New Mexico (Spanish: Nuevo México [ˈnweβo ˈmexiko]; Navajo: Yootó Hahoodzo [jo:tó haho:dzo]) is a state located in the southwestern region of the United States. It was admitted to the union as the 47th state on January 6, 1912. It is usually considered one of the Mountain States. New Mexico is the fifth-most extensive, the 36th-most populous, and the sixth-least densely populated of the 50 United States.
Inhabited by indigenous peoples of the Americas for many centuries before European exploration, New Mexico was subsequently part of the Imperial Spanish viceroyalty of New Spain. Later, it was part of Mexico before becoming a U.S. territory and eventually a U.S. state. Among U.S. states, New Mexico has the highest percentage of Hispanics, including descendants of Spanish colonists who have lived in the area for more than 400 years. It also has the second-highest percentage of Native Americans after Alaska, and the fourth-highest total number of Native Americans after California, Oklahoma, and Arizona. The nations in the state consist of mostly Navajo, Pueblo, and Apache peoples. As a result, the demographics and culture of the state are unique for their strong Hispanic and Native American influences, both of which are reflected in the state flag. The scarlet and gold colors of the New Mexico flag are taken from the royal standards of Spain, along with the ancient sun symbol of the Zia, a Pueblo-related tribe.

Looking back at the headlines of 2009 in New Mexico it becomes clear that the state may be getting attention outside of the Southwest for all the wrong reasons.
New details are emerging of the gruesome death of a little girl in New Mexico. Police are now calling the murder one of the worst cases they have ever seen. One America's Carl Hensley details what led to the 10-year-old's death, and who is responsible.

According to MIT…Mid-size companies, that’s businesses with 10 to 99 employees… generate 35% of jobs nationally. And…these companies are better at creating middle class jobs in high-skilled areas. But as Simon Thompson reports…New Mexico economic initiatives are NOT focused on supporting the growth of these companies. New Mexico has been one of the states slowest to bounce back from the recession….. That could be because the state’s primary approach to economic growth has been using incentives and tax exemptions to lure big business. NMSU economist Doctor Chris Erickson says the state is moving in the wrong direction. “Economic development is an ocean liner and you are steering the ocean liner and right now Las Cruces and New Mexico is generally I think is steering towards the rocks...

The US carmaker says abandoning a planned factory in Mexico that he criticised cost it $200 million (187 million euros). But it will save $500 million overall by consolidating some production it had planned there to an existing plant in Mexico. Ford executives said the Mexico decision was driven by less demand and weak pricing for small cars, but they had been encourage… READ MORE : http://www.euronews.com/2017/01/26/ford-profit-down-from-mexico-plant-hit euronews business brings you latest updates from the world of finance and economy, in-depth analysis, interviews, infographics and more Subscribe for daily dose of business news: http://bit.ly/1pcHCzj Made by ...

Marco Polo Gutierrez, aka Siete Catorce, is a rare artist that can truly claim to be doing something unique. His fusion of Mexican traditional rhythms and contemporary dance tropes is urgent and exciting, and his releases on NAAFI, Enchufada and Cocobass are way too underrated. We met up with Gutierrez at this year’s MUTEK Montreal, where he managed to perform a number of sets, each showcasing his innovative style and keeping the dancefloor moving. For his live performance, he avoids noodling and improvisation in favor of playing new material and constructing a solid narrative – it’s a decision that pays off. — Check out our full video catalog: http://www.factmag.com/tv/ Subscribe to FACT TV on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/Factmagazine Videos, daily editorial and more: http://www.f...

New Mexico health agency: Flu activity widespread in state - Source: http://krqe.com/2017/03/02/new-mexico-health-agency-flu-activity-widespread-in-state/
The New Mexico Department of Health said this week that two women were found to have plague, bringing the total number of people this year in the state known to have the disease to three. All three patients — a 63-year-old man and two women, ages 52 and 62 — were treated at hospitals in the Santa Fe area and released after a few days. Health officials in New Mexico have more experience with plague than many might expect: Every year for the last few years, a handful of people in New Mexico have come down with plague. One person has died. While the word “plague” may conjure images of medieval cities laid to waste by the Black Death, the disease is still a part of the modern world. It is much less common than it once was, but it is no less serious. What Is Plague? Plague is caused by the ...

