Shanice

Shanice Lorraine Wilson-Knox (born May 14, 1973), better known as Shanice, is a Grammy-nominated American R&B/pop-rock singer, songwriter, and actress. She had the Top 10 Billboard hit singles "I Love Your Smile" and "Silent Prayer" in 1991 and "Saving Forever for You" in 1993. In 1999, Shanice scored another hit song, "When I Close My Eyes," which peaked at number #12 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. She is recognized for her coloratura soprano voice and her ability to sing in the whistle register.

Early life

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Wilson relocated to Los Angeles with her mother and aunt (Crystal and Penny) who were themselves interested in pursuing careers in the music industry. They soon abandoned their aspirations of stardom, instead focusing their efforts on young Shanice; forming the management company Krystal Penny to cultivate and promote her talents. At age 9, Shanice appeared in a Kentucky Fried Chicken commercial with the legendary jazz vocalist Ella Fitzgerald. In 1984, she appeared as a regular in season 1, episodes 1-14 of the children's program Kids Incorporated and was replaced by Carletta Prince in season 1, episode 15 of this show. At age 11, Shanice competed on Star Search. Shortly after her appearance on Star Search, she was signed to A&M Records.

I Love

"I Love" is a song written and recorded by American country music artist Tom T. Hall. It was released in October 1973 as the only single from the album, For the People in the Last Hard Town. The song would be Hall's most successful single and was his fourth number one on the U.S. country singles chart. The single spent two weeks at the top and a total of 15 weeks on the chart. "I Love" was Hall's only entry on the Top 40 peaking at number 12.

"I Love" was used, with altered lyrics, in a popular 2003 TV commercial for Coors Light.

The song was used in the film For No Good Reason.

"I Like", a parody version by Heathen Dan, was released on the 1983 compilation album The Rhino Brothers Present the World's Worst Records.

In 1975, the Shaggs recorded a cover of "I Love" which was intended for their never-finished second album. It was eventually released on the 1982 compilation album, "Shagg's Own Thing".

The Minneapolis band Low recorded a cover of "I Love" as a wedding present for two of their friends (Along with a falling-apart cover of Journey's "Open Arms"); Both covers were eventually released on Low's compilation box set, "A Lifetime Of Temporary Relief".

I Love Your Smile

"I Love Your Smile" is a hit single recorded by R&B singer Shanice and released in 1991 as the first single from her album Inner Child. The song features saxophonist Branford Marsalis. It met success in many countries, including U.S., where it reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

It went to number one on the Billboard R&B charts, where it stayed number one for 4 weeks in December 1991.

To date, it is her best known and most successful hit.Talib Kweli referenced the song in his single "Hot Thing".

Background and writing

The song features a saxophone solo by Branford Marsalis. The radio and video version of the song edits out the rap bridge from the album version. Janet Jackson and René Elizondo, Jr. can be heard laughing at the end of the song. The track was crafted by producer Louis Biancaniello and the vocals were captured by producer Narada Michael Walden.

Music video

In the music video, Shanice is in a studio having several pictures taken by a photographer. One scene shows her in a leather jacket, another has her sitting in a chair in front of a microphone stand, and another has her dancing with several backup dancers. In the middle of the video, Shanice walks through the park and the photographer hides behind a tree while he takes more pictures of her. At the end, Shanice offers to take a picture of a family, and then takes a picture of the photographer.

Your Smile

"Your Smile" is a 1986 R&B/Soul single from American singing duo René & Angela. Released on February 5, 1986, It was the third single from René & Angela's album, Street Called Desire. "Your Smile" was the duo's second number-one single on Billboard's R&B chart. It was also a minor hit on the Billboard Hot 100 peaking at number sixty-two. Along with the track, " Drive My Love", "Your Smile" was minor hit on the U.S. Dance chart, peaking at number forty-seven.
