Sagbohan et son orchestre partageront la soirée avec Vaudou Game et l'irremplaçable Roger Damawuzan ainsi que Batida. Une soirée à ne pas rater.

Chers auditeurs, le morceau de Sagbohan que je partage aujourd'hui n'a jamais été édité car il a une histoire. En 1992, Sagbohan est invité par l'UNESCO pour jouer à Paris. Pour son premier concert hors du continent, Sagbohan se transcende. Il fait la promotion du Vodou et fait même monter sur scène des masques sacrés Zangbeto. Mais le message ne passe pas au Bénin et la critique est virulente. On parle de la mort de Sagbohan.

En 2000, je rencontre Danialou Sagbohan et je lui demande de participer à un documentaire. Comme c'est pour une télévision française, il propose de répondre à ce malheureux concert parisien. Pour faire passer un message il propose de jouer en live dans une forêt sacrée sur une île du fleuve Ouémé. Il chante ce morceau inédit, un titre sous forme d'excuses dédié aux dieux Vodous. Il y a des esprits dans cet enregistrement effectué dans une forêt profonde et sacrée.

VYCKOSS (Gabon/1973)

Auteur, compositeur, interprète et chorégraphe, Vyckos Ekondo a lancé son propre style, le tandima puisant dans les sonorités et la spiritualité gabonaises.

A l’âge de 18 ans, Vyckos Ekondo se lance dans la musique au Lycée Léon M’Ba de Libreville puis, après des études au Canada, anime une émission à la télévision gabonaise, "L’idole du dimanche" qui lance de jeunes talents nationaux.

C’est en 1985 qu’il crée le concept du tandima, à la fois style musical et danse destiné à revaloriser la patrimoine gabonais. En 1992, le Tandima, formation mixte d’une vingtaine de danseurs et musiciens, tourne internationalement . Depuis cette date, Vyckos et le Tandima représentent la culture traditionnelle Gabonaise dans de nombreux festivals internationaux.

KONDE MANGUE & Les 5 Consuls (Burkina-Faso/1976)

Every day, every where another terrorist attack. Let's resist with famous Burkinabese singer and guitarist Kondé Mangue and its "Pop Konde". Recorded in 1976 on Volta Discobel label. The second title "Woulouni" can be found on "Voltaique Panoramique Volume 1" Compilation.

Chaque jour, chaque pays est visé par un attentat. Resisitons un peu avec ce morceau du fameux guitariste et chanteur Burkinabais Kondé Mangue. Enregisyté en 1976 sue le label Volta Discobel. L'autre titre "Woulouni" est trouvable sur la compilation "Voltaique Panoramique Volume 1".

T.P. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo (Volume 1)

Dear listeners, it has been a long time without posting records. Last few months were not the best for music in Paris. Anyway i am back and i will try to share music as much as i can with you. Let's begin this new year with a famous and rare album of Poly-Rythmo. Vincent Ahehehinou composed and sang on this 1977's record. Unfortunately, I don't own the record so I have only two tracks to share.

Chers auditeurs, cela fait longtemps que je n'ai pas posté de disques. Ces derniers mois n'étaient pas les meilleurs pour la musique à Paris. Mais je suis de retour et je vais essayer cette année de partager avec vous le plus de disques possible. Commençons par un album du Poly-Rythmo aussi célèbre que rare, composé et chanté par Vincent Ahehehinnou vers 1977. Malheureusement je ne possède pas le disque donc je n'ai que deux titres à vous offrir.

SAGBOHAN: "Zoun Min Ti Gbo" (1983)

"Zoun Min Ti Gbo" is a funeral song usually sung by Sagbohan during burials. After Paris tragedy, he hesitated to come for his concert but his son, Raimi, and the band pushed Sagbohan to honor his coming. I think this beautiful song recorded in 1983 reflects our mood, here in Paris.

"Zoun Min Ti Gbo" est un morceau funéraire que Sagbohan chante pour les enterrements. Après la tragédie de Paris, il a hésité à venir en concert dans la capitale française, mais son fils Raimi et l'orchestre l'ont pousser à honorer sa venue. Je pense que ce sublime morceau enregistré en 1983 correspond à notre humeur, ici, à Paris.