Once upon a time in New Mexico, a handful of dudes in a giant van drove and flew thousands of miles in search of the perfect rail. With Jeff Z as the trusty tour guide, they discovered plenty of setups in a little sleepy town found in the state’s northern mountains. Justin Simpson, Gary Young, Sean Sexton and George Boyd were all aboard for the mission. Sean had the misfortune of piercing a giant hole in his knee within what was probably only 15 minutes of getting out of the van so he’s a little MIA in this video. Fortunately, our TM and all around shredder Jim Bauer was on hand to score some extra clips and annihilate the longest rail in sight. This is our latest ODSY Vision. Enjoy. https://www.expedia.com/Mexico-City.d178285.Destination-Travel-Guides Mexico City is one of the financial powerhouses and cultural capitals of Latin America; it’s also a city of color. Mexico City’s colors run deepest in the main square, the Zócalo, once the epicenter of the Mexican Civilization. Today, this area is presided over by a temple of a different kind, The Metropolitan Cathedral. Throughout the Centro Histórico district, over 1500 heritage buildings vie for your attention. The streets of this district overflow with museums and galleries. For a window into the life and color of yesteryear, visit the fabulous Museo Franz Mayer. For a change of color, head to Chapultepec Park, one of the largest urban parks in the world. The park is home to cultural institutions such as the ...

On the tiny island of Holbox, a stone's throw from the Mexico mainland, lives a legendary angler named Sandflea. People from all over the world travel here to fish with him. One such gringo is Mike Dawes, who stumbled into Sandflea's welcoming home years ago and quickly became family. On land, Sandflea's a dad, a grandfather, the unofficial mayor, a teacher, and the main source of dinner for his neighbors and friends. On the water, he's as schooled as they come when it comes to permit and tarpon. But a childhood bout of Scarlet fever weakened Sandflea's heart and has led him to multiple surgeries. His willingness to share with all of us makes it all the more ironic . . . the guy with the biggest heart needs a new one. This is the story of the unlikely friendship between two anglers and the...
On September 11th 2015 I took the Texas Eagle Amtrak train from LA to Austin. The train passes through the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, taking nearly 33 hours to complete this leg of the journey, before continuing on up to Chicago. This short film comprises a number of clips I took from the train window, mostly in Arizona and Texas. I highly recommended seeing America this way. Though it's not the most comfortable way to travel you'll see things and meet people you rarely would travelling by car or plane. Music is 'Exit Does Not Exist' by Sun Kil Moon, taken from his album of Modest Mouse covers. A record I was listening to a lot at the time. Shot on my iPhone 6 using the Hyperlapse app (for stabilisation), edited in Premiere Pro. Full details of the train rou...
November 9, 2012 www.LifeofBrennan.com There are moments in life when you just need to be bold and follow your heart. For me it came just before the end of my sophomore year of college. I realized I was on a path where I’d most likely graduate, get a job, start a family, and work until retirement, and where many people may aspire to have all this, I knew I needed something different. With the help of a cousin I was able to get connected with an orphanage in Guatemala where I could volunteer. So I took a semester off and flew to Central America to begin what would be a life changing experience. I once heard that life is 10 percent of what happens to us and 90 percent of how we react to it, and by being immersed in that culture and living with those children I learned this lesson first...

