The Hague (/ðə ˈheɪɡ/; Dutch: Den Haag pronounced [dɛnˈɦaːx] or 's-Gravenhage pronounced [ˈsxraːvə(n)ˌɦaːɣə]) is the seat of government in the Netherlands, and the capital city of the province of South Holland. With a population of 515,880 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2015) and more than one million inhabitants including the suburbs, it is the third-largest city of the Netherlands, after Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The Rotterdam The Hague Metropolitan Area, with a population of approximately 2.7 million, is the 12th-largest in the European Union and the most populous in the country. Located in the west of the Netherlands, The Hague is in the centre of the Haaglanden conurbation and lies at the southwest corner of the larger Randstad conurbation.
The Hague is the seat of the Dutch government and parliament, the Supreme Court, and the Council of State, but the city is not the capital of the Netherlands which constitutionally is Amsterdam. King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands plans to live at Huis ten Bosch and works at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague, together with Queen Máxima. Most foreign embassies in the Netherlands and 150 international organisations are located in the city, including the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, which makes The Hague one of the major cities hosting the United Nations, along with New York, Geneva, Vienna, Rome and Addis Ababa.
Timothy Edward Lee Hague (born May 9, 1983) is a Canadian mixed martial artist currently competing in the Heavyweight division of the World Series of Fighting. A professional competitor since 2006, Hague has also formerly competed for the UFC. Hague is the former King of the Cage Canada Heavyweight Champion.
Tim has a Bachelor of Arts from Augustana University College and an Elementary Education degree from the University of Alberta. Prior to beginning his MMA career, he was a kindergarten teacher in Rochester, Alberta.
On January 13, 2011, Hague was awarded the rank of purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under black belt instructors Kyle Cardinal and Rodrigo Munduruca.
Hague made his MMA debut against Eric MacDonald at King Of The Cage Canada: Detonator in 2006. Hague came out victorious winning via submission. Hague went on to win his next 3 fights and subsequently won the vacant KOTC Canada heavyweight title over Adriano Bernardo in only his fifth fight. His only loss came to Miodrag Petkovic in a split decision. Before signing with Ultimate Fighting Championship, Tim got a rematch against Petkovic and won by unanimous decision.
Adam Braidwood (born June 1, 1984 in Delta, British Columbia) is a Canadian professional Canadian football defensive end. He has spent the entirety of his so far short professional career with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League, having started with the team in 2006.
While attending Seaquam Secondary School in Delta, Braidwood got his start in major football competition when he attended Washington State University, making their football squad as a true freshman in 2002 (and making the conference all-freshman team). Over the course of his collegiate career, Braidwood recorded 13.5 sacks, 8.5 of which came in his senior year where he started all thirteen games and was among the top ten in the Pacific-10 conference in tackles. Braidwood passed by NFL scouts with little interest or regard, and as a result he was drafted first overall by the Edmonton Eskimos in the 2006 Canadian College Draft. Despite playing college football in the United States, as a Canadian-born player he is considered a non-import under CFL roster rules.
The Netherlands (i/ˈnɛðərləndz/; Dutch: Nederland [ˈneːdərˌlɑnt]) is the main "constituent country" (Dutch: land) of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It is a small, densely populated country located in Western Europe with three island territories in the Caribbean. The European part of the Netherlands borders Germany to the east, Belgium to the south, and the North Sea to the northwest, sharing maritime borders with Belgium, the United Kingdom and Germany. The largest and most important cities in the Netherlands are Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam. Amsterdam is the country's capital, while The Hague holds the Dutch seat of government and parliament. The port of Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe – as large as the next three largest combined – and was the world's largest port between 1962 and 2004. The name Holland is also frequently used to informally refer to the whole of the country of the Netherlands.
"Netherlands" literally means "lower countries", influenced by its low land and flat geography, with only about 50% of its land exceeding one metre above sea level. Most of the areas below sea level are man-made. Since the late 16th century, large areas (polders) have been reclaimed from the sea and lakes, amounting to nearly 17% of the country's current land mass.
Leiden University (abbreviated as LEI, Dutch: Universiteit Leiden), located in the city of Leiden, is the oldest university in the Netherlands. The university was founded in 1575 by William, Prince of Orange, leader of the Dutch Revolt in the Eighty Years' War. The Dutch Royal Family and Leiden University still have a close relationship; Queens Juliana and Beatrix and King Willem-Alexander are all former students.
Leiden University has seven faculties, over 50 departments and enjoys an outstanding international reputation. In 2013 Leiden was the highest ranked university in the Netherlands in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, where it was rated as the 28th best university worldwide and 61st for international reputation. Shanghai Jiao Tong University's 2011 Academic Ranking of World Universities ranked Leiden University as the 29th best university worldwide. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings consistently rank Leiden University as the best university in Continental Europe for Arts and Humanities. The University is associated with ten leaders and Prime Ministers of the Netherlands including the current Prime Minister Mark Rutte, nine foreign leaders, among them the 6th President of the United States John Quincy Adams, a Secretary General of NATO, a President of the International Court of Justice and sixteen recipients of the Nobel Prize (including renowned physicists Albert Einstein and Enrico Fermi). The university came into particular prominence during the Dutch Golden Age, when scholars from around Europe were attracted to the Dutch Republic due to its climate of intellectual tolerance and Leiden's international reputation. During this time Leiden was home to such figures as René Descartes, Rembrandt, Hugo Grotius, Baruch Spinoza and Baron d'Holbach. The university is a member of the Coimbra Group, the Europaeum and the League of European Research Universities.

A windy day at harbor beach, at the seaside resort Scheveningen, Netherlands. This part of the beach, close by the Scheveningen harbour, is very popular amongst surfers and water sport fans. Renovation: The changing climate has its effect on the rising of the Scheveningen sea level. Through the increase of the sea level the safety of the visitors and inhabitants cannot be ensured for the next 50 years. In 2009 an ambitious project "Scheveningen world city at sea" was launched to enlarge the dikes and the boulevard. Not only will the boulevard a lot prettier but also a lot safer. The renovation will also have its positive effect on the image of Scheveningen as a modern and luxurious coastal destination. The project is scheduled to finish by the end of 2013. August 7, 2011
