Fire services sped to the scene of a Waikato house fire in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Five appliances, of which two were tankers for water, arrived at 1am to find the house, near Paeroa, well involved.

The fire was contained by 1.27am, Northern Fire Communications shift manager Carren Larking said.

No one was at the State Highway 26 property at the time, Larking said.

A fire investigator is looking into the cause of the blaze, she said.