New Mexico's high desert is a captivating land of hallowed mountains, red rock canyons and vast, sere plateaus. In Remembered Earth, filmmaker John Grabowska and Indian author N. Scott Momaday present a vision of hope for humankind's relationship to the natural world by interpreting the myth, beauty and power of a scarred but sacred landscape of the American West. Can we come to see land itself as a community to which we belong? Narrated by N. Scott Momaday and Irene Bedard, Music by Todd Boekelheide.
Check out my latest film The Quiet City: Winter in Paris. https://vimeo.com/62959319 I brought my new Blackmagic Cinema Camera with me on a recent trip with my wife to the Bahia de Banderas area of Mexico. We stayed in Mismaloya, about 20km south of Puerto Vallarta. If I had it my way, the camera would have been glued to my hands for the entire trip, but considering it's not water-proof, I had to leave it at the hotel quite a bit. We did a day trip north of Puerto Vallarta and explored towns, beaches, and did a small jungle hike. In Valle De Banderas, they were celebrating their town's anniversary, or at least I think that's what a banner said. At any rate there were many people out celebrating. I love shooting with the BMCC! Little issues aside, it is an amazing camera! I love how it m...

We are proud to share a new song/video titled "Mexico Lindo y Querido," that unites musicians across Mexico and demonstrates the beauty of this great country. No matter how many things in this life may divide us, they are never as strong as the things that bring us together. This is the power of music.
This is, what we believe to be, the first wedding shot entirely on 35mm adapters. We chose the brevis and had a crew of 3 shooting the day, with a fourth shooting behind the scenes. We had a wide assortment of gear with some of the highlights being the new Cinevate follow focus, the new Cinevate cage (for handheld work), a prototype of the soon to be released slider, and many lenses. We used a full EOS setup with the 24 1.4, 50 1.4, and 70-200 being the most common as well as some Zeiss primes including a 28 f2, 50 1.4, and 100 f2 macro. On the steadicam we used both the 50 and 28 from Zeiss. The ceremony was shot with the steadicam and two 70-200s. The reception was light using a pair of pro lights (easy to pack) and some diffusion. All other lighting was just using what was availab...

Fresh Tracks with Randy Newberg is in New Mexico with Leupold's Tim Lesser, VP of Product Development. This is the exact episode as aired on Sportsman Channel; Season 5, Episode 3. In this hunt, they are hunting a Wilderness Area burn where elk are aplenty. The challenge comes in the difficult terrain and the high winds that can persist at 10,000'. Randy takes the production risk to let Tim and cameraman, Tyler Johnerson, go on a stalk for a bull while Randy stays across the canyon to keep an eye for the elk sneaking out the bottom. The bull is bedded and Tyler rolls rocks to get this bull up and exposed for a shot. The end result is a great public land bull for Tim. It took two days to retrieve the bull, but the memories and meat are worth every bit of it. Thanks for watching. *...

BNSF Coal Trains in Arizona and New Mexico. Along the Transcon.
This is a long, very detailed film about the struggles of Public Land Hunts in New Mexico for Elk. By far one of the greatest hunts I have ever been on and I didn't even fill my tag. Good Friends, Beautiful Country, and just an overall wonderful experience. I highly encourage any hunter to get out there and give it 110%... You'll love every minute of this emotional roller coaster of a hunt!!!!
New Mexico down on Central Avenue
Where the old highway goes running through
And all that I can do ,all that I can do
Is think of you
With someone new
I got a job waiting tables in the middle of the night
See the sunrise in my rear view mirror
Wake up to see the last of its light
But I don't mind, no I don't mind
Because that hot desert sun beating down on this side
of town
Well it ain't a pretty sight
A few old men and some young drunks they'll try to make
a pass
But I just have to look them straight in the eye
And I say please don't even ask
'Cause there's no one who, there's no one who
Can make my tired old life
Seem new and unused
I guess there's always gotta be someone out on the
highway
Laying down all that tar
And there's always gotta be someone serving up the
drinks
Down at the bar
But I don't want to be slaving my life away
If it's just to pay for all the things I never knew
quite how to say
Dirty old blackbird landed on my window sill
I didn't want him to leave so I sat there watching him
perfectly still
Until he finally flew, and when he finally flew
I asked him to cut a hole in the morning sky
