an ultra-thin (56 micron) silicone-based membrane, it’s a fully self-contained, autonomous flying robot and weighs 93 grams. Bat Bot can fly in a straight line, turn and dive. Scientists at Harvard University have created a flying robot that can sit on a fingertip. Inspired by the biology of a fly, the robot is able to perform the agile movements of an insect. Researchers at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) put a decade's work into developing the penny-sized robot, before it took off for the first time.
