Partners in Crime is an American television series set in San Francisco, California, that aired on NBC during the 1984-85 television season. NBC cancelled the show after 13 episodes on December 29, 1984.

It was screened overseas as 50/50 to avoid confusion with the 1983 British series of the same name (which was also shown on ITV in the UK).

Overview

The series starred Lynda Carter as Carole Stanwyck and Loni Anderson as Sydney Kovack, two women with little in common except sharing Raymond as an ex-husband. When Raymond winds up murdered, Carole and Sydney set out to find his killer and eventually decide to run the detective agency Raymond has left them. They were assisted in their efforts by Raymond's assistant (Walter Olkewicz), Raymond's mother (Eileen Heckart), and Lt. Vronsky (Leo Rossi).

MS Estonia

MS Estonia, previously Viking Sally (1980–1990), Silja Star (−1991), and Wasa King (−1993), was a cruise ferry built in 1979/80 at the German shipyard Meyer Werft in Papenburg. The ship sank in 1994 in the Baltic Sea in one of the worst maritime disasters of the 20th century. It is the deadliest European shipwreck disaster to have occurred in peacetime, costing 852 lives.

Construction

The ship was originally ordered from Meyer Werft by a Norwegian shipping company led by Parley Augustsen with intended traffic between Norway and Germany. At the last moment, the company withdrew their order and the contract went to Rederi Ab Sally, one of the partners in the Viking Line consortium (SF Line, another partner in Viking Line, had also been interested in the ship).

Originally the ship was conceived as a sister ship to Diana II, built in 1979 by the same shipyard for Rederi AB Slite, the third partner in Viking Line. However, when Sally took over the construction contract, the ship was lengthened from the original length of approximately 137 metres (449 ft) to approximately 155 metres (509 ft) and the superstructure of the ship was largely redesigned.

The Jugendstil building was designed by Finnish architects Armas Lindgren and Wivi Lönn. It was built as a national effort with the leadership of Estonia society in 1913 and was opened to the public on 24 August. At the time, it was the largest building in Tallinn.

The opera house was heavily damaged in the Soviet air raid on Tallinn on 9 March 1944. It was reconstructed in a classical and Stalinist style, and reopened in 1947.

The building has two large auditoriums in two separate wings. It now houses the Estonian National Opera and the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. A chamber hall was opened in 2006.

In European elections, Estonia is a constituency of the European Parliament, currently represented by six MEPs. It covers the member state of Estonia. The elections uses the D'Hondt method with an open list.

2004

The 2004 European election was the sixth election to the European Parliament. However, as Estonia had only joined the European Union earlier that month, it was the first election European election held in that state. The election took place on June 13.

The biggest winner was the Social Democratic Party. The governing Res Publica Party and People's Union polled poorly. The voter turnout in Estonia was one of the lowest of all member countries at only 26.8%. A similar trend was visible in most of the new member states that joined the EU in 2004.