SAGBOHAN: "Houhon" (1997)

I hope we'll have the chance to hear this beautiful title on Sagbohan's Paris concert on 29th of November. "Houhon" was recorded in 1997, taken from the album "Hommages aux Forces Armées Béninoises".

J'espère que le public parisien aura la chance d'entendre ce sublime morceau durant le concert de Sagbohan le 29 novembre prochain. "Houhon" a été enregistré en 1997 et figure sur l'album "Hommages aux Forces Armées Béninoises".

New band of Benin on Oro: "Les Génis de Cotonou". I had never heard of them and it is a very good surprise. Singer Lay José sings two great titles: The soul and djerk "E Non Ve Nou Kinto" and pachanga "Se Na Se Do". Have pleasure.

Dan Satch Joseph leader of his The Atomic "8" Dance Band is a pure tone trumpeter and arranger. Dan Satch started playing the trumpet in 1959 and was the trumpeter leader of Bobby Benson & his Jam Session Band until 1961. In 1962 he moved to Aba and formed the Atomic "8" Dance Band.

K. FRIMPONG & His Cubano Fiestas (Ghana/1980)

K.Frimpong recorded this album backed by the Cubanos Fiesta was edited in 1980 on Polydor's label. This album is composed of beautiful highlife and afrobeat tunes. As you may notice, the title "Nye Mea" is a remake of "Kyenkyen Bi Adi Mawu". Very interesting piece. To finish, Alhaji K. Frimpong passed away in 2005. Long life to his music and soul...

K.Frimpong enregistre cet album avec l'orchestre The Cubanos Fiesta en 1980 sur le label Polydor. L'album est riche de rythmes highlife et afrobeat. Vous pourrez noter que le morceau "Nye Mea" est un remake de "Kyenkyen Bi Adi Mawu". Album très intéressant Pour finir avec Alhaji K.Frimpong, sachez qu'il est décédé en 2005. Que âme et sa musique reposent en paix.

K. FRIMPONG & VIS-A-VIS (Ghana/1978)

Here is this the seriously rare album shared by Ogoun Ferraille. Thank you to him.
In the mid-70s, K. Frimpong recorded with two orchestras simultaneously. Let's begin with the Vis-A-Vis band. The first album was recorded in 1977 on the label Probisco Records (KBL 068). It has been reissued later on Makossa International Records (MA 7076). One of the best Vis-A-Vis album.

Vis-A-Vis was led by Isaac Yeboah, based in Kumasi and featuring some of the Ghana's finest musicians of the 70's: Sammy Cropper on lead guitar, Slim Yaw on bass and Kung-fu Kwaku on drums. This other album with Vis-A-Vis was recorded in 1978 on the label Ofori Brothers.

Bony Castro & LES AS DU BÉNIN (Ivory-Coast/Togo)

This rare album was composed and sung in 1980 by Ivory-Coast singer Bony Castro backed by togolese band "Les As du Bénin". The music is similar to Ernesto Djedje ziglibithy' style.

Lemed Janvier & AFRICAN ALL STARS (Congo-Bénin/1982)

This is a rare album of Lemed Janvier with African All Stars led by Sam Mangwana. Soukous as usual with Lemed.

Kpedjolemed Janvier was born in 1949 in Cove, benin. he started music at college. his father saw in him the desire to become a musician and asked him to go study at the INZA (National Arts Institute of Zaïre). But Janvier anticipates integrating the Poly-Rythmo orchestra with whom he recorded his first title: "Sais-tu que je t'aime". At the insistence of his father, he joined, in 1979, the orchestra "Les Volcans de la Capitale", which was the national orchestra, and recorded three albums. Finally, he went to study in Zaïre and joined, as singer, the Afrisa International Tabu Rey Rochereau's band. He recorded three albums: "Mea Culpa", "Akuotowévo" and finally "Lemed in Kinshasa". Lemed janvier passed away on January 11, 2011 at the age of 62.

Tito Puente: "Homenaje A Beny" (Cuba/1979)

1979 release. Second in a series of tributes to one of Cubas' greatest songwriting soneros: Beny More. Tito Puente's 1970s and 80s recordings are best known for the straight ahead salsa, while the later material is more Latin jazz. His musical career lasted over 50 years.
